If not eating food that I’ve prepared and sourced myself in the comfort of my own kitchen, a farm-to-table or in this case a sea-to-table lunch or dinner is my preferred form of eating whenever possible.
It is always best to eat and and enjoy the local and reject the global. Local and ancestral eating, the manner in which our Paleolithic ancestors foraged and hunted is a gateway to wellbeing as it is in line with the way nature intended us to feed ourselves.
I always ask myself two questions prior to eating: “Could I hunt it?” and “Could I pick it?”. A half dozen oysters, ceviche with tostones, and a lobster roll with lettuce to replace the bun was all pickable and huntable and made a perfect late lunch by the bay at The Standard. On top of that it was “happy hour” so, perfectly discounted as well!

My personal favorite is the portobella pizza but all of these are great fun options you can make at home. Get crazy with it and add some fun toppings of choice! Info below:⠀
Bell pepper pizza - 1/2 bell pepper, 1/4 cup marinara sauce, 2 tbsp mozzarella cheese + 2 broccoli florets.⠀
Portable pizza - 1/2 Portabella mushroom cap, 1/4 cup marinara sauce, 2 tbsp mozzarella cheese, 2 basil leaves, 1 olive cut into slices.⠀
Zucchini pizza boats - 1/2 zucchini, 1/4 cup marinara sauce, 2 tbsp mixed cheese, 2 cherry tomatoes.⠀
Rice cake pizza - 1 rice cake, 1/4 cup marinara sauce, 2 basil leaves, 2 tbsp mozzarella cheese.⠀
Pita pizza - 1 medium pita, 1/4 cup marinara sauce, 2 tbsp mozzarella cheese, 2 basil leaves + 3 cherry tomatoes.⠀
Pizza pizza - Ordered from the doughroom in Culver City haha Because sometimes you can treat yo self to a damn real pizza.⠀
How to cook the veggie pizzas:⠀
1 - Preheat oven to 350F.⠀
2 - Scoop out the inside of the mushroom, bell pepper or zucchini boat (you can cook the bell pepper or zucchini in oven before adding toppings or add toppings then cook if you don’t need it well done. Mushroom you can add the toppings right away & cook) ⠀
3 - Add 1/4 cup marinara, toppings & cheese⠀
4 - Bake in oven for about 10 minutes then enjoy!⠀
You can bake the pita & rice cake in oven or you can microwave xoxo.

Been a little off my fitstagram game lately. Trying to get the hang of this adulting thing makes for busy busy days. Anywayyyy this morning I had an appointment with good ole Betty. I like to call her my life coach because Betty knows all. She asked how I’ve been eating lately to which I said welllll umm about that...(thinking about the skittles and seeds I bought on the way to work yesterday and the 7 cookies my brother baked that I ate a few nights ago). Her response was when I’m stressed and busy and need to pick up my food on the way to my next destination to trade the fast food trip in for a trip to Trader Joe’s. And as always Betty convinced me. Stopped by Trader Joe’s and picked up a delicious salad, an rxbar, and also a cold brew because I couldn’t resist. 😜☕️

I have always disliked the word diet as to me it has always implied “taking away something you want”. I don’t know if it comes down to the little kid in me but having something taken away from you that you LOVE never feels good. In fact it makes me want it more!!
The same goes for food! The thought of never eating something again makes me crave it like crazy. Also the thought of measuring everything I eat makes me literally mental! Being a busy working mom of two, there is no room for that.
So here is what I have found works for me and something I can do for a lifetime. It comes down to INTENTIONAL EATING. Choosing food that I know fuels me and helps me live the life I really want. Instead of thinking of food as not fun, I think if it as feeding my soul. I want to eat properly so that my mind is the sharpest it can be, so that I have the energy to do all the activities I want, so that I can live a long life hopefully free of many medications and basically I can live my life TO THE MAX while I have the privilege of being here. Once you start to value our body and what it can do for you, it changes your perspective on eating.
Now don’t get me wrong...I love my wine and some pretty indulgent meals but I just don’t have them all the time. When I do indulge I enjoy them fully and know that I deserved it. We only live once so why not enjoy it all just choose wisely. You are worth it!
Finally the really cool thing is once you start making better choices you feel so good that you don’t want to go back to your old ways! WHATS YOUR POST WORKOUT ROUTINE?
As always, it’s kind of a loaded question. Mine is highly variable. It all depends on what time i exercise, the type of workout, as well as my schedule after and even the next day.
Lately, due to jui jitsu, traveling and self indulging in east coast culinary treasures like pizza, pierogies and kiffles, Inflammation is having a field day over here player.

It’s been killer for quelling inflammation quickly after a workout while still simulating a fasted state without a blood glucose response.
I’ve also been dropping into my nighttime tea to increase my sleep quality. 🍵
HERE ARE OTHER POST WORKOUT SCENARIOS:
1. Many times I’ll fast for at least an hour afterwards to get the best of my body’s inflammatory response / hormesis.
2. If I have too much going on that day, or I know I’m gonna be pushing it hard the next day, ill refuel quicker to capitalize on the increase of glucose transporters. 💪🏻

I can remember the first time I took a bite of an avocado. I expected to be hard, like an apple. But the soft and smooth structure melted in my mouth... And I hated it! I thought it had no taste at all.

I wasn't sure where I was going with this 😅 but it turned out delicious! .
1/2 avocado mashed with cilantro, splash of lime juice and salt.
Sweet potatoes (Oregano, paprika, garlic, salt) diced and cooked in a skillet on med low heat for about 15 minutes.
Scrambled eggs with cayenne.
Pickled cucumbers, shredded carrots, garlic, jalapenos, shallot, radishes.
Queso fresco for the finish.
