Hello loves! How are you doing?
I recovered from the heat wave thanks to three days of beautiful rain, that allowed me to experience vertical life again 🤣 and to get back to work a little, yay!
This post here, I should really call it an ode to the spindle.
Not being able to work with metal and being on the bed for days, dealing with all the emotional crap and anxiety on top of it? Ugh. This little tool here saved me.
Did you know the spindle was actually my first anxiety managing tool when I started therapy? OCD was too heavy to work metal, I was terrorized and drained. So I would spin wool, make thread. There is something hypnotic to it, that helps put the mind at ease. It's like a meditation with busy hands - and I need my hands busy, especially when the mind is very very agitated.
The spindles you see here, I made them myself.
I don't have a lot of money to invest on buying spindles, plus nobody makes what I really need: something that can allow me to spin while half laying on the couch or bed, with not too intense arm movement because when I get to spin at night I am usually already tired from metal work. So these spindles take inspiration from Italian, French and Bulgarian ancient ones, but they are much much smaller, with some modifications I made along the way...they hold less amount of yarn of course, but they are such easy lap companions.
I even made a tiny tiny one to carry around - that will be my first tool to help me beat agoraphobia (I know many spinners do it outside and everywhere but I am still very self conscious and hello social anxiety, so right now I prefer a small secret magical tool😜).
The ones with wool on are my own, the dark ones I made for my friend @moonsong_forest
What do you think? Anyone would like to give them a try? Both spinners and newbies, maybe someone that is looking for some activity to help them unwind? (I made a pun here. Ahah).
I am considering to offer a few for sale...I have made spindles for free for a while and sent them around the world, but selling them, even if at a small price, would allow me to cover the costs.
Give me your thoughts! 💙
