“You gonna grow old, or you gonna keep playing?”
Direct by: Jeff Tomsic
So this is what Hawkeye was up to during the arrival of Thanos, just keeping the same game of tag alive for thirty years for the month of May, but has never been tagged. That’s commitment. That’s a daring bond. The characters are a class act of personalities. Jon Hamm is a stud and can do great comedy, Jake Johnson is a solid stoner, Jeremy Renner, a Jason Bourne savant, and Hannibal Buress who’s a one line wizard. They call him Sable of course he’s fantastic. The foundation is the game itself, and it is hilarious on how it unfolds. Renner’s character has Sherlock Holmes’ breakdowns of how he’ll not be tagged and it’s great. It’s very enjoyable to see this gang go through the torment of being It. The back and forth banter, friendship, and attempts keep this extremely entertaining, but for the final act, it takes a bit of a weird turn of realization. It was odd. It takes the game further then the extreme, morally and makes Renner’s character look like a terrible friend. Not too fond of the wrap up ending, and most characters are just ok, but with ninety percent of the jokes landing, a terrific ensemble, a dash of a good soundtrack, and a reminder to keep your youth well intact and your childhood friends close, the game of tag is worth a good time. Comedies are strong this year and it’s holding steady.
