Every other Monday during summer session at @seattleculinaryacademy
, we venture out to Washington’s breadbasket, the Skagit Valley, to visit a different local producer or purveyor and learn about their practices and processes. A couple of weeks ago, we toured @bowhillblueberries
, Ralphs Greenhouse-Mt Vernon, and @vivafarms.
We learned about organic farming and various value-add blueberry products at Bow Hill, picked and took home fresh-from-the-ground kale and carrots from Ralph’s, and toured Washington's first non-profit, bilingual, comprehensive farm incubator - Viva Farms - whose mission is to launch a new generation of farmers by helping to provide land, equipment, infrastructure, farm management training, and marketing support.
Tomorrow we’re off to @hedlinfamilyfarms
, and @cedargrovecompost
