Every chance he gets he’s reading!! I love their love of books 📚
See ya later Big Ted! It was fun to see you grow from a tadpole into this handsome wee frog. Not so much fun crawling around the bedroom in the middle of the night trying to catch you when you escaped from the tank though! Enjoy life in the big pond! 🐸
Your job as a parent is to make the best choice for your family in this moment. It is not your job to make other people (family included) feel good about those choices.
If you need support or a tribe, I am here for you, and so is this amazing community. 💚
is when a five year old can make a plan to buy a plant, research where to buy a plant and how to care for the plant, get her purchase approved through the community budget board, schedule a trip to the store, negotiate with friend how to share said plant and FINALLY have your plant in your arms at school. 👏🏻❤️ So many opportunities to practice patience, love and care. And also math, time management, communication, navigation, writing, etc etc etc... #freetolearn #trustkids #facilitatelearningdontforceit
We try to get outside as much as possible for us, so we decided to join the #150hoursoutside
project and see how much time we can spend outside this year! ✨
We hit up one of our favourite spots and managed only forty minutes before we had to retire out of the rain, for tea and cake! ☔
Spent the morning finishing off some English work and doing maths and then off to their session at Zero Gravity doing gymnastics 🤸♀️ trampolining and parkour. Now the boy’s at a friends and my daughter has her friend over and they’re about to make smoothies 😋😋😋
I was scrolling through photos somewhat aimlessly last night. Maddie stopped me at this one, not remembering where we were at. 🤔 But I remember this one like it was yesterday! This was taken while we were in Yosemite National Park almost exactly 3 years ago. 🏔 This trip changed everything! In one of the first chapters of The 5 Hour School Week book I write about this trip! The hiking, talking to rangers and making some incredible memories ✨ If you’ve read the book, you know what happens next! 🤗 It never escapes me that it only takes a moment! A trip, a hike, an opportunity, a conversation, a single moment can shift your thinking in such a way that you step through fear and finally make big change! 💥 In a moment you can have clarity where once there was only confusion, in one moment you can go from living a mediocre life to living the life you were created for! 🙌 Recognize the moments and don’t let them pass! If a new direction is knocking at your door: ANSWER IT! 🥰

This is the part I couldn't imagine when I first started entertaining the thought of educating my children at home... multiple grade levels and lessons at once! One is working on @thegoodandthebeautiful
Kindergarten math, one on @thegoodandthebeautiful
Language Arts, and the other on a @mathusee
math lesson. I don't have a set schedule for when I work with each child... I just adapt day to day depending on the lessons. Sometimes it's frustrating. Sometimes one child is whining. Sometimes I have to send one child to play or read while I focus on another. BUT, in the years I have been doing this, I have seen the children blossom, and I am more and more reassured that we are right where God wants us to be. 💕
F R E E D O M : That’s the number one reason we do this homeschool thing. The freedom to do it our own way, in whatever way that’s best for them. We do it for the freedom to follow their passions/interests/hobbies, the freedom to slow down or speed up, the freedom to skip or shelf something. In this picture, I’m loving the freedom these kids have to wear jammies to “school” or lay completely across the table while they compete to organize linear equivalents. 😂
Classical Conversations is an international tutorial program (not a drop off program) that is comprised of individual campuses/communities but we all follow the same curriculum each year at basically the same time (give or take a week or two depending on when we all start). But, there is still freedom even with in the structure. As a tutor (=teacher), I have the freedom of how I present the material each week and, at home, our families have the freedom to review the weeks’ material any way that works for them. They don’t have to copy me or any of the other tutors/teachers from community day. Lots of families prefer to sing everything to a tune to help them memorize the material. Some “act” it out. For example, I used hand motions to help us learn some types of rocks today. Some bring in the kinesiology to help the squiggly kiddos. Today, we did squats, wall sits, and jumping jacks to help us remember the Latin noun cases...would that make Latin more fun for your kids? 😬
I lead the 10-11yr olds which are competitive by nature. They had a blast organizing the linear equivalents in teams...who knew comparing centimeters and inches could be so fun?!?! 🥰
It felt so good to rejoin our homeschool community today!! We knew when we set off on our travels this would be something we’d miss greatly & we were right! Thankful we’re able to soak up the best of both worlds now!
Some kids are nervous about standing up in front of their class to share their weekly presentations, but not this little man. He would stand up there all day talking if you’d let him! 😂 #extrovert #homeschoolkids
Un premier billet sur le blog Savants Sauvages (lien dans ma bio) pour réfléchir au rôle que joue la Table des Saisons dans notre maison.
We thought we would try out a library we’ve never been to before, today. All sat with a book, in peace. 🤗
I listened to the most incredible podcast last week. @edmylett
speaking with legend @johnmaxwellteam
and there is one thing that keeps resonating with me as I walk through this week: “All good things are uphill, but we are people with downhill habits.” 🙌
The human experience is created to be difficult, the terrain is rocky, steep, and often we come unprepared 🏔 I’ve embraced that we will never truly “arrive”, that we will just continue to dig in deep and climb! I’m even getting better at finding the habits that make it more enjoyable and keep me motivated. 🤗
Surrounding myself with the people who believe in me, encourage me and simultaneously climb their own massive mountains has become #1
It never escapes me that little people are watching. Evaluating my every step. Watching who cheers for me, and climbs WITH me compared to who stays down at the base. 🤔
Dig in deep, take that next hard step, and bring your biggest cheerleader! Because it’s time to raise kids who understand that it’s ALL UPHILL but are prepared with UPHILL HABITS!
What does your classroom look like? For us, it’s sometimes a cosy cottage with inspiring chalkboard art and a blank page with a myriad of ideas of what to fill it with. Sometimes it’s sitting on the branch of a much older tree than you looking up at an endless sky ceiling feeling peace & wonder & gratitude for having the space to dream up the ideas to fill the aforementioned blank page with. Everyday we like to do both.
Absolutely loving these paint pens 😍 I bought them for Nico for his birthday but all 3 have really enjoyed them 🧡 when the paints ran out you just unscrew the end and fill it back up!
