Inspiring weekend at the Canfitpro World Expo conference in Toronto!! Honored to have had the opportunity to be on a small panel at the closing ceremonies with Becky and Stephen sharing our thoughts on fitness and being of service to others in front of our peers. Thank you to Rosa, Mo and the staff at Canfitpro for this opportunity, I am so grateful. Making it to the Top 5 Fitness Instructor 2018 was such highlight in my life. 💕 I took in some Barre and Ryde workshops, as well as did a Tae Bo class with the one and only Billy Blanks! He was one of my very first fitness inspirations as I used to choreograph my own kick classes in the early 2000's! I also met Derek Hough and Karl Wolf!! I feel so grateful to be surrounded by so many amazing people in the fitness Industry who I get to learn from. I was also a part of the Strong by Zumba team which I am fortunate to call my friends. You, me, everyone of us tell ourselves lies about things all the time, and we are "consciously rationalizing" about the choices we make . And what this has to do with self-discipline is; when people "decide" not to do something they should be doing, it's an action in itself and the reason why they take the easy way out is because they tell themselves self-deceiving lies, either consciously in that moment, or have the habit to do it so by "lean towards" their non-action habits . It ruins their progress, it ruins their following through on the plan . Follow through on the difficult choice - to get the reward later! That's the name of the game. . I’ve always considered becoming a personal trainer/coach, but the longer I had been out of an academic setting, the harder it was for me to consider going back to school. I did a lot of research of the different kinds of programs out there, and I finally decided NPTI was the best fit for me. There’s a lecture/classroom portion and then also the gym/hands-on time as well, so I know by the time I graduate, I’ll feel like a well rounded, prepared trainer. Having the network of other classmates that come from so many different fitness backgrounds really is an awesome aspect as well. I’m not just reading a text book and taking a test; my instructors have the education and experience to back up what their teaching. . . What are your goals within the fitness industry? My passion is distance running. Finding a good running coach is extremely hard, and most are only online (not personable). Most of these coaches or training programs distance runners use to train for races don’t incorporate cross training into the mix, which is extremely important. I eventually want to coach runners who have big goals like qualifying for the Boston Marathon or the Olympic trials. . . What has impressed you the most about the NationalPTI program? I’m learning everything I could possibly learn about the field, from experienced instructors. They make it easy to have a life as well. Going back to school after having graduated college 11 years ago, was nerve wracking, scary, and I didn’t know what to expect. At NPTI, they work around you’re schedule. I’m still able to work full time, train for my races full time, and not have it interfere with my studies. . . What advice would you give incoming students? Have fun. Utilize your instructors, your fellow classmates, and the material your given to study with, and you’ll surely succeed. After having started this program, I look forward to going to class. “Remember when you wanted what you currently have.” - @selfhelplesspodcast shared this quote on their ‘anxiety’ episode and it hit me right in the feels. Because living in China has never totally been sunshine and rainbows... until I spent my sweaty metro ride this morning realizing all the amazing things that have happened to me since coming here. I remember wanting to create a community of people who wanted to change the way they view health and fitness (✔️) I remember wanted to be a part of something bigger in terms of sharing what I’ve learned with others (now I’m a part of a fitness startup where I get to create workouts and content for their gyms all over this city, so ✔️✔️), I remember whating to be a brand ambassador for #lululemon and guess what, I checked that off too. (After grinding hard for two solid years.) I remember wanting to make amazing real life connections with people who I could learn from and experience life with (✔️✔️✔️✔️), and I remember wanting to hit a few solid pull ups, something I couldn’t do before I got here and if you saw my recent insta story, you saw me ✔️ that off too (continual work in progress.) There are countless other “dang, that happened!” moments that hit me this morning, and it felt good to not just see the obstacles ahead but see all the progress from the past. **THE POINT IS: It’s hard work. This stuff doesn’t blossom over night. But looking back, I am taking stock of all the freaking AWESOME things that have come true that I could only have dreamed of when I was playing it small. Afraid of failure. Afraid of looking dumb. Afraid of saying the wrong thing. Afraid of not knowing enough or coming off like I knew too much. Afraid of appearing weak or not fit enough. Afraid of not being someone’s cup of tea. Afraid of basically everything. Start playing it big. Start taking risks, and take breaks to revel in where you’ve come from. It’ll crack you wide open cause change is always happening — taking time to reflect on it is something you have the choice to do. #allthefeels #gratitudealways
