MASS GAINER PROTEIN SHAKE By @smurray_32 ➖ So let’s address the sheer hate I got on yesterday’s post. Let’s face it, for every food, there’s always going to be someone saying it’s bad for you and though the words “clean” & “dirty” are a load of bull💩 due to having no clear objective definition 🤦🏻‍♂️, when speaking about “dirty carbs” one usually refers to those high in sugar which raise blood glucose levels thus leading to more fat gain vs “clean”, lower sugar alternatives ➖ As mentioned previously, yes, refined, “dirty” carbs will significantly spike blood glucose but only when eaten in ISOLATION & via the addition of fat, fibre and/or protein (like a standard mixed meal) the glycaemic response is diminished (Moghaddam et.al 2006, Cui et.al 1999). These effects also seen for if a food is taken before or after the consumption of a “refined” carb (Sugiyama et.al 2003) ➖ Secondly👉🏼 Nutrients don’t make you fat, you overconsuming nutrients makes you fat and MANY studies show that, when calories are controlled to create an isocaloric deficit, food QUALITY does not impact fat loss (Saris et.al 2000, Gatenby et.al 1997, West & de Looy 2001) ➖ HOWEVER👉🏼 Hopefully you’re not an idiot and know that macro & micro profiles are still a vital component to overall HEALTH & prevention of DISEASE (Shenkin 2006) and it’s true that oreos & reeses won’t contain the same micro and/or macro profile as the serious mass but as long as the majority of your calories come from whole nutrient dense foods, there’s no evidence to show that you can’t still meet your micronutrient needs to be HEALTHY while consuming SOME “empty calories” like junk (Livingstone & Rennie 2009, Rennie & Livingstone 2007). Research has even shown that most people would have to eat ~20% of their total kcals from pure table sugar before it becomes impossible to meet their micro needs (Gibson 2006, Gibson & Boyd 2009) so although you shouldn’t eat 27 cookies, 1-2 here & there is well within your “allowance” while still being “healthy” ➖ Furthermore, again before labelling a food as “bad” or “good” you need context of that food within your diet as a WHOLE!

KNOW - DEADLIFTS - Deadlifts blow every other exercise out of the water in terms of total body effectiveness, HANDS DOWN!! - For starters, deadlifts work more muscles simultaneously than any other movement (yes, including squats). The deadlift essentially forces the whole body to grow. - IT’S NOT JUST A LOWER BODY MOVEMENT! - Since dead’s recruit the most muscles to perform they help build the most muscle which in turn will help you burn the most body fat. - Deadlifts are also tops in terms of strengthening the core. When deadlifting you hit all the surrounding and supporting muscles of the waist, backside, hips and, of course, lower back. Want that sexy core? Deadlift more! - Another misconception is that deadlifts are a gateway to snapping your back in half. It’s actually the opposite, when performed correctly, deadlifts PREVENT injuries by strengthening the muscles around critical tendons and ligaments. - If you can’t deadlift for some reason or you are struggling with proper form, try doing a hex bar deadlift. It’s easier in terms of set up and you don’t have to go so low. A second option is putting plates under the plates on the bar shortening the distance you have to lift the weight. This will decrease the range of motion making it a bit easier to maintain proper form through the lift. - If you haven’t done so already, make sure deadlifts are a part of your current strength training routine.
