I’ve done CrossFit for six years now. I started competing right away, made top ten six months into it, in the scaled division. A month later began competing in the RX division and never looked back.
I have never “done CrossFit to be fit,” I’ve always been the person that legitimately tries to win every class workout (yes, I said win) and tries to out lift everyone around. My ego THRIVES on CrossFit and I enjoy it.
A few years ago I made it to Regionals on a team. I was absolutely the weak link and I fixated on that so to be honest, I didn’t enjoy the experience to the fullest that I believe I should have.
But a few things have happened over the last couple of months..
1. I haven’t enjoyed my gym as much so I’ve had a couple reasons to want to go less.
2. I joined a globo gym 3 minutes away from my apartment so it’s easy to go there for a quick lift and not fight traffic.
3. I started personal training four clients which takes up four mornings a week for me now, and takes up more of my overall time in the day.
Ultimately, everything happens for a reason and I feel like I am just doing CrossFit for fun these days. It absolutely makes me appreciate the experience of Regionals so much more, which is awesome.
And now, I mostly just want to do a workout I enjoy so that my butt and my abs look good (yes I’m vain) no matter how many burgers and tacos I eat. (Shout out to 85% of my IG feed being restaurants or chefs and @tylerjholt
for helping me learn that food is more than fuel.) And then today, I was at the gym and I did two things I’ve NEVER done before...
60’ unbroken handstand walk.. TWICE
17 unbroken chest to bar pull-ups
So it’s kinda funny. Sometimes when you stop forcing things they just kinda fall into place.
