Good people of Instagram...I need your opinions. So, for the last 10 years we have had the same 32" TV, which still works beautifully. It served us well in our little rancher, but it was dwarfed in this big living room, so it was time for an upgrade. Queue in this monstrosity...I love our new TV, I adore it...but it is the most un-victorian thing I have ever seen. Now let's be realistic here...Yes, we want this house to be as period accurate as possible, but the reality is...we still have to live here and, like it or not, the TV has to stay. There's no other wall to put it in so now the question is...how to blend it in? The credenza you see there is just temporary, it needs to be refinished and moved to another room, so that will be gone, and we will be buying a more period appropriate piece of furniture for the TV components...but around the TV, what should I put there? Something above the TV? Something on the sides? What do you think? At least we were able to hide the cables! 😁

You guys...you guys...you guuuuys!!! Take a look at this! Ok...quick back story...I signed for an account with Newspapers.com and started doing some research, and I came across this article...Published February 14th, 1908 in the York Daily newspaper, the title reads: "Dallastown Man Entertains Friends"...Look..at..this...article!!! You all remember Chauncey, right? He was about to marry his father's housekeeper but died two weeks before the wedding? The more I find out about Chauncey, the more I discover his character. He clearly was a socialite, a man who liked to entertain, and I have learned that he had a few flings before Idabelle, all women of high social status, which makes me wonder why he chose a housekeeper to settle down? Nothing wrong with that, but he could have had any woman he wanted...why choose her? What was it about Idabelle that tamed Chauncey? But anyway...isn't this the absolutely most victorian thing you ever read? (I know it's past victorian time, but if you have ever watched a period drama you will know exactly what I mean)

Here is another old timey picture for you! This is J. W. Minnich. He is the one for which the house is named after. I did a lotnof research on this house and, apparently, there was another property here, but when he bought it he did extensive renovations to make the house what it is today. He was a business man (and a very good one apparently as he was one of the richest man in town), and he owned a cigar factory. Apparently, cigar manufacturing was all the rage in Dallastown at the time. He was born 1860, and died in 1940 (or was it 1941?). And according to a newspaper clipping that I found, he once lost his umbrella and it was a very big deal because the whole ordeal was published in the newspaper. Anyway...can I just draw your attention to the cane?? You guys, he has a cane, just for show, like what you see in movies!!! Isn't he dapper?

She’s scooping rainbow aquarium rocks and listening to Robert Munsch records and I’m cleaning house.
Can’t wait to Christmas up the place very soon! 🎄🤶
I tried to come up with a neat story for this...I got nothing. Zilch. Nada. Here's what we know: the previous owner liked the sconces on each side of the mantel, but she did not want to see the switch to turn them on/off because...reasons? So she asked her husband to hide it inside the fireplace. Yes, you can actually hide it. See that black border? It has a bit of a lip on the inside so that you can actually rest the switch on it. Otherwise it looks like what you see in the picture....So now, every time I want to turn my beautiful sconces on, I have to jump inside the fireplace like I am going to Narnia, find the switch and turn it on (provided that the on/off switch for the switch itself hasn't been turned off, because then I have to turn that on before I can turn the actual lights on...why?!?!?!) I cannot wait for my lovely husband (hi, hun! 👋) to fix this for me because I cannot live with this insanity...
This window in the bathroom has been painted shut since we moved in. It’s the only remaining original double hung window with pulleys, rope cord, and weights. We used a heat gun to remove enough paint for us to open.
We will have to come back to it soon to get the rest of the paint off. If the wood is in good enough condition, we will definitely be staining instead of repainting. #oldhouselove #restoration #oldwindow #victorianhouse #saltlakecity #fortheloveofoldhouses #removepaint
My weekend warrior project. Refinishing this old staircase that had been carpeted and painted over. I pulled more nails and staples out of these stairs than I thought humanely possibly. True story when I pulled the carpet out I found the skeleton of a mouse or rat (it was pretty big and flat) squished between the padding and carpet. Ewe! Wonder how long it was there. #fortheloveofoldhouses #artfullyupcycled #centuryhomewoes
Stained glass windows are the best windows. 😍
The Lockmasters House; Marietta, Ohio. 🖤
Things I love this time of year:
+ brightly colored fall leaves all over the ground. 🍂
+the smell of the seasons first snowfall filling the air. ❄️
+that feeling you get when the clouds part way after a gloomy day and sunshine covers everything. 🙌🏻
Went on a very Lorelei Gilmore walk through town to grab coffee at our local cafe and breathe in this fresh, cold air. The sun was shining and everything was dripping and glittering from the melting snow. It reminded me of the importance of transitioning and a quote that i love dearly so I thought I would share it here with you:
“Every season is one of becoming, but not always one of blooming. Be gracious with your ever-evolving self.”
— B. Oakman
If you’re in transition, in that place between seasons, know that even here you are growing & becoming exactly who you are meant to be. ✨ #graceupongrace #seasonschange
I wanted to share this gloriously warm Art Nouveau room with you all! I am a massive Art Nouveau fan (I love anything from the turn of the century, lets be honest) and found this room to be so visually appealing. The shapes, the colors, the WOODWORK! Just gorgeous. Fun fact about me: one of my favorite artists is Alphonse Mucha 😘
