243 years of service. Happy birthday, Army! #armybday
Happy Birthday to the US Army. 243 years strong. “Wars may be fought with weapons, but they are won by men. It is the spirit of the men who follow and of the man who leads that gains the victory.”
Gen. George S. Patton
הקשיבו לאדם שבחר באופן מתמיד בקשה😉 #keepitsimple #simple #generalpatton #be #being

Today 6th June, marks the anniversary of the D Day Landings, that changed the course of history.
Did you know the Jamaica Inn, like many other buildings around the Country, played a small part in World War Two?
The famous American General, Patton stayed at the inn around 24th June 1944 for a few days.
I wonder which haunted room he stayed in?
He was used to fool the Germans into believing that the Landings would take place at Calais with Patton involved as the Commanding Officer.
At that time, there were over 8000 US troops stationed and billeted around Bodmin Moor.
Bodmin Moor was used for Army Exercises and King George VI visited Bolventer on his way to watch one at nearby Camelford. He stayed for lunch in a Big Marquee in one of the nearby fields.
I wonder if the Inn provided the food for that lunch?
On 25th June 1944, Patton drove to Exeter Station to pick up General Dwight Eisenhower.
Then in a field behind the Inn, below Brown Willy Hill, the US Regiments that were stationed nearby, were inspected by Patton, Eisenhower and General Paul Baade, with Regimental Commander Colonel Grant Laying.
We all owe some much to the soldiers from many nations that fought and died for our freedom in World War Two.
Let us never forget the sacrifice made
