Week 1 of taking back my life and happiness is in the books! Hair did not stand a chance today 🙅🏼‍♀️ . . I gotta be honest.. when I first decided to re commit to this program, I SWORE that I was going to skip one of the cardio workouts because I hate it so much and it’s hard. The ONLY reason I did it and am going to do every single workout of this program is because of the women in my bootcamp going through it with me. . . These groups are what got me started on a new lifestyle and helped me stick with it, and 3.5 years later they’re still working 🙏🏼 . . It was hard today, I struggled to control my breathing, I sweated like crazy.. but I didn’t quit on myself and that’s how I’m gonna keep growing and making positive life changes! . . These women who have motivated and kept me going these past 5 weeks! I decided to compete 4 months ago but didn’t actually start prepping until 5 weeks ago. During these 5 weeks I have lost 9 lbs. I flip flopped so much during this prep trying to figure out what works for my body. These women have been my light! From day one @marnicmit has been the most positive and motivational person I’ve ever come across. She’s alway so happy and is so knowledgeable. @ohanabella is my moral compass. She motivates me by being the greatest example. Day 12 of 21 - Cardio 1. I did not want to get up this morning!! It’s been a rough week trying to get up and I’m looking forward to sleeping-in tomorrow! I know they say you should keep the same schedule, but I don’t care, I’m happy to get a couple extra hours of sleep! 2. ▪️I’m back bishes!!▪️ - What an insane last three days! I spent the last three days straight driving from Toronto back home to Vancouver - 3 days, 5 provinces, 4500+ kms, 45 hours of driving but what an incredible adventure! It was so cool to drive though Canada and I am so blessed to have been able to have such an incredible experience. If you followed my insta stories you know it was quite the adventure 😂 - As sad as it was to leave Toronto, Vancouver has always and will always be my home, as soon as I drove over the bridge to north van it just felt like home again and gots me some warm fuzzy feelings that just put a huge smile on my face - Now time to start fresh from the bottom up, once again, for probably the 5th time in the last 2 years. Nothing wrong with starting over, some of the most beautiful things come from new beginnings and hitting rock bottom - Rough times are just the universes way of saying you need to grow because something amazing is coming your way and you needed to gain more experiences before the universe can bless you with greatness

Before activity: drink plenty with meals, about 16oz 2 hours before activity. Your urine should have a light color but not clear. Right before activity drink 8-16 oz. ~ Ways to gauge fluid needs, record body weight before and after exercise. Sometimes we need to take a moment to just be. . We've become a culture of distraction, constantly looking for ways to avoid the uncomfortable emotions that we feel. Think about it - the last time that you ever felt anxious, sad, stressed out, bored, lonely, or depressed, you probably just turned on the television, grabbed some kit-kats 🍫, or maybe that wine bottle 🍾 that's been anxiously awaiting you to get home, or maybe you just picked up your phone to scroll through Instagram. . Does this sound about right?! We're all guilty of this, because distraction is a form of escapism, and escapism means that you'll never truly come to terms with your emotions by engaging in habitual behaviors. You lose the ability to really reflect, accept, and resolve. . Next time you find yourself seeking distraction from the uncomfortable emotions that you may be feeling, just stop yourself. Allow yourself to feel that emotion wholeheartedly. Go for a walk, take several deep breaths to come back to yourself, talk to someone, find a healthy substitute for your behaviors. . Yes, it's going to feel uncomfortable. It's supposed to, because that's where the real work comes in. I usually do 25 reps of each exercise depending on how much petrol I have left in the tank 😰 🔥🔥🔥 - IF YOU CAN DO MORE.... Five things about me: 1. I grew up on a farm in a small town called Winchester in rural Ontario/Canada. Growing up, I couldn’t wait to leave haha…the week after I finished high school I moved by myself to North Carolina and then Arizona for a year. Now though, I enjoy going back to Winchester to visit (as you can see here haha!). The peacefulness and simplicity is such a good way to reset and recharge. 2. I have three siblings – my two sisters are twins and only a year older than me. They’re also even taller than I am, and I’m 5’9! And my brother is another 5 inches taller than that! 3. My background is Dutch and Scottish – which explains the height and hypothetically, the red hair. 4. I was a competitive Highland Dancer for more than 10 years … as in kilts and bagpipes and lots of jumping! That inspired my love for dance, and now I try to learn as many new styles as possible whenever I get the opportunity. 5. Day 33/365 Fitspiration DITCH YOUR SCALE!!!!! You fitness journey should not be tied to a number. It becomes so easy to get wrapped up on that number on the scale. Years years years ago when I owned a scale I would hop on it multiple times a day to see how my number changed, then I would change my eating intake depending what the number showed me...sound familiar. It's a vicious cycle, STOP IT!!! And ultimately what is that number showing/telling you?!? Instead use non-scale ways to help you through. Do your clothes fit differently? Do you feel stronger? Do you have more energy? Can you do things your previously couldnt? Lateral Raise: The dumbbell lateral raise is performed from a standing or seated position. Hold a dumbbell in each hand with your arms straight at your sides. Turn palms to face your body. If standing, position your feet hip-distance apart. If seated, keep your back straight and your feet flat on the floor. Contract your stomach by pulling your navel toward your spine to provide core stability. Keep a slight bend in your elbow as you exhale and raise the dumbbells out to the sides. Lift until your arms are parallel with the floor. Inhale and slowly return to the starting position. As your strength progresses, your range of motion also improves. Change your starting position and lean slightly forward from the waist. Position your hands in front of your legs and begin with your palms facing each other. . . ⚫Deltoids: The prime movers in dumbbell lateral raises are your shoulders, or the deltoids. The shoulder muscles have three heads: anterior, medial and posterior. The anterior and medial head of the deltoid rest along the front and sides of your shoulders and are activated when you raise your arms. The posterior head of the deltoid has a greater contraction when you bend forward from the hips. . . . ⚫Core: Your abdominal muscles contract to support your posture during the lateral raises. When you pull-in your navel, your transverse abdominis contracts. Your rectus abdominis, located along the front of your abdomen, tightens to support your posture. The muscles along your spine, erector spinae, also engage to provide support as you extend your weighted arms to the sides. . . . ⚫Stabilizers: The muscles in your upper back, trapezius, works to stabilize your shoulder blade during the lateral raises. Your shoulder joint position is protected by the deep rotator cuff muscles which attach to your shoulder blade. With all the focus on the shoulder, do not overlook the muscles that allow you to hold onto the dumbbells including your biceps, the tops of your upper arms, and the wrist extensor muscles in your forearms.

I opened up my wallet one day, and just prior to opening it I PRAYED for a few dollars to be tucked away in there somewhere. My bank account was, again, in the negatives and I didn't have any of my own groceries in the house I was living in. . When I opened my wallet and my eyes were closed so tight, slowly unzipping the zipper, slowly opening my eyes.. and in my wallet.. was no money. . I got in my car and drove to the grocery store, sobbing and HOPING that my card would swipe 🙏🏼 and my account would just go further into the negatives so I could eat something. I got to the store, in my basket I put bananas, bread, peanut butter, and chicken nuggets figuring "this should last me for a couple weeks." . I got up to the register, and across the screen read "declined." . Of course I lied and said something to justify why my card would be declining.. and remembered I had my check book in my purse which I had never used except for rent so just assumed it would go through and again, thinking my bank account would just go further into the negatives. . To my surprise the cashier asked to see my ID and had me write down my address and bank info on a slip of paper. He ran it through the system and across the screen read "declined." . "hmm.. that's so weird!" I quickly said, "I better go to the bank to see what's going on because it was just working at the gas station." . Of course that wasn't actually the case. . . This business has changed my life in many ways, one being the ability to confidently go into the grocery store and know that my groceries will be paid for for me and my family to eat. How I killed my craving for take out and binge eating last night!!! Today is Day 6 of my journey to a healthier me. But the struggle is real. Yesterday at work I told myself all day when I got home I was putting on my comfy clothes, binge watching Netflix and ordering poutine . Then I was life F off Kelly. You're on day 5. Get it together. So I made a deal with myself Ok...go for a run THENNN you can do that. After the run I had more energy and the being lazy faded. The poutine wasnt as appealing either. So then I said Ok have your nutrition shake and then see how you feel if you still want that poutine then go for it! And.....guess what my craving was gone!!!! Half way through my weekend. Thank you Jesus because eating crap on the weekends is my thing . But it's a habit . And it ain't happening....NOT this weekend.
