We were so happy to see this sweet boy yesterday.
On Friday, we went in hopes of rescuing a cat we had been told was "fading fast" and likely going to die. Our hearts sank when we saw him and we knew; we weren't leaving without him. He was so thin, hardly more than his skeletal frame, with a severe upper respiratory infection, an injured tail, and bleeding mouth. He was covered in a layer of flea dirt and fleas and as we later discovered, anemic and FIV+. In spite of his outward condition, he still had life left in him. We just hoped that we weren't too late; that he hadn't given up.
Oftentimes in rescue, you face hurdles that seem insurmountable and all you can do is try. For those who have suffered, you hope with all you have that they will live to know a life far better than the one they have known. With the help of our amazing supporters, we were able to give that chance to this boy and we can't thank you enough. He is not out of the woods, as we are waiting to see if his body is capable of regenerating red blood cells on its own, but he is comfortable and happy, quite enthusiastic for his food, and in the loving care of the wonderful staff at Perry Vet. From the wounds near his neck and the area he lived, we suspect that he is lucky to have escaped from a fox or coyote.
Please keep our sweet boy in your thoughts and if you are able to contribute to his ongoing veterinary care or share his plea for help, we would be so grateful. Donations can be made online at www.paypal.me/hearthsidecats or by mail to P.O. Box 282, Geneseo NY, 14454. Thank you for every dollar donated to help give this boy a fighting chance.
He is also still in need of a name! We received many wonderful suggestions and have included five in the post. Some names we loved, like Henry and Lucky, but currently have cats in our care with the same name. Please comment with your favorite below!
