SINKING OF TUG BOAT-MASTER FEARED DEAD 😢😢😢😔😭
The master of a tugboat assisting movement of Ro-Pax ferry service vessel of Indigo Seaways is feared dead while six others onboard were rescued when it overturned at Dahej jetty near Bharuch on Thursday afternoon.
On Saturday, the new vessel will be inaugurated by chief minister Vijay Rupani to ferry passengers as well as heavy vehicles, cars and two-wheelers.
Sources said the trial run of Ro-Pax ferry service vessel between Dahej and Gogha was going on for the past three days. On the third day, the trial run had started from Dahej port in the afternoon after loading passenger vehicles, trucks and passengers.
The incident occurred when Al Vasil tugboat, owned by Naeem Bhavnagarwala, was assisting Ro-Pax vessel out of Dahej jetty. Around seven people, including master of the tugboat, Hiralal Jethva were onboard when the incident occurred. The tugboat, while assisting Ro-Pax vessel out of the jetty, overturned due to severing of the ropes.
While six people managed to jump into the sea and were rescued, the master was inside the tugboat when it overturned. The marine police immediately rushed to the spot and started rescue operation along with the staff of Ro-Pax ferry service. Even as the tugboat overturned, Ro-Pax vessel went on its journey from Dahej to Gogha jetty. The vessel was loaded with 15 trucks, five cars and about 200 passengers.
Marine police sources at Dahej stated that the tugboat master Hiralal Jethva was missing and that a search was on find his body. Six people rescued on Thursday were second master Sandip Biswas, driver Ashish Mandal, seaman Shabir Mohammed Shaikh, seaman Ataullah Shaikh, seaman Surojit Sadashiv Das and cook Bablu Lashkar.
