Flower Tips... Guard petals!
There's always a debate between florists as to whether we remove the guard petals on roses or not!
Guard petals are thick outer petals that are designed to protect the flower while it's growing, sometimes these guard petals can look discoloured or wilted which is why some people like to remove them.
In our experience we find that removing too many outer petals can make the rose open quicker than normal, it can also distort the shape of the rose. We also like the natural beauty of them, with their darker shades and ruffled texture.
Here at Reids, we generally leave the guard petals on for the above reasons (unless they are particularly unsightly ones). What is your preference?🌹 #Reidsflorists #Flowertips
