with some minor substitutions due to food allergies. Thank you, Roy's Orlando, for checking with me about my food choices about cross contamination & such. Food was delicious.
I had my half marathon this morning and my children had PBJ for breakfast AND lunch with their father at the helm 🤦♀️ (organic? Whole wheat? That makes it better?). We’re headed to a pizza party with four other families (11 kids 3 and under) this evening, which means my anxiety will be through the roof about Henry grabbing something he’s allergic to. These Coleman brand organic chicken meatballs from @costco
are my favorite thing to keep on hand for these types of events. Throw them in the crock pot on high for two hours to defrost, with some marinara, add some spinach leaves, and throw the whole thing in a Tupperware with whole wheat pasta. Bring own booster seat to keep him restrained. And say a quick 🙏
Another day full of soccer games calls for snacks for.....the day! 🤣😂 @madegoodfoods

bars!! The chocolate marshmallow is our favorite! And of course everyone know we love @mysuperfoods
It does hurt to be the only kid not having a treat or not able to go to the ice cream playdate... I wish there was a cure. I wish I could take it on for my child and he can live life like a kid! We are so excited for the food allergy walk tomorrow. Come if you can, donate if you can! #kfa #foodallergymom #foodallergiessuck #findacure
Our poor boy. We have been in quite a food journey with him since the beginning. Started with raw (not a good go~yes tried it all), went vegan which cleared up most issues instantly and our vet was shocked at how much better he looked...then that all went to hell and we switched to a high end limited diet food and this happened. Exasperated we went to the vet again and he is what she called an “allergy guy” so he’s on hypoallergenic food & meds for the next 6-8 weeks. He’s already improved greatly in just two days!! Here’s hoping it cures all his issues!#baconpei #foodallergiessuck #milliondollardog

No, it’s not an early Easter post. Just a story involving a bunny🤣🐰.....
The other night I went to run an errand. As I left my house, my dog came outside and instead of sprinting to the car like she usually does she chased a bunny around our neighborhood and into the woods. She loved it - I obviously did not because we live in an area with coyotes and she was out of my sight.
My first thought was "these bunnies are driving me crazy lately. All Cocoa does is bark and chase them!" and then I stopped myself. I was justifying getting rid of cuddly bunnies instead of taking responsibility over my own action of letting my dog out without a leash! am trying to get rid of the neighborhood bunnies?!? This ties into life with food allergies because all too often people look to "get rid of the allergens." [I obviously understand that this is necessary in some situations - especially with airborne allergies...but hear me out!] Living with multiple life threatening food allergens including ones that are literally in every environment, including school classrooms and cafeterias. I felt compelled at the beginning of our journey to really limit what was around and then one day I had an epiphany. What if I taught my daughter and our close family/friends how to navigate the environment while allergens are present? What if I focused on self awareness rather than the environment itself?
At the end of the day, we can only control ourselves and our actions. What if we knew our emergency plan like the back of our hand and only focused on controlling our own management of the multiple allergens?
I have to say this ideal has been the greatest defense against food allergy emergencies in our life. We have had quite the learning curve but with many lessons! My focus is not excluding allergens but teaching people how to manage them if they are eating with or around my daughter (despite her anaphylactic reactions to dairy and egg). A good quality of life is key for us.

Who's ready for Halloween? 🙋♀️ I know I am! I'm also ready to spread awareness about food allergies. Every year I paint a pumpkin teal to let other kids know who suffer from food allergies, that we offer non food items for trick or treating. I am allergic to ALL nuts so trick or treating can sometimes be such a bummer. But by spreading awareness hopefully we can have more people who give out alternatives. You can head over to @foodallergy
or Google the teal pumpkin project for more information. Thank you for listening to me, hope you all have a good day. #foodallergies #tealpumpkinproject #foodallergiessuck #teallove #instakids #kidsofinsta #allergyawareness
“Be strong, you never know who you will inspire”
This morning I was tagged in a post that truly made my day! When I post about my fitness journey, I often think people get annoyed by my posts and don’t find them inspiring or helpful. So much so that I mainly post my daily fitness stuff on my instastories - are you following me there? 😘😘 But that post was a true reminder that they are helpful, they are inspiring to so many.
And I bet, even to the ones that don’t want to admit it 😘
I don’t post to show off, I promise you that. I post to show that if I can do it, you can to! I’m no different. I struggle everyday. The beginning was sooooooo rough. And it takes TIME for self discipline. And even so, I don’t always want to press play. I don’t jump for joy to workout 😂. I debate napping instead. I do feel blessed that I *get* to workout and move my body and get it stronger. I press play when opportunity arises. My kids may or may not be awake. My kids may or may not be annoying through it 🤷🏻♀️. But I show them what it takes. And that exercise is s part of life. It’s a how we stay healthy. It’s something we do. Its not easy, but every day counts. Pure effort goes a long way. Never quit on yourself because it gets hard.
Just checked my calendar and I’ll be done with the second round of this program 1 week before we leave for our vacation or trip rather as we have kids lol. That gives me a firm reason to finish strong with both my workouts and nutrition!! If you want pure accountability, and support or don’t know what to do or how to start, reach out and grab my hand. I am here for you and you can try my workouts for 2 weeks without spending a penny 🙌🏻🙌🏻
Are you struggling with food sensitivities?😳⠀
The good news is, there are so many different food options out there nowadays. If you are intolerant or allergic to a certain food then with a little perseverance, you will get used to alternative options. To make this easier for you, I cover a range of substitutes for the most common allergenic and problematic foods below:⠀
Tree Nuts & Peanuts 🌿⠀
While sensitivities to sesame seeds are common, sunflower and pumpkin seeds don’t often cause allergic reactions. You could also switch tahini for sunflower seed and pumpkin seed butter.⠀
If you love baking, but you can’t eat eggs, flax seeds, chia seeds or organic applesauce are all great substitutes. Commercial egg replacers are also available.⠀
Cow’s Milk & Soy 🍦⠀
It is so simple to substitute these now because there are so many great non-dairy and soy-free alternatives. Next time you go to the grocery store, look out for almond, rice, oat, flax, hemp and coconut milk. You can even get dairy-free coconut yoghurts, which are delicious.⠀
You can easily opt for plant-based protein sources or organic chicken. Beans, lentils, seeds and lots of different vegetables are packed with protein.⠀
This isn’t that difficult to avoid because you can enjoy rice or buckwheat crackers, brown rice or quinoa pasta or noodles, gluten-free breads and gluten-free oats. What to watch out for is over-relying on heavily processed and refined gluten-free options. Remember, gluten-free chocolate cake is still chocolate cake!⠀
👉 Are you facing food sensitivities? What are your favourite substitutes? Let me know in the comments below. 👇👇⠀

I was humbled last weekend watching my daughter celebrate her tenth birthday with some of her closest friends. They rock climbed for hours and then ate up an allergen free cake! For years, I would work very hard on her cake design and recipe to make sure it was awesome as well as tasty. However this year was a little bit different. I took it really easy in the cake category - and stuck to a super simple cake with frosting and sprinkles. Guess what, the kids loved it just the same! My daughter was grateful that her friends were eating the same cake as she was. At the end of the day, she exclaimed “that was the best birthday party ever” which of course was music to my ears!
My point is, sometimes keeping it simple can yield the same results! What can you simplify today that seems like a huge sacrifice as a parent but won’t matter much to your kid(s) or yourself in the big picture of life?

The weather is crap, but I’m obsessed with @magicmixjuicery
! 🤤 Thank you for providing such inventive, creative and delicious options for this allergy/intolerance ridden soul! ❤️😻❤️. Maca-Matcha-Latte for the win!
Kiddo number one got his annual allergy testing done a little late this year, which made adding hamster to his panel easy enough. This is the kiddo who's hoping for a hamster. The good news -- hamster was negative! Two down, one to go. To be honest, I've been expecting one of the three of us (or more) to be allergic, so this is a surprise. The idea of a little ball of fur for a pet is growing on me...
And because I know many will wonder, he's still strongly positive for peanut and egg. Had some tree nuts with mild positives too--it's problematic keeping those in his diet since I'm allergic. May need to do some challenges, and then (hopefully) have hubby serve nuts more often. #AllergySuperheroes
I cried in the grocery store this weekend 😭 Don’t worry... it was a good cry! But yes, the man in the bread aisle did think I was losing it haha
Even with my little guy’s 8 food allergies, we eat a variety of amazing food. Most produce is safe, meats and fish are A-OK, and dairy is all good. The aisles of the supermarket are where things get tricky. I’d like to say that we stay away from all packaged, processed food... but that’s just not the reality. I’ve got a toddler, people... he eats pasta like a machine 🍝!!!
Since finding out about his sesame allergy, practically all storebought bread 🍞🥖🥐 has become off-limits for us. There have been two (yep, a measly TWO!!!) that we’ve found over the past 1.5 years. But, sadly, they’ve come and gone. One was discontinued, while the other changed processing facilities and recently gained a “may contain sesame” label 😡 (Yep, I read the labels EVERY. SINGLE. TIME.).
We now have a bread machine, make croissants at home and have found wraps that are kiddo safe. But sliced bread and buns are still elusive... until Saturday!!! A tried-and-true sliced bread we loved was BROUGHT BACK to our fave grocery store. Guys, this is a big deal for an #allergyMama
... like a take pictures, tear up and call your hubs FREAKING BIG DEAL 💥💥💥!
Who knows... they may disappear again tomorrow. So I bought 5 packages! And they’re not whole-grain, brown or covered in seeds (he’s allergic to those anyway!). But I couldn’t care less. Yep, no shame... sorry 🤷🏻♀️ Because they’re safe. And sometimes that’s just enough.
Any other allergy Mamas out there feel me?! What are your bread go-to’s? Lemme know below 👇🏼 Or share your happiest grocery store win! Trust me, none are too small or insignificant. We’ve gotta cling to those happy food moments ❤️.

Getting ready for the week ahead.
It’s going to be challenging because I’m traveling all week to a place that I don’t know what to expect for food, workout amenities, etc.
I’m a very schedule oriented person, so when I don’t have a set schedule, I get a little stressed. Especially when I think about how my food and eating will be impacted. It’s very difficult when you have food allergies, to just kind of wing it. Hoping not to grow a gluten baby. 🙀😩
BUT, I’ll figure it out, and take it day by day, moment by moment. 😎👊🏼

Finally back in my own home, eating a home cooked meal and not leftovers from a hotel fridge. My post con feast includes a "sammich" (because can you really call it a sandwich proper if it's on GF bread, with goat cheese instead of cheddar?) And a cuppa tomato soup! Food allergies and cons are hard, so it's nice to get to eat something safe at home again 💜

Anyone else have 3 versions of an Epi Pen? We are in the midst of our annual refills. We need 2 for school 4 for home and 2 for Grandparents house. So if you do the math you know how excited I was when the first set of refills came and I saw the cost of $59.99 Woo Hoo the new generic finally came in....
Well as you can see it’s slightly more confusing to use than the Epi Pen Jr or Avi Q. Went to the pharmacist and asked for a demo while she struggled it works just as they show on the box. However I will wait to send the Epi Pen brand or Avi Q to school and this will be one of our home ones.. .

Input needed: I need help deciding...which sticker do y'all like best?
The toddler was glutened at church this morning. 😞😱😩 We send her own snacks, remind the workers to please only give her food from her bag, and on her check in sticker we included a "do not feed outside food" note. But when the workers changed for the next service, there was some disconnect and when we picked her up she was eating animal crackers. Animal crackers.
Sure. There are worse things in life.
But it is so frustrating this has happened. There are reasons we have not introduced certain foods into her diet, mainly just not knowing what foods may cause reactions now or later in life.
The workers were so apologetic, but clearly the system isn't working (a couple months ago she was give gluten-free cheerios in the younger kid room). SO... I have decided to buy stickers to put on her that would draw attention to her dietary restrictions, since it is my job as a parent to do all I can to keep my child healthy. Which stickers would be the best? I am most concerned about gluten, but there are other foods we avoid & wouldn't want anyone else to give her without my approval/specific products (dairy, msg, wheat, grains, eggs).
The more vague ones are cheapest, the neon ones would be most easily identified...

Here are some of my all time FAVORITE CHEAT FOODS EVER!!!!!
* @daiyafoods #cheezecake
Non-dairy chocolate frozen dessert * @outshinesnacks
Mango fruit bars * and last but non least in any way - @sweetlorens #glutenfree #vegan
cookies - the best damn cookies on the market and shhhh better than my grandmas - and she’s a phenomenal baker!!!! ...................
(4 yrs) and #DairyFree
(3 months) has been a huge transition of my diet. Truly being pain free has been the best part of this process. IBS really sucks. ..................
The hardest part was giving up dairy but not as hard as you might think it was. Getting through my own thought process was harder than the actual Implementation of cutting dairy out. ...................
All the foods pictured are #glutenfree #dairyfree
(pretty sure on the vegan - 💯 sure on #gf
Now am I saying that everyone should cut out gluten and dairy. That’s a big fat “No!” ............................
However - I avoid all fast food, anything commercialized fried, though we do have a personal fryer here at the house because FRIES 🍟❤️ don’t need to be baked every time and fried plantains are a new love of mine, and I adjust recipes so I can eat sit down meals with my family - most of the time they eat #gf
also even though I’m the only one that needs an adjusted diet. ............
Bottom line is that I abide in the “junk food is sometimes” rules, don’t eat out much (but who can afford to eat out when you have a family of 6 to feed), eat a lot of green veggies, and get quite a bit of protein #FitnessJourney #ThisIs40 #ResolutionEvolution #ILoveFood #foodallergiessuck

I fell asleep at 8:30 yesterday and woke up 6:45 this morning.
The weight of juggling all the things hit me hard yesterday. A small mix up with my son’s safe snack at preschool triggered all the emotions. #foodallergiessuck
I was facilitating a meeting and wasn’t available for the teacher or my husband who were trying to call me.
My little one bumped his head and it was actually a hard hit so I got upset over that. #toddlerlifeishard
I have only run once this week for my half marathon that’s 5 weeks away.
And my house is not just cluttered... it’s a flat out mess. My little one throws his food all.the.time. and I am really missing my dog who died in December in those moments because he would be all about cleaning it up and getting a treat in the process. I literally spend the few hours we are together chasing after them with brooms and Clorox wipes because it’s food and it gets gross quick.
My husband walked in the door and I almost burst into tears mainly because I was exhausted. I tend to be really bad at asking for help but I looked at him and said “I got one down, you have to get this one down” and he took over.
In the 10 minutes of him brushing Bryce’s teeth and putting his pjs on I fell asleep on the couch and that was that 🤦🏻♀️
What’s your point, Lis?
I woke up with the intentions to make today a rest day. After all, I needed it right?! Oh so wrong. My husband was playing music this morning and I caught a glimpse of the boys giggling and dancing to it. When you hear your 3 yearold in a sweet little voice say “she shook me all night long” you can’t help but let all the stress go and crack up!
In that moment I made myself take my preworkout and I got my great workout in before work started today! It was EXACTLY what I needed!!!!
So if you woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning and you want to throw in the towel for the day, think again! I promise you a workout will wake you up and give you exactly what you need!
You should be your own motivational hero! Not your own worst enemy! #happywifey
I remember this day like it was yesterday. My son had just turned one and everything was perfect, then THIS. I was sad almost in mourning over food for my son. After about a week of shock and disbelief I began to take action. I was seeking any and all foods that he could eat. I reviewed the list of allergic foods with the doctor and we questioned the berries as he had been eating them every day until allergy testing. We did a full food challenge and came to realize he was allergic to the synthetic berries and not actual Strawberries and Blueberries🙌🏻 It left us with 4😢. #foodallergies #foodallergymom #foodallergyawareness #foodchallenge #strawberries #blueberries #turnitteal #foodallergiessuck #foodallergiesarereal
Jake had a food challenge today at the allergist to see if he can have milk, and unfortunately, did not pass 😩. #StillAllergic
Even though we are bummed, he is being a trooper about it... and we get to go back in a few weeks for a “pizza challenge” 🍕. After all, if you are going to be able to have dairy, isnt the important stuff food like pizza, lasagna and mozzarella sticks????? 😋🤣 #foodallergies #Kidswithfoodallergies #foodallergiessuck #milkallergies
end of program feels 💛
I am officially down to the last 3 days of the program I have been doing! Whaaaaat!! I have learned so much about myself through these last 8 weeks. I had to go on a new diet the same day I started this program. It was a struggle. Staying away from carbs is hard!
With that being said, to be completely honest with y’all, I haven’t been doing the best with the diet and I can tell. So, I am ready to jump back into it! Food allergies can be so frustrating sometimes, but it’s the way God made me and I’ve learned to accept it! ☀️
In 2012, a year after being diagnosed with a peanut allergy, Will had his first allergic reaction to a new food. Hummus.
We let him try a small bite one Sunday afternoon. He loved it, and immediately went back for more 2x. Then he suddenly acted like he didn't like it anymore and came over to me. I picked him up and noticed he started to cough and clear his throat. I looked at his mouth and saw that it was red all around it.
Immediately, I knew something was wrong.
As I looked closer, I realized he had broken out in hives all around his mouth and on his forehead.
Not knowing exactly what to do, I called the ped's answering service. He was still coughing, dry heaving and drooling. The nurse said to call 911.
Wayne and I were both feeling scared, unsure and guilty. We read the ingredients of the hummus over and over again, and there were no nuts listed anywhere or cross contamination.
When the paramedics got there, the hives had gone away and he seemed ok. Then he started throwing up and they said he had to go to the ER. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
By the time we got to the ER, he was covered in a rash that looked like a severe sunburn. It started at his neck and went all the way down his body. He was acting tired and weak. But thankfully, he was still breathing well.
They gave him a steroid and benadryl and said we would be staying for a few hours. In hindsight, he should have been given epi, but this was also my first experience, and I've learned from it.
He continued to break out in hives and that awful rash in different areas of his little body, as the reaction made its way through his system, even on the different medications.
We were released a few hours later, and thankfully, took our sweet baby home to recover there.
That day, I was THROWN into allergy mom world. I cried when we got home and started to process how scary it had been.
This was the 1st of many scares that have shaped me into the mom & woman I am today.
Scared mamas, I see you. You are not alone.
