has launched three soup bases (brewed in-house) that you can go for instead of their normal congee base. Choose between Pork Rib Lotus Root ($18), Chicken Herbal Collagen ($25) or Base of Seafood ($28). Using steaming technology, you'll get to enjoy the natural flavours of the dishes as this mode of cooking will retain the original flavours and nutritional value. Plus the meat juices collected while steaming will drip into the soup base below thus thickening it.
A range of new dishes has also been launched, such as:
- beautifully platted Meat Flower Rings featuring tender marinated beef ($10) or sliced fish ($9.80)
- Chef’s Speciality Paper-wrapped Mala Groupe Fillet ($19.80)
- Handmade cuttlefish paste ($8.80)
- Chef's Speciality Bamboo Shoot Roll ($7.80 for 3 pieces)
- Sweet potato ball with sweet corn ($4.80 for 2 pieces) - XO sauce rice roll ($6.80 for 2 pieces)
- Mixed paste oyster wanton ($4.80 for 2 pieces)
- Chawanmushi with three types eggs ($4.80)
- Marinated braised beef ($13.80) and many more
We went for the Chicken Herbal Collagen, well its hard to resist collagen when your table is all girls, which was healthy and nutritious. Though I felt the soup was kind of blend and wish there was stronger herbal flavour.

While rambling around the old Arcade building in Raffles Place in search of an early lunch, I stumbled upon this four months-old eatery that specialises in #meehoonkueh
. Their signature is the soup version but their handmade noodles (there are the usual three types to choose from) are available with laksa gravy or prepared in a dry style as well. I ordered the latter with a soft-boiled egg added on for an extra 50 cents (total price: $$6), and was delighted at how good it turned out to be.
The al dente pieces of “mee hoon kueh” were wonderfully soft and smooth with zero trace of flouriness. They also had a nice chewiness that made me think of a rather firm mochi that’s been sliced flat. With the egg broken and stirred around, the noodles became even tastier coated in its lusciousness.
The toppings were blanched “mani cai” (马尼菜 - the dark green bitterish vegetable that I love), some minced pork, sliced mushrooms, fishballs and meatballs. For the price and given the location of this eatery, the amount was good.
In terms of condiments, you can help yourself to sliced chilli padi in soya sauce, a savoury sambal and a thin, sourish chilli dip.
There is very, very limited seating here and it is pretty warm, so unless you go for a very early or late lunch, takeaway is probably a better option.

Once I knew #BurppleBeyond
was available at “Hotpot Heroes”, a new place in my neighborhood, I decided to have my next family dinner there, so that’s where we headed last night.
The four-broths combo pot was our pick and this is the combination we settled on: medium level Sichuan Mala (spicy, oily but tasty), Wild Mushroom (we liked its strong earthy fragrance), Beauty Collagen (neutral tasting but could be more “collageny” I felt) and Beauty Tomato (pleasantly sweet and easy to drink).
Because there were 6 of us, we could redeem a maximum of 3 X Burpple Beyond 1-for-1 deals. Our selections were the Meat Dish (U.S. Angus beef short rib + sliced pork belly), Seafood Dish (a whole golden pomfret + a bowl of asari short-neck clams) and Handmade Dish (prawn paste with ebiko + mixed balls platter). Of course we couldn’t resist adding on other items that are mainstays in any respectable hotpot meal like luncheon meat (come to mama!), fried beancurd skin rolls, assorted mushrooms and vegetables.
I felt the overall quality of the food here was really decent, fresh in taste and attractively presented.
The mix-your-own-dipping-sauce section had an acceptable number of condiments to play around with but could have been topped up more promptly.
Service was earnest and sincere but as this eatery is very new, things weren’t so smooth-running yet (which is expected) and the staff were slightly slow to respond at times. However, I am sure there will be improvements very soon since they all seem to have a positive and good attitude.
I must admit I felt a bit thirsty when I got home last night and when I woke up this morning.
