A year ago today I was laying on my sofa utterly defeated, feeling like a failure having dropped out of the Hitchin Hard Half Marathon. Swipe ⬅️ for the picture collage hubby made me to cheer me up. ————————————————— I decided in April this year that I’d try again so booked a spot. I hadn’t decided for sure that I was going to run it until last week. I am definitely not where I want to be yet stamina and pace wise. I know I can do 13.1 miles but hills and heat are not my forte! —————————————————
Yesterday was brutal, there is a hill at mile 2 that pretty much takes you to mile 3. It is like Everest ⛰ every time you think you’ve made it to the top there’s more. The heat was killer and the balance between hydration and over hydration is hard to judge. The views were incredible and the down hill stretches greatly appreciated! —————————————————
I flipping well conquered it 🏃🏽♀️ I cried over the finish line a mixture of exhaustion and pride. 2 hours 37 minutes and so SO proud. Now I can park it and return when I’m faster and stronger, at least 3 years from now.

Monday Runday, with @shellie0055
and a pit stop for a crepe and a pimms (or two, or three). We ran the last mile like phoebe from friends and laughed and giggled the whole way home. Love my friends, love the time we spend together, love the chats, love them for keeping me grounded and sane and talking sense into me most the time. Happy Days.
P.s it’s hot out there 😬
Find yourself an #OCR
fam like mine and hold on to them. Find those that’ll support you, push you, help train you, celebrate you and who understand the crazy mindset you have to be in to be willing to run multiple races not only in a month, but in a weekend. Thankful for these ones and the fun we always have.💪🏻 Can’t wait to take on the rugged maniac this weekend with them! •
Also, it’s #medalmonday
and I normally don’t participate, but I had a successful weekend and I’m going to toot my horn a bit.

Monday's workout is in the book's. Light chest, biceps and 1 mile run. If its one thing I've learned as I've gotten older and that is to not push the body harder than it wants to go. I have nothing to prove in the gym, that's what they were called when I started working out yrs ago. 😆 Now their fitness centers 🤔😊 I'm not 25 years old anymore trying to impress someone in the weight room. I know I'm in better shape than most people my age and a lot younger. At this stage I'm trying to maintain the Porsche (body) so it don't break down on the road 😊😊. But its never to late to start working out. Is today your day? #Over50runner

Life post show...
2 days out vs. 10 days post show. Weight this AM was the same as show day which was 59kg but that's more likely down to my sickness bug and dehydration 🤢😔 y thooo! So let's say I'm about 2lbs up from stage weight (60.1kg on Friday morning) and I have honestly just been living and enjoying life over the past week or so. Some boozy days and nights, some chocolate, some meals out. Enjoying it all SENSIBLY. I won't sit here and lie to you saying I've stuffed my face day in day out because I'd be a hell of a lot fatter had that been the case. I've been getting my veggies and lean proteins in, hitting my daily step goal and getting my cardio and training in. All of that has very much stayed the same.
Post comp can be a really tough time and although many won't admit it, it's a time where a lot of people struggle with body image and poor relationships with food. There's more going on behind the epic food porn videos you see on Instagram or the 10,000 calorie challenges on YouTube, I can assure you!
Don't be an idiot post comp. Enjoy yourself but also keep in mind why you competed in the first place. Surely it was down to your love of training and nutrition, your commitment to health and fitness, your enjoyment for the process of watching your body change and your desire to test your mental strength. I'm sure it wasn't cos you wanted to get mega lean then see how fat you could get in a week post competition or because you wanted to create a shit relationship with your body and food.
If you do struggle post comp, it's nothing to be ashamed about. I've struggled at times before and I'm sure I'll struggle again but my advice would be just don't be an idiot when it comes to post show eating. It ain't big and it ain't clever. Don't do it for the gram 🙈😭 pls though, don't.
Of course we all know maintaining show condition isn't healthy or even doable in the long run. Accept that a bit of healthy weight will go on and that's cool. No you're not 'fluffy'. No you don't need to use the 🐷🐖 emojis when referring to yourself. Be kind to yourself but also keep ya head screwed on.
I ran the American Fork half marathon on Saturday, my first ever half marathon! Training was a struggle and I wasn’t able to prepare as well as I wanted as I got sick, and was injured. Two days before I was limping and was afraid I wouldn’t even be able to run it. I am SO grateful for priesthood blessings 🙌 but more importantly, I wanted to run it in honor of my papa bear whose currently battling cancer and also to honor my mama and uncle Tim who returned home after their courageous battles with the disease. I wrote their names on my wrist so when it got hard I could look down and they could help me push through. 100% of the proceeds go to cancer patients in the community and at times, it seriously got me choked up. So grateful for all the work and effort that was put into this race to make it such a special one. I won’t ever forget it and will definitely do it again! 🏃♀️
#AlegraElMundo
Ran up hill, then down it- made those last 2 miles pretty painless.
It was really awesome to finish the #halfmarathon
in this big football arena!
Thank you for your support!! 🙏
Here we are! The second half marathon of the year in the bag. First, thank you for taking a moment out of your day to watch this video. I really appreciate it and love reading your comments! ❤
Let's briefly dive into how this half marathon felt light years different from the half two weeks ago, what nutrition I changed and the terrain of this race. Lastly, I'll briefly address an update on the marathon training. 😀
Thanks again!! ❤

I’m still thinking about this awesome race. It was run so well, the volunteers were awesome, they handed out wet cold towels at mile 12, gloves at the start when we got off the busses, provided space blankets for waiting at the start, kneaders french toast at the end and swag that included a hat and a shirt! Just typing this makes me want to run it again.
