So no one ever told me how back-and-forth physical therapy could be. *
Most people in my life haven't seen me in the last few weeks, oblivious to how quickly, and unpredictably, MS symptoms can unravel. For years, I would sometimes go to bed afraid I'd wake up unable to see, hear, talk, or--as happened a few times--wake up to a semi-paralyzed body.
I've lost my sight before. I've had partial deafness, dysarthria, left-side numbness before. I've had issues with tremors, weakness, slurred speech, double vision before. I've been hospitalized for extreme vertigo and extreme headaches.
This time, for the first time since I was diagnosed in 2008, I've developed mobility issues. And boy have I had to learn quickly. While my colleagues were busy grading final papers, I was learning how to navigate the world without the ability to walk to a corner store...at least, not without excruciating pain.
Pain is the reason why I'm walking differently. With the physical therapy, I've noticed improvements and have more faith now that I'll be able to walk like I used to--that is, that this is just another one of those annoying, but temporary, symptoms MS is so popular for. (And by temporary, I'm referring to weeks and months. I'm not a starfish.) *
Getting sick this year also makes it clear WHY I need this Bone Marrow Stem Cell Transplant (#HSCT
). You can read through the latest research on the National MS Society website: it's becoming clear that HSCT is far superior, and the closest thing to a cure, out there. It has halted very aggressive MS before, and I, too, hope this transplant will put this disease on pause.
After 11 years, MS is still an ongoing nightmare (as made evident by what I went through in the academy). Enough is enough. *
I'm going to have a really strenuous year ahead of me and will be needing support very, very soon. *
As we approach July 1st and #Pride
month, can you help me with $20? $10? Help me get me back on my feet again? - Krys
