Chole Bhature in a Dhaba translates as chickpeas and fluffy deep-fried leavened bread made in a roadside cafe. It was so delicious and in about 5-8hrs I’m going to find out if I still have Indian street-food immunity 🤞🏼. #streetfood
Breakfast in semi rural north India. I’m visiting my parents for a few days because my mum had a minor injury (she’s on the mend 🙏🏼). As it’s not a usual trip to my parents it hard to capture the essence of their daily lives. They are both incredible cooks and we are the kind of family who discuss lunch while we eat breakfast. As we are mostly doing hospital runs , the food is on the back burner. They live in a pretty rural part of north India, they grow almost everything that they eat, they rescue all sorts of animals all the time, they have 3 dogs , a blind cat and their latest addition is male calves because apparently no one wants them. Their days seem to be filled with looking after their veg, feeding all their animals (everyone gets home cooked meals.) All the neighbors weave in & out of each other’s land and seem to constantly be making some offering or another. This photo is of one their neighbours, we passed by their land on our way to get to the cows to get our morning milk and this lady asked if we’d like to stay for breakfast, she was making fresh chapatis. My dad very politely declined the offer, which I still haven’t forgiven him for. #farmlife#india
Hi guys😌 hope each and everyone of you are doing good today. Today I’ll be sharing the bad part to my cooking 💁🏻 cause that’s one of the reasons I created this account, to share the good and the bad☺️ So the above picture is my first attempt ever at making dumplings and I actually thought they came out quite nice, but my husband on the other hand pointed out that they tasted a bit bread like doughy still, and then all of a sudden I started feeling the same 😓 so I won’t be sharing the recipe for the dumplings here today until I master it. He said my curry came out perfect and the potatoes and meat was soft but it was just the dumplings itself. So I was wondering, maybe I could get some suggestions from you guys so I have a better chance of success with the dumplings next time. I did use brown flour, so I’m not sure if that’s what caused it to taste more like bread. All suggestions are most welcome. I added a list of the ingredients I used for the dumplings, hopefully someone can pick up my error in it.
2 1/2 cups brown wheat flour
4 tsp baking powder
3 tbs margarine
3/4 cup milk
3/4 cup flour
1 tsp salt
I mixed the above and formed my dumpling dough which was kind of sticky, but I assumed that’s how it’s suppose to be. I cooked my curry and steamed the dumplings in the pot for about 20-30 minutes thereafter.
I look forward to feedback from all you foodie lovers 💕😅 #foodie#dumplings#experiment#mutton#potato#newadventure#foodloving#eatsummorewithzaahra
It's difficult to give away food that looks this good.. but hey, sharing is caring, right!? 🙌 At least, so far as our food is concerned.. 💫 If you're less inclined to share your rosemary and grapefruit frosé from @theoasiswgtn , we totally understand! 😉 Life's a balance, after all! We can't always be its model citizens.. 🤗 Let yourself indulge at Frank Kitts Park today/tomorrow from 12-3pm, at Kai on High today from 5-9pm, or at Karori Food Truck Friday tomorrow at 4-9pm! 🌸
All veg homemade spicy bean Tortillas. I woke up starving. Still trying to be thrifty so went through my fridge and found a sweet potato, a few gorgeous big red chilies, had a can of kidney beans, Masa harina for the tortillas, and I always have coriander, limes & spring onions. So I made a vegetarian bean chili, roasted the chilies and blitzed them with coriander limes & garlic for a bomb side sauce, made some sweet potato chips for crunch & topped it with some greek yoghurt for cream. Massa harina tortillas are so easy to make - water, salt , minimum knead. I have a press so they make in no time. All this made from all that laying around in various parts of my kitchen. Imagination works best when being frugal. #tortillas
Rich but clean chicken & Yuzu ramen, still got chi yu in there so don’t be fooled by the innocent face. Made super quick egg noodles, I think going to the shop to buy some would have actually taken me longer than making these. Yuzu was a killer move. I’m going India for a few days tomorrow, might need to get another bowl in just to keep myself quiet. #ramen
