I took the Sutra out for its first overnight adventure and climbing trip this last weekend. Everything feels right in the world now. This was also my first time venturing onto dirt, gravel, cobbles, and even some single track on Black Powder Pass with the new rig, and I couldn’t be more stoked on how it performed. Definitely exactly what I want in a touring bike!
I really feel that I’ve been cheating myself of something important during my driving days. There’s something incredibly beneficial about bookending the work day with a solid ride, even more so if you give yourself the time to see what’s down that overgrown path you never noticed before or that side street or trail that catches your eye today for some unknown reason you can’t explain but feel compelled to explore. When you decide that conditions are irrelevant to whether or not you ride, you open the door to all kinds of amazing (and often challenging) experiences. Everything is so raw. When it’s cold, you’re fucking freezing. When it rains, you’re wet, and probably wearing shorts because pants are too damn hot so your legs are dripping wet. If it starts hailing, well, you figure it out. On the flip side, when it’s good it’s a nearly spiritual experience. Every day, you get the chance to work hard for something, to really have to dig deep and manage mental and physical pain, and succeed. I’m psyched to be back in the saddle.
