Are you team “ugh I hate Thanksgiving, there are too many temptations” but you wanna be team “Yesss pumpkin pie for breakfast until it’s all gone!” . It feels like everyone at the office is conspiring against you this time of year. . “No candy for me today, thanks!”…”I’m saving room for dessert on the actual holiday!” …”Fine, I guess I’ll just have one”. Worn down until you have no choice but to just eat one, “welp, there goes my diet” (as you put 3 more candies in your purse)… and then you slump away to your desk feeling guilty. I get it, it’s tough. So, hear me out...❤️ . Restriction and worry leads to two things: binging and/or flooding your bod with cortisol (stress hormone). Both are no bueno for your health goals. So, since I don’t believe in Thanksgiving without pie, here are my tips for getting through the holiday satisfied and guilt-free: . + Try to use placeholders as you get busier this week: schedule 10 mins to do some form of movement instead of skipping your regular workout. Just get moving. Placeholders help keep the habit, skipping it teaches your brain it’s ok to put it off. + If you can’t just be all, “eff it!” and eat all the things without guilt (totally get that this ain’t easy), then try this out for me: if you REALLY want that ONE thing, & by restricting you’re going to think about it all night — just eat it and move on! Obsessing over something you “can’t” eat causes way more stress on your body than a few bites of sugar will. Trust me. + Go for healthier foods first. You’ll fill up and be less likely to overindulge on the other stuff. But remember it’s totally OK to have some pie, too!! . Life is short, friends. Be kind to yourself and enjoy the holiday. Repeat after me: you are not a bad person for eating pie. Perspective is a funny thing . . Years ago I was told I could no longer run, do squats, or jump because of my bad knee (I have severe osteoarthritis that will require a total knee replacement one day) >>>> I felt like my identity had been ripped from me. . . Years ago I was told I'd be on medication for my thyroid for the rest of my life >>> I felt like my body was failing me. . . Years ago I was told to take a beta blocker medication for my migraines as a preventative and then imitrex with the onset. >>>> I felt like my body was against me. . . I sat in those feelings for a long time. I let those feeling become my reality because WHAT YOU GIVE FOCUS TO, ENERGY FLOWS meaning the universe kept giving me crappy things because I had a crappy outlook. . . ~~~~ . . Fast forward to today and I've overcome all 3 of those crappy situations. . . 💚Yes I have a bad knee but I can still bike. 💚Yes I have only half a thyroid but I can still make my body work at it's best (& continue living medication free) 💚Yes my body is prone to migraines but I can eat and do things to prevent them from happening (now medication free) . . ~~~~ . . What changed? . . >>> My perspective! My outlook! My thoughts! . . 🔥I started focusing on the life I wanted to live. 🔥I started visualizing ALL DAY LONG on things that made me feel good. 🔥I started doing things every day that would keep me feeling good, so I coupd continue to feel good and then tada- EVERYTHING WORKED IT'S WAY OUT! . . My life became something I was deliberately making instead of my life being taken over by my body. (The later sucked the life out of me!) . . My question for you is, WHAT ARE YOU FOCUSING ON?

I think we can all agree that if we walked past this window of sugary treats, we’d all be pretty tempted to pop in and buy something. They look delicious and probably smell great too. However, if you’re one of the many people that would then act on this and buy, there are simple tools to change this behaviour to try to remove the trigger.⬇️ It can be really hard to remove temptation in life and especially from our diet, even when we’re trying really hard to be healthy. ⬇️ Simple steps such as recognising where the shop/cafe is that tempts you to make unhealthy choices, and then crossing the road, can make a difference. Change the route you take to work or home. Distract yourself with a phone call. Have a healthy snack to hand to help remove temptation. ⬇️ Sometimes just addressing the trigger and acknowledging it, can work. Small changes can eventually lead to big results. You can do this! This will ring true to more than 1-2 people. This is a huge criticism of diet clubs, groups, strict plans etc. Warning: This may trigger you... If you are “on a diet”, and losing weight, great. If you then take a week off, you’re “off plan”, you shelve it for a week and don’t think about losing weight, but you GAIN weight... does this not ring a huge alarm in your head? What happens when it’s time to quit these clubs, plans, groups etc? Are you going to put it all back on? Most will. Why? Because they’ve not learnt a thing about nutrition, what their body needs, how it reacts to certain foods or groups of food, they don’t know what role calories play. Last week I saw someone post an image saying they were “happy they’d only gained 3 pound” during “a week off plan”. What. The. Actual. Fuck. It’s not a “plan” you need, or some disjointed point system scaring you from eating frozen grapes or Philadelphia, you need to sort your habits out and learn how to maintain your weight, how to go about everyday life and eat “normally”. It’s true that “some people don’t know how NOT to diet”. I’m not saying you can’t enjoy your food on a week off (I love eating out and have an affinity with Maltesers), but actively gaining weight and excusing it as a “week off” is leading you to a long term problem that will be tough to resolve. I regularly introduce a “step down” approach with my clients; we hit it hard for a few weeks, then have a week off. That week off is a break, psychologically more than anything. That week is a “maintain” week, not a “eat whatever I want” week. Takeaway lesson; if you’re struggling to lose weight, learn how to not gain it first.
