White-tail at the Licking Branch⠀ White-tailed Deer Buck (Odocoileus virginiauns)⠀ Cades Cove - Great Smoky Mountains National Park (Nov. 9, 2013)⠀ ⠀ FLASHBACK FRIDAY: On the eve of fall, it got me excited for the rut to start in the Cove. I haven't been out in a while, and I'm needing a trip. This was in November 2013, and this big buck was guarding his licking branch on a chilly, frosty morning. A smaller buck came over to the branch and began to scrape. This big guy quickly came running, forcing the younger buck out. He then made sure everything was his, before moving on. I can't wait for it all to start this year!⠀ ⠀ Feel free to share.⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ #naturephotography #greatsmokymountainsnationalpark #findyourpark #greatsmokymountains #smokymountains #cadescove #cadescovephotography #cadescovephoto #whitetaileddeer #deer #buck #lickingbranch #rut #antlers #flashbackfriday #tennesseewild #tnwild #tennesseephotography #naturaltennessee #outdoorphotography #865life #outdoors #awesomeearth #friendsofthesmokies #canonphotography #canon #canonphoto #canonusa #outdoorlife #explore
“Sunset is the start of something beautiful: the night.” - Juansen Dizon Yet another #Sunset at #ClingmansDome #greatsmokymountains #smokies #madeintn #friendsofthesmokies #instagramtennessee #gsmnp #findyourpark #nationalpark
After a late afternoon hike I was going to stay up at #clingmansdome for sunset. As usual it was fogged in. I decided to hightail it to mortons overlook. About halfway down clingmans dome road i got below the clouds and I looked to my left and saw this awesomeness! 😀 . . . . ..#smokyshiker #gsmnp #nationalparkgeek #visitncsmokies #brysoncity #visitgatlinburg #gatlinburg #greatsmokymountains #865life #surftennessee #lovencsmokies #naturaltennessee #friendsofthesmokies #trailful #adventureappalachia #instagramtennessee #tristaradventures   #thenationalparkspass #visitmysmokies #national_park_photography #nationalparklife #smphoto15 #goremote #cadescove #hiketn #national_park_photography #onlyintennessee
Forney Creek Trail, Great Smoky Mountains National Park, North Carolina . https://goo.gl/maps/VLr5yBVNdLF2 . (Okay, no trail signs today. But I can't move past Forney Creek without mention of the numerous and difficult creek crossings, the first of which when heading downhill is marked on the Google map. No footbridges here until the junction with Jonas Creek Trail. I have marked them as well as I can remember on the National Geographic map, and keep in mind the crossings get more difficult as you move further downstream. Bonus waterfall picture and video.) . #hiking #hikingadventures #hikingtrail #hikingtrails #trail #trails #trailsign #trailsigns #smokymountains #greatsmokymountains #greatsmokymountainsnationalpark #gsmnp #smokies #friendsofthesmokies #forneycreektrail

This week’s #waterfallwednesday flows in from the Great Smoky Mountains. ••••• Thanks to Jerry @jerrykingphotography for the wonderful view. ・・・ Is this a brook, branch, creek, crick, stream or something else? Bodies of water like this are called by a variety of names depending on who you ask. • • #greatsmokymountains #nationalparkservice #friendsofthesmokies #roaringforkmotornaturetrail #mountains #themountainsarecalling #865life #homesweettn #optoutside #nationalparkexplorer #exploreyourbackyard #findyourpark #naturephotography #landscapephotography #nikonnofilter #madewithmefoto #visitmysmokies #visitgatlinburg #gatlinburg #tnvacation #hiking #waterfall #cascade ——- #nationalparkgeek

“Sweet Dreams” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Cades Cove, Tennessee is a magical place. If you have never been, I highly suggest it. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ An 11-mile loop road meanders through the Cove in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. You never know what you will see, but it probably will be a black bear. I’ve also seen deer, turkeys, coyotes, a bobcat, and other wildlife. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This little fellow enjoyed filling his tummy until he got plum tired and took a nap in the crook of this tree. After a short snooze, he was right back at it! I love watching his ears twitch. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ He picked a good tree right off the loop road where he put on a show for all those passing by. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #CadesCove #GreatSmokyMountainsNationalPark #GSMNP #blackbears #wildlife #nationalparkgeek #national_park_photography #live_love_wildlife #seewildlife #WildlifeiG @wildlife.hd #wildlifeplanet #wildlifeaddicts_ #wildlifeonearth #wildplanet #ig_masterpiece #1natureshot #country_features #renegade_rural #marvelshots #big_shotz @planetfervor #theIMAGED @wildgeography #amazing_shots @discovery.hd

(Repost) Who's ready for those cold mornings? 🥶🥶 . I'm not sure why but I still love this photo. I didn't know anything about photography, and I just snapped this photo one morning in Cade's Cove. I don't even know what this photo was taken with. 🤣😂 . #instagramtennessee #tristaradventures #865life #nationalparkgeek #gsmnp #greatsmokymountainsnationalpark #greatsmokymountains #gatlinburg #tnvacation #tn #tennessee #visittennessee #onlytennisee #knsreaderseye #homesweettn #onlyintennessee #WBIR #10news #naturaltennessee #madeintn #visitgatlinburg #worldshares #visitpigeonforge #friendsofthesmokies #fromusgatlinburg
Cataloochee Valley, Great Smokey Mnts National Park. Elk had been missing from the mountains for two centuries before their 2001 reintroduction. The original elk herd came from Elk Island National Park in Alberta, Canada to NC. There are now about 180.
On top of Ole Smoky. #clingmansdome
Some time back I informed everyone that I, on occasion, retreat to my perch in the sky. This is that spot, I was there again recently.
Do remember. When constructing your roof mounted water tank, make sure it resembles a bazooka. #hondaelement

I’ve always been drawn to mountain streams..they are healing in a deep and powerful way that literally pours from the depths and spills bright and cold and fresh into the sunlight. . Take some time this week to get outside. Take a stroll. Breathe. Give thanks. . Perhaps, head to the mountains.... . This beautiful spot can be found along the Oconaluftee Trail in the #GreatSmokyMountainsNationalPark . . The trail itself is a pleasant walk along the Oconaluftee River. . The term "Oconaluftee" comes from the Cherokee word "egwanulti", which means "by the river," a reference to one of the oldest Cherokee villages that was once located along its banks. . Over time European settlers corrupted the Cherokee word in both pronunciation and spelling, and as a result, the word became Oconaluftee, and eventually grew to mean the name of the river itself. . Long ago the park service spread gravel along the trail as a result of the large number of visitors that hike this path. The Oconaluftee River Trail is also one of two trails in the park in which visitors can walk #dogs and ride bicycles (the Gatlinburg Trail is the other). . As the #trail meanders along the river bank, it travels under the canopy of eastern hemlock, red maple, yellow buckeye, beech, sycamore, white basswood, dogwood and tuliptrees, among other varieties. . In addition, more than 40 species of #wildflowers have been identified along this route, making this an outstanding choice for a hike during the spring or fall. . During the springtime hikers can find several varieties of trillium and violets, jack-in-the-pulpit, purple phacelia, squirrel corn, stonecrop, phlox and crested dwarf iris, among many other varieties. . During the #autumn asters are the main attraction in this area of the park. . In total, the trail travels for roughly 1.5 miles before ending at the national park boundary in Cherokee. A simple, easy, #healinghike 🌿 💚 . #enjoythejourney #hopeandhealing #foresttherapy #creation #riverwalk #healing #hike #lifecoach #getoutside #livewell #forestbathing #tennessee #hikemore #instagramtennessee #friendsofthesmokies
