Toronto was fucking FREEEEEZING this past weekend. I managed to go at the perfect time, which was right when they were having their first big snowstorm and temps were well below 0 F. I ended up eating tons of spicy food as a result and found this gem of a Chinese restaurant (Harmony Chinese Restaurant on Dundas) making pretty authentic dishes. It’s a small basement place with dingy decor but I find for Chinese restaurants the dingier the interior, the better the food. I got the mapo tofu which was 🔥🔥🔥. Spicy and filling with pieces of ground pork and pork belly. Prices are really reasonable and even better when you factor in the current CAD to USD exchange rate. #canada #toronto #mapotofu #chinesefood

Was it worth it? Absolutely. Thing is, I feel like this REALLY BLOODY LONG month has achieved what I wanted it to. I've been reminded about food beyond meat. At first I loved it and questioned if I'd ever go back. But I am a meat-eater, and moving forward, this sort of meat is the only meat I ever want to eat.
I'd go back to eating meat occasionally right now if I was allowed (my other half won't let me because a) this was my idea and b) I got all militant when she confessed to eating some chocolate in the early days).
And also: how bloody long is January? I feel like I've been doing this for MONTHS already. Jesus.

today and my favourite pies have to be these little beauties from @apieparty.
The pie in the picture is the S’MORES PIE which was one of the monthly specials in September last year. It has marshmallow fluff pipped on top of the baked dark chocolate ganache.
Tastes as good as it looks, with the perfect amount of marshmallow fluff and dark chocolate ganache! If you ever need motivation to get out of bed on a Sunday, this is the one!

has been on my list for a while now. The hot chocolate is definitely tasty, not too heavy and no bitter notes to it. It’s still not my favourite cause I prefer more milk in my hot chocolate but I’m sure a lot of people will love it. I wasn’t a fan of the torched marshmallow, the consistency/texture wasn’t right (but I’m being picky) but overall worth checking when in @maltbystmarket

table, raw florets of broccoli & tomatoes plucked from the vine are staisfyingly filling when sharing bedspace with feta & charred hazelnuts. A decent upending of dressing doesn't go amiss, nor a few twists of the peppermill.
