Face off Friday: husband edition. I don’t feel like @kevboat
gets enough recognition for how great he is rocking the Ketogenic lifestyle. The top left picture is when we tried the whole “eat in moderation, low fat, count calories” thing and we ran a lot, that was right before we ran a 10K. The pic on the right was 9 months before he started keto. Bottom was yesterday. The pictures say enough, he’s never been leaner or more handsome. ;) I’m so grateful for the support of such an amazing man, I mean how many other husbands would enthusiastically agree when their wife says, “Hey, maybe we should just stop eating pizza and donuts!”? Thank you to Kev for being so amazingly supportive and I’m so happy we’re on this journey together! #keto #ketodiet #ketodietresults #faceofffriday #weightlosstransformation #weightlossjourney #weightloss #foodasmedicine #lovehim #liveyourfit #snapgi #snapfitness #snapnation #ketocouple

Possibly one of my favourite food flavourings. You can eat this pesto as a dip, add to pasta/zoodles, or as a dressing over salads or roast vegetables. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀
• 2 cups of freah basil (or you can use half basil, half baby spinach) ⠀⠀⠀⠀
• 1/4 cup toasted pine nuts ⠀⠀⠀⠀
• 1/4 cup parmesan ⠀⠀⠀⠀
• 5 tblsp olive oil ⠀⠀⠀⠀
• 1 garlic clove (optional) ⠀⠀⠀⠀
• Spritz of lemon juice (optional) ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Place ingredients in a hand blender and blend until finely chopped, adding the olive oil as needed. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Happy weekend folks, bon appetit!
Delicious and juicy these beauties do more than just look good:
Packed with vitamins and antioxidants they increase metabolism, support eye health, protect against cancer and strokes oh and they taste amazing! 🌶🧡 #healthiswealth #foodasmedicine
The way Dr Tracy from Modern Traditions really makes ‘food is medicine’ real - is quite mind blowing. .
She layers so much nutrition into everything she makes and into food that children aren’t going to reject either. Like these marula nut cookies. Every ingredient has a strong nutritional profile. Just one of them here - black jack leaf powder is so ridiculously high in nutritional benefits - high in anti-oxidants - vitamin C, beta carotene, vitamin E - high in fibre and is cited as being supportive of insulin regulation, cardiovascular health, digestive health and boasts anti-inflammatory properties. .imagine getting that and more from a cookie! .
That’s just one ingredient that is nutrient dense in this biscuit and they’re delicious to boot. .
Making sure every mouthful is nutrient dense, organic and using local African indigenous ingredients is the Modern Traditions philosophy. Her amaranth cupcakes in this week - are also off the charts delicious and chock full of nutrient density. .
Thank You Dr Tracy and Modern Traditions - for making it so easy and delicious to bang in nutrition without compromising on taste 💪💚🙏

Vegan Enchilada Casserole including tofu, black beans, cashew cheese, a chilli sauce with silken tofu, capsicums, spices, nutritional yeast, corn tortilla and my favourite ingredient tahini. I’m sharing this for dinner tonight so have to wait until then to taste this nutritionally balanced deliciousness.
A Cortland Apple. A little treat I picked up from the farmer's market today. According to Paul Pitchford in his book on Traditional Chinese Medicine, apples have a cooling thermal nature. They help to protect the lungs against cigarette smoke, stimulate the appetite, are good for gut health because of malic, and tartaric acids, and help to rid the body of cholesterol, harmful metals such as lead, and mercury, and the remnants of radiation. He further states that apples, help with low blood sugar, and they along with their juice, assist in cleansing, and nourishing the liver and gallbladder; I would also like to add that apples are a good source of vitamin C, and fiber which is why they are recommended to treat constipation. Given all those health benefits, it understandable how apples have earned their glowing reputation as an custodian of health. To add warmth to cooling foods such as apples, eat them with a warm spice, such as cinnamon. When I eat raw apple, I cut a slice and sprinkle it with cinnamon, and its scrumptious. I ate a little of this apple, and its the first time I have ever tasted a Cortland. It is wonderful, both sweet, and somewhat tart. #nutrition #rawfood

Have you notice that yellow spider too... Looks so comfy on that Yucca leaf.. My girls saw it was too close to their playground and of course they to call daddy to have a look... A plant overview
The plant of the day is the Yucca gleriosa of the Asparagaceae family. The Yucca is native of Central America(CA)... And nowadays used as a landscaping plant to embellish the gardens.
Some facts are that the roots of the Yucca are edible they are rich in carbohydrates, fibres some B complex vitamins and minerals. The natives people of CA used it for both culinary and medicinal purpose... Again #foodasmedicine
the closer you are to #nature
the more #awake
There is not lot of research about the therapeutic use of the Yucca but few research stated that the plant has
Antioxidant; anti-hypercholesterolemic; anticarcinogenic; anti-arthritic; anti-inflammatory; and anti-hypertensive properties.
It has been used to treat conditions such as arthritis, diabetes and stomach disorders.. Can be prescribed as food as medicine or the whole plant powdered and dispense in tablet or capsule.. Always seek professional advise before using the plant therapeutically.
So not a very common one to see in herbal Materia Medica and definitely more research are required to support it medicinal use.
Once again nature is telling us that it's here for us and health is for everyone to take... The healing power of nature

Happy Friday beauties 💕
Another early start for us today, 5.30am 🤦🏽♀️ Noa has been out of Nappies during the day since January but still wears a night nappy. Although early hours of the morning, I guess when his sleep is a little lighter, needing to go pee wakes him. Which I’m more than ok with! He still calls out for me to take him, which again I’m all good with.
What I am not so ok with, is that he isn’t going back to sleep after the toilet trip 🙈
Clearly still tired, yawning and disorientated. But nope, no more sleep. #stubborn
Noa has been a 7am waker since pretty much always. He just really doesn’t cope throughout the day after such an early wake up and won’t nap during the day 🤦🏽♀️ He’s also still fighting, what I really hope to be, the last of these lingering bugs he’s been battling for the past month.
Tired, sick 3 year old, I’m sure you can imagine what I’m talking about 💁🏽♀️😓
I’m a firm believer of food as medicine so today we whipped up a batch of my ‘Immunity Balls’. Crammed with immunity boosting, lemon, ginger, turmeric and honey. I find these are a great way to get some extra goodness into Noa as well as being a great snack at home, in the lunchbox or on the go.
Ok, so that is helping with fighting these niggly bugs...now what can I give him to help him sleep longer!😆😓😴
I’ll put the recipe for these Immunity Balls on my blog this weekend! 🥥🐻

🥞Ever struggled with knowing when to stop eating? Most of us only know TWO extremes of eating: STARVING or STUFFED. Very rarely do we actually slow down to mindfully eat our food, be aware of our hunger levels, our body and its cues.
📊Have you seen the hunger scale before? If not, here it is! It’s a great way to think about your physical sensation and mood as it pertains to hunger. Being more aware of hunger can help you:
🔺manage portion sizes
🔺control emotional eating
🔺understand when to stop eating
🔺recognize your personal hunger cues
🧠In order to lose weight, being mindful and eating slowly is needed to tune in and recognize the signs of fullness.
🍴You should practice trying to eliminate hunger, NOT chase fullness. I made the mistake of chasing fullness for the first part of my dieting life and when I made the switch, I noticed a big change in my body. In other words, on the chart, the goal should be numbers 5-6. Ideally, you should feel as though you could workout an hour later without discomfort.
❌Zones 1-3: Try to stay out of these zones to avoid binging, overeating, or becoming ravenous or lightheaded.
✅Zones 4-7: The sweet spot of fullness. Zone 5-6 is where you want to be after a meal. Like you could eat more but feel good 🤗
❌Zones 8-10: Try to avoid this zone! This is what you may typically feel like after Thanksgiving 🍗
Be sure to bookmark this and tag a friend below who would benefit from this chart!✌🏼 (thank you @hooper.fit

What if you could make water tasty?
Water is odorless, tasteless, mostly colorless and does not contain any calories, fat, protein, or carbs. It does not offer any nutritional value, yet is definitely an essential element to stay healthy.
Your taste buds are not naturally excited to drink a glass of water unless you are quenched. As such, people try to solve this problem with flavored water and sugary sports drinks in attempt to drink more water. You have to be aware of nutrition to know what is good, bad and necessary for you.
Tips to make drinking water fun and tasty: 😋😍 👉 Add fresh fruits - Fruit infused water is a great alternative to water because they taste amazing and made with super healthy ingredients.
👉 Use juice - Fruit juices are good base flavor for water. Go for all natural and without added sugars.
👉 Make it bubbly - Sparkling mineral water may provide the benefits of added minerals.
👉 Try it with ice - If you prefer cold water, then flavored ice cubes makes an even better drink. Use fresh fruit juice, fruits or mint leaves and put them into ice tray, then add water to freeze.
👉 Drink tea - Herbal, green, white or red teas are better options than black teas and also coffee. Tea has antioxidant especially green tea
👉 Go for broth - If you prefer savoury, choose low-fat low-sodium vegetable broth for maximum benefits.

🔬Different studies have been showing that antibiotics influence the function of the immune system, our ability to resist infection, and our capacity for processing food. Guess why?
❌We all know about the adverse effect that antibiotics have in our gut bugs. And it is important to remember that the imbalance caused by antibiotics can negatively affect our health in a numerous manners and for long periods of time❗️
💊Of course that the use of antibiotic has saved millions of human lives, facilitated technological progress and killed a bunch of microbes, both the bad and also a couple of good ones. So it is important to be cautious with the use of such medicine. For the good of your gut bugs and for your overall health.
Which PRObiotic are you feeding your gut bugs with today? 😋 #gutmorning
This combination of leftovers turned out to be a dish that I would love to make again! Tofu, red cabbage, portobello mushrooms, black beans, brown rice and the most delish Koren bbq sauce I found @traderjoes
🤷🏽♀️ was super delish!
Hiii NK fam!! How’s your week been?! Quick question... Do you subscribe to my weekly scoop email that goes out every Friday? 🤸🏼♀️ I’ve been at it for the last 2 months and I realized I haven’t really shared it with you guys much over here on insta! The basic format is: 5 bullet points of different things that I’m learning/doing/loving and it’s been SO FUN sharing some different stuff besides recipes on a weekly basis 👌🏼 This week we’re talking about: an article on inflammation that I’m reading, my top blog post of the week, my email inbox news that I’m most pumped about, an inspiring instagrammer that I’m crushing on, and a quote that I’m taking to heart this week! I’ll share the quote below because I just love it so much and it hits so close to my heart 💗 if you wanna sign up follow the link in my profile to be a part of my weekly scoop fam! ✨ I would be honored to connect with you!! If you sign up but miss this week’s email hit me up and I’ll make sure it finds it’s way to your inbox 😘 • “I have found that some of the simplest things have given me the most pleasure. They didn’t cost me a lot of money either. They just worked on my senses. Did you ever pick very large blueberries after a summer rain Walk through a grove of cottonwoods, open like a park, and see the blue sky beyond the shimmering gold of the leaves? Pull on dry woolen socks after you’ve peeled off the wet ones? Come in out of the subzero and shiver yourself warm in front of a wood fire? The world is full of such things.”
It’s time for a change.
The diet that once worked like magic don’t work anymore. We need a different approach.
Do you need help figuring out if your product will harm mum and/or baby?
This stuff is the elixir of the gods. Maybe I’m saying that because it actually got me through this last week of sickness or maybe I’m saying it because it’s the first “cough” medicine I’ve ever had that
A. Worked + B. Didn’t taste like a primary color. 🤷🏼♀️ (For those who don’t love ACV, it didn’t have that acidic burn either)
I’m only posting this one out of the many that got me through the last week because I was so skeptical of the price tag (it’s steep at $20+ for this bottle) but the ingredients were 100% pure + organic. This is the first time I’ve ever treated a seasonal cold/bug with 100% purely natural options + I can honestly say I’ve bounced back faster than I ever have using traditional OTC meds. This @mickelberrygardens
tonic wins first prize because it’s so potent + it helped me stop coughing + get the rest necessary to get better!🤧
Guys, food is medicine. Natural ingredients are medicine. What you put in, on + around your body is important for your body’s ability to fight off the bacteria + junk in the air (pollution, sickness, etc). We live in a world of mostly man-made materials, preservatives, food + technology. We are living Guinea Pigs...why NOT go back to some old tried + true natural resources? The best thing about using natural remedies is that you’re providing your body the nutrients to heal itself...making it stronger for the next bout of bacteria + sickness that comes along. Tell me some of your natural tips + tricks in the comments below!🌱🧡🐻
Lunch making. I help guide the main course and plant kingdom items. Today: Black bean burgers. I have a goal of making these one day, in the meantime, I choose carefully from what is out there. Always a fruit or vegetable or both and then they choose the rest of the snacks. They feel they have a choice and the house has some good choices for snacks. I’m happy. They’re happy.
Daily hydration. Pitcher of water filled at the beginning of the day. Added sliced lemons, sliced ginger and mint leaves (because that’s what I love and have at the moment). I finish the pitcher throughout the day and refill as needed. Great first goal to better health.
