provokes today’s post. Do you carry a book everywhere you go?
I’ve had a complicated relationship with this trend, when I was younger I’d have no inhibitions in carrying my books around and I would read anywhere and everywhere if the book I was reading couldn’t be put down. However, for a few years in between I would feel too conscious to take my books out; Not only because it felt slightly pretentious to me at the time but also because the things we read reflect our very personal, intimate choices (something I also discussed with Julia at @juliabrary
about earlier today). I therefore often feel a little more exposed than I would want to when I’m reading in public. But, the past year I have been much more comfortable reading outdoors. Earlier this year I took a book on the Delhi metro and read it without a cover/ sleeve for the first time in a long time I believe.
Have you ever felt conscious of reading in public? What are some of the bizarre-st places you have carried a book to?
