We often speak of the kids who bully others with food allergies, but we don’t speak enough about the ones who protect them. Many food-allergic children have friends and family who are understanding, who make sacrifices, and who help to keep them safe. Let’s celebrate those ones – the ones who stand united – the silent heroes - more than we acknowledge those who prefer to hurt. #unsungheroes

What tips and advice do you have for flying with food allergies or special dietary needs? Any airlines you recommend/avoid? ✈️ 🍫 ❤️
Blog Post #121
— I’m a 20-year-old college student who just happens to have a food allergy so any advice I give on this blog is the advice of a 20-year-old college student. I’m not pretending to be an allergist or a pediatrician or a psychologist or a social worker or a food expert or anything like that. Zero years of med school here. I’ve never researched the psychological effects of anything on anyone. I’m not a parent so any parental advice I offer is gleaned from others. I wouldn’t even know how to change a diaper.
I’m a 20-year-old with a food allergy. Period. Everything I write on my daily blog, www.thelandofcan.com, is from my personal experiences of what I feel and what I think, from my personal interactions and conversations with others from the food allergy world.
One conversation that I’ve been looking forward to the most lately is my weekly podcast call with my parents, which I publish every Saturday. These honest talks about the challenges they encountered raising me with an allergy have opened my eyes. It’s really cool to hear them respond to my questions, especially since I’ve never really talked with them about how they raised me. I do feel that the honest conversations with my parents will help others, especially if parents listening continue the discussions on their own to form their own personal parenting philosophies.
My parents aren’t the only parents who have great advice to share. I simply give them the opportunity to say it. Today I want to extend the opportunity to other parents to offer advice. I’ll pass this advice along in future posts.
What’s a simple piece of advice you’d give to a scared, overwhelmed parent who just found out their child has a food allergy? #thelandofcan #thelandofnot #jjvulopas #eatable #youarewhoyouare #nooneisperfect #canspirational #foodallergy #foodallergies #foodallergiessuck #foodallergymom #foodallergylife #foodallergyfamily #foodallergyawareness #foodallergyfriendly #foodallergykid #foodallergykids #foodallergymama #peanutallergy #glutenfree #dairyfree #anaphylaxis #allergymom #foodsafety

5 MINUTE SIMPLE SALMON STIR FRY 🐟I'm feeling very chilled after my lunchtime yoga class so decided on a quick & simple lunch of Pak choi, salmon fillet, quiona, soy sauce & coriander 😋
I knew as a child that my “normal” was different. I wore a Medic Alert bracelet, carried epinephrine, and read all ingredients before eating. Sometimes there were frustrating and uncomfortable moments, but mostly it was just what I had always known and it didn’t really phase me. I knew that I had to do these things to keep myself safe and it was never a choice. I always wore my bracelet- there wasn’t an option not to. I always carried epinephrine (otherwise we turned right around- not a choice to forget it). Asking about ingredients- a must or I didn’t eat. Some things in life are a choice. With food allergies, there are certain things that will never be. My parents always chose safety first, therefore they found other ways for me to feel empowered with choices. For example, I couldn’t eat the birthday cake at a friend’s party, however I could choose which safe treat I wanted to bring with me to the party. I know my “normal” looked different, but as a child that was what I had always known and I knew some choices I could make and others were about safety and weren’t up to me to decide. What does your “normal” look like? How do choices work for you? #foodallergy #foodallergies #foodallergykid #foodallergyfamily #foodallergylife #foodallergymom #foodallergyfriendly #foodallergyawareness #anaphylaxis

Let me help you find favorites for your children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, godchildren, friends... Drop kitchen in Budapest is AMAZING!
Another day another desk lunch. Struggling to be creative with lunch when I can’t heat it up... going for salads with seeds, violife and Quorn ham at the minute with a gf pitta bread (which is pretty chewy and grim cold to be honest). My salad tip is keeping the toppings in a separate box so they don’t go all soggy overnight 🤞🏼

as I'm having poached eggs & spinach with her homemade chickpea, carrot & coriander burgers. These are so yummy! 😋I'm off for a long dog walk this morning followed by yoga as I slept so well after yesterday's session ☺️
🛒 Many “regular” food banks are staffed by volunteers and there’s little time, energy or room to provide a dedicated #glutenfree
friendly space. 🛒 Thankfully, however, people across the country are recognizing the needs of those experiencing food insecurity in the allergy-free community. 🛒
🛒 Several gluten-free and allergy-friendly food banks are now open and serving the public like @foodequality @mendhunger @therachelwayfoodpantry @nationalceliac @safefoodpantry
