“What are you expecting God to teach you?” my mentor asked me every year at the leadership school I attended throughout high school.⠀
I remember hating that question - I said it was because I felt like it was putting God in a box - but really it was just because I never had an answer.⠀
But one year, I came prepared. And that was the year I saw God show up more clearly than at any other event. It wasn’t the way I expected, but it was clear. ⠀
Why did I see Him at that event more clearly than the others? ⠀
Because I was ready. ⠀
Because I was expecting.⠀
Here’s the thing, no matter how hard we try, we can’t put God in a box. He’s just not boxable. But we can box ourselves up from seeing Him.⠀
This question isn’t about telling God how to show up, it’s telling ourselves to be on the lookout for how God will show up. It’s us saying, “God, I believe you want to show yourself to me so I’m looking for you in ________ way.”⠀
In February, I gave God 100 days to show me how my life make sense (I know, a human giving God an ultimatum isn’t an encouraged “christian” practice, but I was desperate). As far as I can tell those 100 days stretched into 300-something days of Him showing me that He was the God who goes before - not what I expected, but certainly clear and comforting.⠀
I say all that to invite you to an all-girls gathering on January 1st in New Towne Williamsburg VA from 630-830pm to share how God showed Himself to us in 2018 and pray about how we’ll see Him in our lives in 2019. ⠀
If you can make it, let me know on a scale of 1-10 how excited you are in the comments!⠀
First time playing golf like : "oh, hold up...
gotta work on my swing,
gotta do my own thing..."🏌🏾♀️
(if you don’t get the reference we can’t be friends i’m sorry lol, jk but i hope you get it)
“Christian hope is BOLD…Biblical hope is not optimism based on the odds, it’s a choice to wait on God to bring about a future that is as surprising as a crucified man rising from the dead. Christian hope looks back to the risen Jesus in order to look forward.”
We don’t know about you, but THIS is the kind of hope we want to stake our lives in. This is the sweet spot of life. This is where peace lives and we breathe deeply. This is where the good stuff happens.
Tag a gal who needs to be reminded that THIS is the hope our God offers us. 🙌🏻

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
Well, it's only 10 days until Christmas…so you know what that means! Run around, buy the gifts, bake the cookies, hang the lights, dress to impress, photograph the family, send the cards, ship the packages, eat the treats, attend the parties, drink the nog, fill the stockings, one for the dog, put on the music, fill your home with cheer, kiss your husband under the mistletoe, because Christmas time is here! 🎄
Are you tired yet? Because I'm tired from even writing all that! All of this holiday hustle and bustle has me thinking a lot about Martha and Mary. Because let's be honest, this is a Martha-y season. As much as we talk about Jesus being the reason for the season, in our hustle and bustle culture, He tends to get a bit lost. ✨
Well, let this be your public service announcement in this season, my friends. JESUS coming to the earth is what this is ALL about! So, how can we make time in this Christmas season to remember who its all for. How can we take the time to just sit at His feet and worship this season? 🙌🏻
This week, I've been thinking a lot about the alabaster jar of perfume Mary brought to Jesus's feet. Perhaps her most valued and treasured possession, and she brought it to Him, broke it open, and poured it out on her Savior and King. What is my most valued possession? My time? My money? My home? How can I break it open and pour it out on Him in this season? Do I need to be "giving" more than I am "gifting" in this season? How can I make time to sit at His feet and weep with Him? Am I so busy "making Christmas" that I am not taking time to thank the one who brought His light into the world? Have I asked Him what He wants from me for His birthday this year? 🙏🏻
As we hustle through this time, may we all take a moment to remember to bring our alabaster worship to Jesus first and foremost in this holy season of Advent. I believe there is an invitation in this time to be counter-cultural as Christ followers. To rest in this great gift of Christmas. To worship with all our hearts, souls, mind and strength, and maybe this year to do a little bit less. What can you strip away this year to make more time for worshipping Jesus? 💕

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified. - Romans 8:28-30

"Sin will rarely present itself to us in its true colors, saying 'I am your deadly enemy and want to ruin you forever in hell.'" - J.C. Ryle
Lately I’ve been reflecting on change. While reflecting, I’ve noticed I have a pattern;
1. I see change coming.
2. I try to resist change.
3. Change is inevitable and happens despite my resisting.
4. I accept change.
5. I grow from said change.
6. I live a happier and more fulfilling life.
The reason why change is so scary for me is because it requires that I step out of my comfort zone AKA, the cushy life that I’ve made for myself. With change comes uncertainty which for a type-a, (some would say unhealthily) organized planner, uncertainty is not where I like to dwell.
I’ve been through several transitionary periods in my life (moving to college, getting married, changing jobs). In hindsight, I’ve learned that change is actually an *opportunity* to grow and step out in faith. Without being confronted with change, we would live stagnant lives, not able to challenge our habits or grow as human beings.
I’ve also found that when I’m in a transitional period, I am most receptive to the *stability* that is Christ. It is in these moments that I grow in deeper relationship with Him because I am able to lean on Him. The beauty of Jesus is that He does not change even when our circumstances do.
So, if you are going through a transitional time in your life, know that this is an opportunity to grow and learn. Find comfort that the Lord is right there with you, unchanging in His love for you.
xo dear June - an excerpt from S E A O F L O V E ⠀
My Mom raised me in an environment where individuality and creativity were encouraged above everything else. I was often asked questions like, "how will anyone be able to know your beauty if you won’t accept it yourself?” I was taught that different isn’t just acceptable it’s expected. This wasn’t always easy and definitely felt like I was swimming against the current sometimes, and yet I grew to not only understand what it means to love myself but to also enjoy that never ending process.⠀
God made you by His design and in His image (check out Genesis 1:27). Now hear me out, if you struggle with self-image or insecurities this post is not to shame you or make you feel alone for having those thoughts. Rather, I am saying that whether you are a woman, man, wife, husband, friend, single, or in a relationship. You are beautiful. And even on the days that you don’t love yourself, God does. Always. He looks at what you consider imperfect, ugly, embarrassing, and He goes “I made that”. It is absolutely okay to have bad days. To get frustrated with insecurities or to feel self-conscious. Those feelings are what make you human. But let the authority of the Father and His never-ending admiration and appreciation for every inch of you to condemn those thoughts. Let His view of you mold your own.⠀
It's the time of year for celebrating with family and friends the birth of our Saviour, and with that is mind I'm taking a short holiday from this page. Have a wonderful Christmas and I will see you back here soon.

🌟Have you done this before, going to your favorite store, and asking for your Christmas freebie or discount? Or looked through the catalogue for shops having Christmas sale? I admit I have done that too!
🌟Unfortunately, Christmas has been equated to freebies, promos, commercials and ads. The malls are out to woo buyers, make more sales and cash in. Businesses see Christmas as a time to reward loyal customers.
🌟For others, it is simply a time to remember those less privileged. Don’t get me wrong some of all these stuff are good.
🌟But Christmas is more than a social work.
🌟It is beyond shopping at cheaper rates or selling at discounted prices. It is beyond the sparkly decorated trees, fences and homes.
⭐It is more than the carols and the yearly Joseph and Mary and the star story. .
🌟Christmas is not another Corporate Social Responsibility.
Christmas is more than wrapped gifts under trees or surprise gifts to random strangers.

🌟 A question for you😊 What does Christmas mean to you?

God knew you before you were born, your complexity and your identity. You are fearfully and wonderfully made. You are not a mistake or accident. Whether you know your daddy or not , this didn’t just happen. You were sent here. Not a year earlier or later but right on time. You’re on a mission. Out of all the things Abraham did and all he accomplished in his barrenness he birthed something. It wasn’t about him. It was about him having a son, that one kid! That one “the seed of the promise. God loves you now... he always has loved you even before you were born. ⠀
Psalm 139:15-16 David speaking “my frame was not hidden from you, when I was made in secret, and skillfully wrought in the lowest part of the earth. Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed and in your book they were all written the days fashioned for me, when as yet there were none of them” before you were born God knew your identity.⠀
As God was forming you he was loving you. No one touched you or loved you before God did. From all eternity we are hidden we are hidden in the shadow of Gods hand and engrained on his palm. Before any human being touches us God forms us in secret, before any human being decides about us God knits us together in our mothers womb. In his infinite wisdom and power even as he designs us for our days he designs our days for us, writing them in his book before any of them come to pass.
Finally seeing the finish line as I come down to single digits of custom bibles left to paint. 🙌🏼 Love the bright pop of colors coming off this design.
I am guilty of this. We make time for what we want to make time for. Actions express priorities 💯
Today, on the 13th day of Advent, we invite you to look back over the last year and recognize how you've grown in your faith. Are you being transformed, becoming more like Jesus?
Let's thank God for how he's been working in our lives, and pray that our faith grows stronger and deeper in the coming year.
Hey, it's Friday! I can't believe how close we are to Christmas! It's like eleven more days, right!!! Are you ready for Christmas? I'm almost ready, haha 😂
It's been awhile since I've I showed my face around here so I figured it's time for a little Friday introduction for you all 😄 This Friday introduction is gonna be Christmas edition!
I thought I'd share with you all some of my favorite things about Christmas! 🎄
~ I LOVE Christmas music! But you have to wait untill the day after Thanksgiving to start listening to it. I'm that kind of person 😝
~ My favorite Christmas tradition is going to the Christmas tree farm to pick out a tree. My family has only been doing this tradition for three years. I can never go back to having a fake tree. There is nothing like having a fresh cut tree in your house 😊🌲
~ The weirdest Christmas tradition my family does is Christmas breakfast in our stockings. I have no idea where this tradition came from but we've always done it. Each year in our stockings we get lots of candy and breakfast snacks 😋
~ You can always find me hanging out at coffee shops after a day of holiday shopping. My favorite holiday drink is the chestnut praline latte. There is a small coffee shop in my town that makes a smoked pecan maple sage latte and it is amazing!!!!
~I really enjoy Christmas shopping! It's so fun to shop for other people. I do most of my shopping online each year. It's just easier to find the perfect gift for everyone and thank the Lord for free two day shipping!
~Each day I am reminded that Jesus is the reason for the season! We always read the Christmas story before opening presents to be reminded of the best gift that was ever given, Jesus. Christmas is a wonderful time to think of all that God has done.
I'd love to hear some of your favorite things about Christmas. Let me know in the comments. Have a happy Friday!

CHRISTMAS EVE: 5:00p & 6:30p
"Surely everyone is aware of the divine pleasures which attend a wintry fireside; candles at four o’clock, warm hearthrugs, tea, a fair tea-maker, shutters closed, curtains flowing in ample draperies to the floor, whilst the wind and rain are raging audibly without." - Thomas de Quincey
As it turns out, I'm realizing I actually like winter. What I don't like is that our society doesn't observe winter. Winter is a time for slowing down, for turning inward, for reflection, for rest. Our world keeps moving and doesn't stop for winter. In Calgary, we never have a snow day. Raging snow storm? We still expect you to be at work today even though the route that normally takes 20 mins now takes 2 hours and quite literally risks your life. These are some awful things of winter.
But here is what I love about winter:
- layers and cozy sweaters to hide in
- acceptable reason to stay home more, less expectation or pressure to be OUT and doing things (I'm looking at you, Summer, where I feel constant pressure)
- sleeping under the delicious weight and warmth of multiple heavy blankets
- soft lighting in the dark
- the way it feels when you come in from the cold
- hot drinks hot drinks hot drinks
Everyone loves to hate winter and while I am not sure I can yet say I love winter (Autumn will always have my heart, no matter how basic that makes me) I am learning that there's lots of good things about it, with the right perspective. I know it's a metaphor for life that I'm going to be pondering a lot during this season.
What things do you like about winter?
What is an “Invisible Crown”?
You have the potential each day to get out of bed and...
A.) Float through the day passively. Go through the motions. Check things off of the mandatory to-do list. Interact with the people you are required to interact with. Consume what other people offer, and react to what other people do.
B.) March ahead with clear goals. Do the mundane activities with joy. Check things off of the to-do list and then ask “What else can I do?” Interact with as many people as possible, even those outside of your comfort zone. Create inspiration for other people to consume and choose how you speak versus reacting emotionally.
Your Invisible Crown is living into option B! Realizing that each day is a gift and you are in charge of being your best self, no one else can make that decision for you. We are not guaranteed tomorrow- so don’t wait for tomorrow to be a better person. Let’s polish up our crowns TODAY, rise up as the children of God that we were designed to be, and wear our invisible crowns boldly!
Along the way, you will inevitably help someone else discover theirs. 👑
