100,000 people protest in Tel Aviv over anti-LGBT discrimination.
Nationwide rallies and strikes demanding equal surrogacy rights for gay men culminate in mass rally.
Israelis packed into Tel Aviv’s Rabin Square on Sunday night to protest the exclusion of gay couples from a recently passed surrogacy law which extendeds eligibility to single women, but not to men, effectively preventing gay men couples from having a child via a surrogate.
Gay rights advocates and their supporters observed an unprecedented one-day strike earlier on Sunday, and large demonstrations were held in major cites across Israel.
The protests have generated widespread support and hundreds of Israeli companies said they would allow their employees to attend the various demonstrations on Sunday without penalty.
Some companies said they would contribute funds to help gay couples forced to seek surrogacy abroad.
Today is Tisha B’Av, the day we mark the destruction of the holy temple in Jerusalem due to unjustified hatred.
Today is also an historic day for Israeli LGBTQ’s. Tonight over 100,000 people demonstrate in Rabin Square after an official strike day in Israel in the fight to grant human rights to the LGBT’s of Israel and allow them to get married legally in the state of Israel and adopt or bear children of their own.
This Tisha B’Av we support equality for everyone everywhere, unjustified hatred and discrimination are not Jewish values!
