Welcome to Day 1 #ModifyYourYoga
This challenge is all about adapting and growing on practicing a posture that might be tricky to you at present!
I have shown my love for this asana many times before and even last week, for another challenge.
I have many students that struggle here, as in this posture you need to learn to move from hips with a stretched and long spine, using the arms to aid the extension.
So, a strong and stiff Psoas, tight hamstrings and lack of flexibility on the spine, can hold you here.
So, how can you do when you can’t reach the feet?
I am showing here the use of @infinitystrap
(orange), if your distance to reach is shorter or a longer strap (White) if otherwise.
The strength created by the resistance of straps around the feet will help you to move from the hips.
In both cases:
👉Inhale, stretch the legs, lift the chest, OPEN THE SHOULDERS, engage the bandhas, glue abs in CREATING space around the waist 👉Exhale, move from HIPS, aiming TORSO towards thighs.
👉DON’T curve the spine ever to reach down:
If you can’t today, breath on lower point, 5 breaths.
This is what is called in Ashtanga the state of the asana, which I show on bottom right on the collage.

Any queries, please feel free to DM !
Carry on practicing with the strap till you won’t need it anymore!
I guarantee it is worth as Paschimottanasana has many benefits, against insomnia, anxiety, it massages the abdominal organs, and among others, gives a strong sense of grounding, calming, and control.
Don’t forget to check Ester’s, Indira’s, Lamirse’s and Temy’s fab posts for their modifications!
My strap: @infinitystrap.
