Today we celebrated the festival of Sankranti, also called Pongal. Although many people know this as the festival of kites or harvest, we have a lot of other fun filled activities. This exhibition of toys is called ‘Bommala Koluvu’ which means Court of Toys. The toys are made of clay and are then painted on. Usually it follows a theme, and the toys aren’t just that, they tell a story (predominantly from the Hindu mythology).
We put up a display like this inside the house, a beautiful rangoli outside the house and invite people to see the Koluvu ☺️ and the people who visit usually get a toy as a gift 😄
My mom-to-be @lalitakapilavai
collects toys specially for this display and she’s amazing at organising and coming up with concepts and ideas. I think she did a fabulous job.
Why I love this? Firstly, handicrafts. (The toys or kites) We really need to support them. Secondly, the sheer joy of working with your family to put up this display. And third, so much creativity!
Sankranti wishes to you all ☺️
