Our beautiful home, it’s frustratingly hard to access. Schools not even out, have #cabinfever
already. Most look forward to #summer
, I often dread it. Hate winter, makes it harder for us to get out, but now I think not being able to enjoy summer due to lack of #mobility
is even more #frustrating
Just a simple forest walk, but #cerebralpalsy
tends to take the simple out of everything.
This path looked doable, found it was steep and lumpy. Not something a #wheelchair
can easily take on. My daughter and chair together are about 140 pounds, I’m strong, but pushing that uphill takes is HARD. A few years back some kind friends got together and raised money for an #adaptedstroller
We sure used the hell out of that stroller! It bought us some #freedom
we wouldn’t have had otherwise. Why must kids grow? 😅 Mobility equipment is a constant bane. Our province no longer funds any type of stroller, or even a real wheelchair. They cut more disability funding every year, it’s pathetic how our government disrespects the weakest members of society.
I was determined to get us into the forest to enjoy our afternoon, so my girl could do her favourite thing and throw rocks into the creek. I use the anger I have towards government to muster strength to heave a wheelchair into the woods 💪🏽
Sweating and exhausted, I got her up there. She was sick because it was such a lumpy ride in the chair. Serious power-lifting-level training for Mama, and a bigger stroller is definitely in order. Not easy to find in her size. Nobody considers that people with disabilities might want to get out into nature also 🤷🏽♀️
Able bodied people, don’t take your mobility for granted. Parents with healthy kids who can easily run through the forest, don’t take that for granted either. Disability changes the way you see others, and heightens your ability to see through them. Which is why you’ll find me pushing her wheelchair in the woods alone more times than not ✌🏽
