For so many years I thought we were enemies but I’ve come to realize we are just misunderstood best friends. The first thing I do every morning is weigh myself, and here’s why: *accountability: good, bad or indifferent I use the number on the scale to say “hey Girl, yesterday was a good day” or “hey Girl...you need to CHIIL!” *consistency- (for me) creating new habits has been the most important realization throughout this journey. Last fall, it was my HABIT to have 1 Belgian waffle every Thursday from the waffle truck that parked down the street from my office. It was my indulgence which became a routine. Not the worst but definitely not the “habit” I needed at the time. Now my habits are different, clean eating and workouts. Fuel for the Soul that makes me happy not a quick sugar rush followed by misery. *tracking - I hate tracking. It’s something simple that often becomes over complicated she daunting. Sht just sometimes gets too real when it’s in black and white. But it’s an easy pep talk! Number I like, “you go girl” Number I don’t like “you got this girl”. I was afraid of the scale and the truths it would tell me. But she doesn’t control me. We have a healthy relationship now. She guides me and helps formulate the theme of the day and conversation I have with myself. It’s Friyay! Before I trained for my first marathon, my longest run on a weekday was maybe 5-6 miles. No time for anything else. Now I routinely run 7-9 on weekdays Some friends were running 12 this morning, so they wouldn’t have to add miles to The Falmouth Road Race. So why not! 12 miles done before 8am. Falmouth here we come!

‼️ running advice wanted ‼️Ugh I’m so upset 😔 When I played sports as a teen I sometimes had knee issues and the dr always said it was just tendinitis. So I’ve been careful to stretch and ice during this half marathon training. But this morning I was supposed to run 7.25 and I had to stop at 6 because I had knee pain 😩 And I seriously wasn’t even tired so I did NOT want to stop. I don’t know if it’s because I didn’t do my other runs this week so I wasn’t warmed up enough? Or if it’s just my knees???? UGH 😣 I’m really bummed.

Didn’t hit any of my paces in today’s tempo run, but I attempted this run in some gross conditions (71 degrees with 100% humidity) that usually send me to the treadmill, so I’m just happy I had the courage to give it a try. The effort was certainly there, and I know the paces are in me, so I’m not discouraged. And I’m just so happy to have this run out of the way so I can focus on more important thing things this weekend, like going to see @pearljam at Wrigley Field tomorrow night 💃🏼💃🏼
Do you use Calisthenics to help your running? I do and believes it’s hugely beneficial 😁👍 💪 - If you didn’t know Calisthenics are gymnastic exercises which improve bodily fitness and grace of movement - It might be include using a pull up bar (chin-ups), push-ups, running, planks. All that kind of stuff that requires very little equipment. The largest benefit for me personally is the improvement of the core! 👍 the core is hugely important for running as it is known to be the area where the biggest transfer of power originates from. We have been together for almost 7 years so he is was there before running became my life. He was there when I gained a lot of weight in college, became really depressed, lost 50 pounds (but still pretty depressed because i wasn’t confident with my new body at all), and then now the aftermath where I’m past where I’ve lost weight and now the focus is the sport of running and the travel🏃🏼‍♀️ And because of this, I’ve found happiness and confidence 😊❤️ ABOUT TIME. . Today’s 13km felt great. I wasn’t worried about my pace time which was a nice change. I was proud just to get the kilometres in and accomplish the distance. Smiles to and from each passerby really do go along way. So do great podcasts from @kaitlynbristowe @offthevinepodcast and @daxshepard @armchairexppod. They’re great for tuning out how tired I may be and listening to some fun, entertaining, and resourceful voices 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼. Running has been my own version of therapy during my maternity leave. I can think, compose ideas, and take in the city’s beautiful views. Week 5 Day 3 ***Shoulders*** When you fail to prepare, you prepare to fail. Every morning is a struggle and I have yet to put the laundry I washed and folded on Sunday away. Which ONLY means a lot of crashes, bruising and “ouches” in the dark. Put when I’m up, I’m UP. Somnambulant in the dark I some how I make it work. I was late this morning Thought my dad was going to leave me 😳 (lol) Walked into the gym and of course NO TOWEL! So you again go to the front desk request to purchase a towel and all they have are face towels 🤷🏽‍♀️. *** Throughout this program shoulders have been the most humbling. You think HA! I’m strong hand me your heaviest weights. Then comes “Y” raises. 😫 WHHYYYY....you drop to 10lbs, 7.5s and on the 3rd set ZERO! But I know I’m getting stronger, last week I would drop my weights on the 2nd the round and I would modify da fauq on mountain climbers, squat jumps, and PLYo lunges. Between fighting a cold and the insane forest fire smoke I’ve been struggling with energy this week. So I opted to stay in tonight and work my shoulders (day 3 week 5 is ✅) Now to dust off the elliptical and get some cardio in. This week I’ve been focusing on maintaining my fitness, only going out for 6 miles every time I run. I’m looking forward to slowly start increasing the mileage again to finally run a marathon.

Another episode of intimidation tempo Thursday! I’m always soooo nervous going into tempos, surprisingly pulled this one off pretty nicely. • Going into this cycle with a realistic goal. I know I can comfortably hold an 8:30 pace for at least 13 miles (I haven’t ran more than that in a few), it’s not too easy peasy but it also doesn’t leave me gasping for air. If I’m able to pull an 8:30 pace off for 26.2, it would still make for a nice PR. So trying to be smart about these tempos, as much as I want to see sub 8s, I know that isn’t best for my long distance game plan. I held onto 8:20-8:10ish really well tonight for my 7 tempo miles. I’m still working on consistent pacing but overall I’m proud of this one...and also proud of my mindset going into this race. 👊🏼🏃🏼‍♀️ • The only downfall of these tempos is having to stop at intersections due to sidewalk running, I love trail tempos but with the overwhelming reports of whack-a-doodles attacking, I’m trying to refrain from hopping on the trial. It didn’t mess too much with my mojo tonight, though. 1 WU-7 @ GMP-2 CD. After dealing with plantar fasciitis since March and hardly running during that time, I am finally healing and slowly getting back into running on a regular basis. It certainly has been challenging. Because I have missed too much training and playing “catch up” would most likely lead to a setback or different injury I have applied for - and thankfully got - a deferment to 2019 for the Marine Corp Marathon. While disappointing I feel strongly it is for the best. Little did I know that I had biological sister whom I’d never met, and she lived right there in Virginia Beach!!! Sooooo....In 2 weeks I’M GOING BACK!! Yay! This time I’m visiting my new sister (@vabeachblonde711 ) and running the Rock n Roll half!!! Throw back to when I came in to the finish while doing The Thriller at my 5 miler last month 💃🏻😂 . . . Another 5 miles in the bank tonight. I totally nailed my steady state run with super consistent splits (9:02, 8:58, 9:02, 8:56, 8:58). And that’s not always an easy task when you have to stop for traffic every quarter mile. Man, there is SO MUCH more going on just one hour earlier in the evenings. It’s a Thursday night and my town was just a-hoppin! 🤷🏻‍♀️
Here’s a challenge for you: Dare to dream. Be specific, think of the details and write them down. How can you reach this Dream? (This distant reality?) Here’s how: break it down into bite size goals and start chipping away. Still lost? Here’s an example: last fall I promised myself this was it! I thought of living a healthy active life and being beautiful and happy. My life was messy and I was over it. I set a goal without a timeline and started redirecting my energy. I then set small goals ie: 5k, first 10lbs, and 21Day program. Chipped away at each until I could check it off. Set bigger goals: Half Marathon, 25lbs, help other women just like me. Put one foot in front of the other and accomplished these goals. Fearless in my pursuit I fed my Soul with the energy and love it desperately needed. Now the journey continues the Dream gets bigger but the purpose remains the same. I now have visions of hosting fitness groups and challenges and even owning my own health center.
