| S A L A B H A S A N A | . Today we kick off with the first pose of the backbending sequence in the Intermediate Series. This one is all about strengthening the back of the body. We do 5 breaths each in Salabhasana A and B (different arm variations, see photos). . At the moment my practice consists of full Primary and about half of Second Series. I’ve been told I can “split” my practice to save time (meaning do half splits of Primary followed by Second), but I’m trying to build strength and prefer to do the full practice most days. Honor yoga 30 day "back to the mat" challenge- @honoryogamansfield @honoryoganow Day 6. Today we’re presented with another question- how are you mindful? While I know that I’m not perfect, (not by any stretch of the imagination), I try my hardest to be mindful, always. In the decisions I make, in the food I eat, in my teaching, in my parenting. In my marriage... I lose sight of this and will lose my patience with the kids, or get frustrated with everyday life stuff, but I can honestly say that I try. I try to put myself in the other persons shoes and be empathetic. I try to treat others with kindness instead of allowing a snap judgement to dictate my behavior. I try to listen to my body when it’s SCREAMING at me from lack of self care... this is definitely my biggest struggle, and the thing I am making an effort to improve. “you can’t pour from an empty cup. “ I don’t think there have ever been truer words.
✨A sign for transformation is when you find the MESSAGE in your MESS. . Day 4 of #fall4transformation is all about perception. On my personal growth journey transformation really started to happen as I decided to shift my perception and opened up to see things differently. . When we open up and show willingness to learn and see the deeper meaning in our experiences, we have a huge opportunity to learn and overcome personal, mental, emotional and physical boundaries. . The Course in Miracles says “The mind is very powerful, and never loses its creative force. It never sleeps. Every instant it is creating. It is hard to recognize that thought and belief combine into a power surge that can literally move mountains.” . Meaning, we ALWAYS have a choice which experience we want to make whenever we face a challenging situation in life. . Brought into physical form, shifting of perception always happens for me in inversions. But less in ones that challenge me physically like handstands, forearm stand or any arm balances. The quality of this mindset shifting energy appears to me in more grounding, focussing and nourishing poses like headstand or shoulder stand. . Thus I chose todays pose to be #sarvangasalambasana #shoulderstand . And instead of showing this pose from the perceptors view, I wanted to capture it from the view of the practitioner. I am a Goddess!!! No really. Read on. Hiiiiiiiiiii!!!! I promise this hiatus has a really, really good explanation. Sooo I’ve been working all week and weekend (and every last second of my free time) as the LEAD state level coordinator for discharges at a medical shelter alongside US Public Health Service who are deployed here. They were commissioned by the state after hurricane Florence. I walked in sort of nervous, but soon found out crisis management is sort of exhilarating and I’m actually really good it! Which is how I became lead,and literally I’ve been directing my supervisor so I feel cool as heck! However, it’s been an exhausting week filled with 12 hour days. Recovery was pretty bad this week because I was so busy and everyone kept coming to me that I just couldn’t find the time to eat. I promise I’ll be better when this shelter closes sometime next week. - So yeah, I’m a Goddess Level social worker now and a force to be reckoned with. Boom.💥 #yoga #socialworker #slay
I worked hard for 5 long days in a row and was looking forward to a two days weekend off to rest and relax. But I woke up in pain coz my shoulder popped while sleeping on it last night. Not to mention the loud noises from our landlord removing carpets and installing hard floors upstairs. I had two choices: feel sorry for myself while complaining about all these nuances or seize the day, go to yoga and accept the things I can't control. I'm glad I chose the latter!😍 I'm grateful to my hubby @harvgneufeld for always making me my nectar (coffee) and being there for me, to my @oxygensaanich community and @raineyraiinsx_ for the amazing #hotyogafreedomflow this morning; giving me this #glow and of course, I thank myself for getting up and being a warrior. 😍 Now, off to find a good physiotherapist... one love long island coming together as one to lift each other up. If we could only find it in our hearts to practice this on a daily basis, remembering that we are all connected and all one with the Universe this world would be so much more peaceful. This morning driving to Sands Point for One love Long Island I was nervous about leading 6 out of 108 sun salutations ... then I got there and took a moment to take it all in... Deep breath that reminded me why i was here to begin with. It is so much bigger than my nerves and fears. Today was about getting together to lift up the world - vibrationally and financially supporting a great cause. Human trafficking is real and it's happening. Not only in 3rd world countries but everywhere. Kids are robbed of their childhood, little girls used for sexual pleasure. It's disturbing and heart wrenching but it's real and we can not pretend it's not there. I’m so happy my little girl has come home from her school trip! Turns out that Cara was absolutely amazing during her week away & did all of her insulin injections herself 😱 She also tried out body boarding, climbed trees & went hiking... At the beginning of the month, I had my doubts if I was capable of even doing #pinchamayurasana . I was really afraid I’d hurt my shoulders...or even just hurt myself falling! But...here I am a few weeks later making steady progress! I still hate the feeling of going over backwards, so I stick close to #paulthewall (or in this case #spencethefence 😉), and it’s far from perfect, but I’m doing it! And honestly, I am seeing how tackling these tough poses in my daily practice translates into confidence to tackle things I fear in other areas also. 🍂🍁🦋Transforming my fears🦋🍁🍂 Happy Saturday and welcome to day 6 of #Fall4Transformation challenge where we are focusing on the asanas that transform our fears. Uh, for me thats inversions with straight legs up🙈there is just so much fear in me when I bring the both legs up and I feel that feeling of effortless and no control🙊and I needed a lot of time, practice, patience and meditation in order to overcome it. A pose that transforms my fear is kapotasana. We’ll just refer to my relationship with this pose as the “kapo saga”. I added it back into my practice 2 weeks ago after having hurt myself months ago. My fear of hurting myself again and having to practice everyday with pain is the “demotivating” factor. I have found the courage to try again but now I am extremely careful and practice with a heightened sense of awareness in every pose I do. I am slower but everything feels better. Currently, I will only make 1 or 2 attempts before moving on and won’t push past grabbing my toes. Maybe next week?🤣🤣 My fear is slowly transforming, each day seems a bit better, or a little worse, but I know my limits and practice accordingly. I apologize for the crap quality of my photo and video but since the days are getting shorter and darker in the evening, I have some photo unfriendly lighting during my evening practices🤷‍♀️ (swipe for my real time practice video). Day 6 ( already?!?) #Fall4Transformation F E A R Today I chose to talk about overcome fear as a feeling and not about the fear of an certain asana. Fear and anxiety can last for a short time and then pass, but they can also last much longer and you can get stuck with them. In some cases they can take over your life, affecting your ability to eat, sleep, concentrate, travel, enjoy life, or even leave the house or go to work or socialize. This can hold you back from doing things you want or need to do, and it also affects your health. Lots of things make us feel afraid. Being afraid of some things can keep you safe. Fearing failure can make you try to do well so that you won’t fail, but it can also stop you doing well if the feeling is too strong. What you’re afraid of and how you act when you’re afraid of something will be different for each person. Just knowing what makes you afraid and why can be the first step to sorting out problems with fear. Sometimes the projections of situations will take from fear to anxiety. So how do we stop this cycle?? Warrior 2 is a posture that represents all the fighting against fear and anxiety for me. I don’t deny their existence, but I KNOW I CAN FACE AND FIGHT IT! I love the fundamental postures, they bring out our most raw side. And let’s face it: it is not extreme backbends what we do everyday on our mats. This is a PROUD posture, you are READY for whatever life is going to through on your path, you are ready to face it all. The body and mind are strong and open, in attitude of whatever comes out, I am facing it and dealing with it. I face my fears. Happy weekend, beautiful! S E T U | B A N D H A S A N A . Welcome to one of the more intense backbends of the Ashtanga practice! This one isn’t a deep backbend per se, but is intense because it can be quite scary for a lot of people. It’s definitely one of those that looks much harder than it actually is. . Setu bandhasana is the final pose of the Primary Series. I wouldn’t recommend trying this one for the first time without a teacher, as it’s important to get the setup correct. @kinoyoga has a great video on YouTube about the pose, and offers some modifications, like staying in the “prepare” for the posture, or keeping the arms down for support. Although my profile is currently under construction 🚧, I wanted to share a thought/ experience from when I first began my yoga journey. - - 💫 Uttanasana (Standing Forward Fold) was the first position I learned, and during this process, I used this pose to measure and determine my progress aka “how good I was getting”. If I could wrap my arms around my calves, that meant I was getting somewhere in my practice. 🤦🏽‍♀️ - - With this mind set, I experienced tons of frustration and conflict within myself which distracted me from the progress I truly was making.. and ultimately the whole point of yoga. Yoga is NOT a competitive sport. It is not a practice to be compared amongst others. It is for YOU, and you only. Being present, allowing and accepting of your practice today, is truly all that matters. Just a sweet reminder to all yogis, of all experience levels 💕💫

I remember one of my teachers told me that one day I’d get a little lift and then both legs would lift off the ground. I thought it sounded impossible! But it happened today... the lift only happened once. I tried several times today... I also was interrupted but Salem sticking his butt in my face.
