I first met Keith Sykes when I was making a film about my late uncle, Denny Lile. (Keith and his wife Jerene were so kind and helpful to me.) Keith had worked as Uncle Dennis' publisher from the mid-70s on. During that time, he managed to get Denny's song, "Fallin' Out," in front of @officialwaylon
- which later became a top ten hit for the country music legend. Naturally, Keith was on my shortlist of people to interview for the film.
I soon learned that Keith was much more than a publisher. He had been a successful solo artist, a member of @jimmybuffett
's Coral Reefer band (co-writer of "Volcano"), and was rubbing elbows with people like @bonnieraittofficial
, Kris Kristofferson and Guy Clark. Just this year, @john_prine
recorded one of Keith's tunes, which also happened to feature @jasonisbell
When Keith called me a few months ago and asked me to build an amp for him, I was thrilled on so many levels. It's funny how things shake out. I wish uncle Dennis were around to see this, but maybe he knows. I hope you enjoy this amp for many years, Keith. Grateful, and proud to know you, Keith.
