After a lovely spot of Sunday driving I found myself in Port Melbourne. It was afternoon, the sun was high and so was my hunger.
I knew that @thirdwavecafe
had the BBQ Bucket Challenge and whilst I wasn't in the mood for a chally, the bucket looked delicious so thought I could just casually cruise through it within the fifteen minute time frame and get a free feed.
Thirty laps of Rouse st later (Chap laps in 2018) I was seated and ready to order. The waitress gave me the customary looks of skepticism and doubt, told me it’d be too much food for me, and that up until the previous day everyone had failed attempting it before two people had been in and smashed it. I was in the midst of one of my self-imposed social media bans and hadn’t been on the gram for over a week so wasn't certain who it was but I had a pretty good idea. After a quick stalk my suspicions were confirmed. It had been none other than eating machines @hulksmashfood
who had both dominated the BBQ bucket in 7.42 and 8.17 respectively.
This changed my plans. I didn't want to go flat out as it was lunch time, the place was packed and I was with my girlfriend, but at the same time I had to get the record so I wasn’t going to be able to completely cruise.
I started with the chicken wings, pulling them off the bone with my teeth using the head job method before swallowing them whole. I sucked the onion rings down and then preceded to work my way through the bucket at a steady but strong pace. I didn’t let it cool very long and a lot of the meat was too hot to swallow without chewing.
In a team eating challenge the week prior Hulk had schooled me in the art of eating chips, I used some of his technique to great effect with the waffle fries and smashed them much faster than I would have using my pitiful method from the week before.
By 6.40 all bones were clean and I had another record!
Thanks heaps to @thirdwavecafe
