I’ve been getting really ill after eating a lot of processed foods labelled as ‘gluten free’ .. today I had some (a lot) gluten free oatcakes and the outcome was a real eye opener.. my entire day I’ve been exhausted, struggled with sever brain fog, couldn’t function properly, my stomach has been in agony and it’s swelled up like a balloon! . . If ever I needed a reminder why I went gluten free, today was exactly that! Stress. 🤪 Who doesn't experience this from time to time? It could even be everyday. From work to bills to making deadlines, we all have to "worry" about these stress-induced activities. As we age, our bodies are less able to handle the wear and tear caused by stress. Normally, the body, especially the brain, has built-in mechanisms to keep stress hormones at just the right level. But as we get older, these internal stress-hormone- reducing mechanisms gradually become less effective. Not handling stress in healthy way can cause out of balance hormones in turn reducing vitality and longevity. Stress shrinks the brain, ages the heart, weakens the bones, makes you sick, suppresses sleep, bad for the gut, can lead to diabetes (high levels of stress hormones raise bloodnsugar, which can lead to insulin resistance. Now, lets talk about ways to reduce these stress factors. ❗if you can't change it, don't worry about it. If a situation has passed or out of your control, come to terms with it. ❗focus on solutions, not problems. Once a problem occurs, focus on finding a solution to regain sense of control. ❗MUSIC. This by far is my favorite way to de-stress (besides exercising) no phones, no TV'S, just put on some easy listening music, and relax. Take deep breaths, focus on the breath as it enters and leaves your body. ❗Laughter. Find your funniest group of friends and just start up a great jokingly conversation. It also does wonders. Use these tools and more to help decrease your levels of stress.
