A tasty, balanced breakfast doesn’t have to be really complicated. Some of my favorite recipes have been born from “kitchen sink” days when I’m out of groceries and essentially playing solo Chopped 😂
This toast took 2 mins and hit the spot: sliced strawberries + bananas on top of multigrain sourdough spread thicc with unsweetened PB, drizzled with local honey + sprinkled with chia seeds. Protein. Carbs. Fat. Flavor. Boom. 👏🏼

everyday, especially these hot summer days. ✨Since I have been eating berries most everyday the past 4 mths, I have been healing on a tremendous level. ✨Berries have allowed me to detox from a lot of the symptoms that would in the past 5 years, leave me bed ridden. ✨Berries have also helped my cognitive function. I used to have terrible brain fog, memory loss, and slurred speech. It was scary and frustrating. My grandmother had passed away years back from dementia and keeping up with brain health was always important to me after she had passed. ✨Other improvements have been my overall sleep, less anxiety and no depression and a weight loss of 40 pounds!! I would also get reactivation of EBV most every month. I'm happy to say I haven't gotten sick since Feb. I am more active and have been able to meal prep most all day and take care of other responsibilities...I feel so fortunate and blessed. There are many more ailments that have greatly reduced or disappeard- I'll save that for another post ✨Aside from berries, I follow the MM protocols. I feel like I am getting a new life. A fear of scarcity - or a perceived lack of abundance - is often present in the psyche of a binge eater.
This fear can arise from different types of life experiences, but commonly, it is actually transferred unconsciously through the generations that came before. In other words, your fear of scarcity may have been born into your psyche before you were even born into your body.
That might sound nutty. But information passes unconsciously through generations and cultures more than we'd like to admit, through storytelling, behaviors, and spirit. If your grandparents grew up in an environment of scarcity, they may have learned that feelings of safety come from a celebration of abundance.
I come from a family of immigrants who traveled to the United States from poor and war-impacted regions of Italy, and arrived in America on the cusp of the Great Depression. Decades later, I grew up being over-fed as a sign of love and security. "Mangia! Mangia!" my grandmother would yell. I couldn't walk into a room without someone offering to make me a plate and guilting me into eating everything on it. At our holiday meals and Sunday dinners, we had enough courses to feed 10 times the amount of people in our family, and enough desserts to cover 10 years' worth of holidays.
Why? Because the abundance felt safe; like some kind of guarantee that we would always have enough. If we drowned ourselves in abundance, we could keep the evils of scarcity at bay and never be poor again. That wasn't my trauma, it was my grandparents', and yet I somehow embodied it.
Understanding these forces promotes healing. We cannot let go of what we don't know we're holding on to. And we must be kind to ourselves in the process of self-discovery, for the only thing we're guilty of is surviving the best way we know how.

RECIPE: SUMMER BERRY AÇAÍ BOWL👇🏻
3/4 C unsweetened nut milk
1-2 scoops @nuzest_usa
chocolate flavored protein
1 scoop @furtherfood
1 tablespoon @sunbutter
or nut butter of choice
1 tablespoon chia or flax seeds
1 handful organic spinach
1 packet unsweetened frozen açaí purée
3/4 C Frozen mixed berries
About 1 tablespoon of chopped nuts or seeds for topping •
Add all ingredients to a high-speed blender or @vitamix
in the order listed for easiest Blending. Blend on high or smoothie setting until smooth & creamy, using tamper to push ingredients down to the blade. If you don’t have a high-speed blender, you might need to add some liquid to get things moving. Pour into a chilled bowl, top & enjoy! #mfwrecipes #mfweats

You guys. You all know how much I love my oatmeal but some days you just can't face another bowl of what has now become slurpy slurry. Magic! Cookie bites for breakfast. Mash 1 cup oatmeal, cinnamon powder and 2-3 bananas mixed with filler of your choice. Dates, cranberries, walnuts, chocolate chips, unsweetened cocoa powder? Yep, yes, absolutely. I was out of most of that today so just went with some carob powder, almond butter and walnuts. Bake at 350°F for 10-15 minutes. This made 11 hefty balls (that sounds weird) and are perfect for commuter breakfast or trail/hiking breakfasts or snack energy bites. Possibilities! "I've got the brains, you've got the looks, let's make lots of money (or breakfast bites)..." Pro-tip. Make several batches. You'll thank yourself later. 🍪

I finally tried broiled grapefruit and it is the only way I’ll eat my grapefruit now (jk, because I’m lazy AF). I sprinkled @lakantosweetener
golden sweetener on top for extra sweetness and hoped it might caramelize, but since it’s not real sugar, I had my hopes up too high 😂. I’ve been loving this sweetener in small applications in place of real sugar though. Gets the job done and works really well in baked goods (again, in small doses). I’ll stop ramblin’ now: all you do to make broiled grapefruit is turn your oven on broil and let it heat up for a few minutes. Meanwhile, cut the grapefruits in half. If the grapefruits are wobbly you can cut a little part of the butt end off to create a flat surface (but don’t cut all the way to the pith). Top them with some sort of sugar (brown sugar would be SO good) and as much or little as you’d like. Pop em in the oven, not on the very top rack, but the 2nd one down and they should be done in 2-3 minutes. DO NOT EVER leave anything under the broiler alone. You’re setting yourself up for black crusted food 🙈🙋🏼♀️😂😵. Check these bad boys around 2 minutes.

I love salsa! 🌞 And even more, I love making salsa. Yesterday, I harvested my first homegrown jalepeno pepper and roasted it for part of this #freshsalsa

1. In a dry frying pan on medium heat, roast a whole jalepeno pepper with a few cloves of garlic and the slices of half a peeled yellow onion. When there are a few brown spots on each, remove from the pan. You can't expect anything to brown evenly. Remove the garlic skins and core the jalepeno. If you want it extra spicy, keep the jalapeno seeds.
2. In a food processor, puree the jalepeno, onion and garlic with the juice of one lime. Add in a can of diced tomatoes and pulse a few times. Stir in some chopped cilantro, if you wish! Then taste for seasoning and add salt and pepper.
3. Chill in the fridge for a few hours, then enjoy! This salsa will be sure to last a few days... if you dont eat it all in one seating 😘
Day 2 done... this morning started off with a client meeting who is starting the battle, literally, for his life. We are using food as medicine (combined with modern medicine too, of course). And it got me to thinking- we all have a starting point. Things don’t have to be all or nothing, in this case going from a highly processed diet to one based on whole, real foods. Baby steps, tiny bites, one at a time. And day by day those small changes will result in one great big change. There may be small slip ups along the way, but dust yourself off and get back on track. Fail forward. So while I completed day 2 of my new workout program, I’m reminded that everyone is at a different point in their own, individual journeys. We need to be kind and forgiving to ourselves as we fail forward. Life isn’t perfect, and we aren’t meant to live it perfectly. We’re human, we’re here to make mistakes, we learn and improve from them and they make us who we are. Embrace the hard, embrace the suck, embrace the journey, and love yourself along the way.
