Let's first make a small premise, today we talk about Bodybuilding, not only seen as a discipline, but in the most general sense: muscle building. If I use a machine to develop the chest or do push ups always to grow the chest, my goal is always that, to maximize muscle growth.
Now let's go step by step
1) What it is:Known more generically as PROPRIOCEMENT, it is the ability to recruit a certain muscular district, determined muscle or part of it. In simple words it is UNDERSTAND what we are doing and how.Returning to the example of the chest, if I decide to push with dumbbells or push ups, I have to UNDERSTAND, if I'm generating tension in that area and how I'm generating it. To be clear, if I take the dumbbels and start working without understanding what I'm doing, we'll probably find ourselves at the end of the series saying "I do not feel anything", because we may have worked with greater emphasis on the shoulders rather than on the chest, or we will have done dirty repetitions , creating useless work. Obviously this also applies to the folding on the arms. So there is a difference between doing and DOING GOOD.
2) Is it really useful?
In my opinion it is fundamental in terms of muscle building (and not), both to maximize the results, understanding which muscle / muscle group to use and in what order or in what angle. Let's not forget that a well-executed exercise will drastically reduce the risk of injury!
3) Only applies to BBuilding?Absolutely not, proprioception is fundamental in any athletic gesture, making it more effective, safer and less expensive in terms of energy, but we will discuss this in the next article.
Is the perfect example of how the mind-muscle connection works.
