◾Different sects of Islam have different interpretations on which principles apply when determining on hygiene and dirtiness of vermin and edibility of vermin. According to #Hanafi
sects, living beings on land are divided into three groups among themselves:
1. Bloodless types (Fly, Grasshopper, Spider)
2. Those that have non-liquid blood (Most of the vermin, snakes and similar ones)
3. Liquid blood types
According to Hanafi sect, there is an agreement that animals belong to first and second group will not be eaten except for the #grasshopper
.However, the Shafiis mentioned that eating lizards as well as grasshoppers was permissible.
Other than lizards and grasshoppers, the reason of eating the rest being haram is that; these animals are considered not clean and they are mentioned in the #Surah
number 157 as:
…وَيُحِلُّ لَهُمُ الطَّيِّبَاتِ وَيُحَرِّمُ عَلَيْهِمُ الْخَبَائِثَ…
… allows them as #lawful
what is good (and pure) and prohibits them from what is bad (and impure)…
As a result, in Hanafi and Shafii sects it is not permissible to buy and sell the vermin and also to use them as an additive in food products. In the #Maliki
sect, the murder of the insect is only possible with the Islamic method, with intention and basmala. Otherwise, it is not permissible. The #Hanbali
sect adopted the same non-permissible interpretation as the Hanafi and Shafi'i sects.
Only Allah knows the realest of truths.
