This week I spoke at my first ever nutrition class. I’m not a qualified nutritionist and neither do I pretend I have any/all of the answers. I went in to share the knowledge I’ve learnt as 4 generations of our family have now lived in the west and the healthiest was the one that ate home cooked meals and even at the age of 93 has managed to avoid diabetes, cholesterol, blood pressure, and all the life style related diseases that plague our society today. I spoke from experience and hoped to learn from the audience too. But frankly I never expected the responses I got. The ladies were so overwhelmingly kind (and complimentary about my food samples) but it was shocking to see how large the gaps in knowledge about food and food related diseases were.
