Happy 50th birthday to one, if not T H E icon of commercial aviation. 🇺🇸 The Boeing 747. When the first Boeing 747-100 entered service on January 22, 1970 for PanAm, passenger aviation was taken to the next level - Due to the tremendous increase in seats that an airline could now offer, fares for air travel sunk significantly, enabling billions of passengers to see places all over the globe. 🌎 Just imagine this: the Jumbojet offered 150% of the space that the predecessor 707, one of the largest passenger aeroplanes before the queen of the skies was born, could offer. Such a huge bump in capacity was never achieved again. ✈️ Not even by the behemoth A380, that re-claimed the throne of the largest passenger aircraft after 37 years. That does not matter. For me, and many other avgeeks, the Boeing 747 will always be the most elegant wide-body ever! 💁🏽♂️ A true legend and milestone in aviation. Hope to enjoy her beauty for the next 50 years to come! 🚀 .
