Tostones burger 😍 Obsessed with these “buns” made out of plantains, they are so good. To make the them I just peeled and cut a plantain into 4 pieces (each piece is a bun) and boiled them for about 10-15 min until soft. Then I smashed each piece with 2 plates, and fried them with some coconut oil until crispy. To finish, I just assembled the burger with the tostones + chards + ground beef patty + bacon + avocado 🍔 . Hamburguesa con tostones como “pan” 😍 Obsesionada con estos "panes" hechos de plátano macho, están buenísimos. Para hacerlos, simplemente pele y corté el plátano en 4 pedazos (cada pieza es un pan) y los herví por unos 10-15 minutos hasta que estén blandos. Luego aplasté cada pedazo con 2 platos y los freí con un poco de aceite de coco hasta que quedaron crujientes. I successfully completed my first professional workshop. This was the first type of workshop on food that’s been done at the Bikram yoga studio I attend @hotyogaclaremont. People want to know how to take care of their body inside and out, but most people are lost and don’t know how to start. Not only that, people need to hear the information that will never been shown on the news or mainstream TV. I felt like my voice on social media wasn’t enough, so I want to bring my voice to the people. I want to empower and inspire everyone to become their own health advocate. It’s #ScienceSunday … on a Monday! Postponed due to Father’s day but the science day is now here! Time for some #BrainGains ! 💪🏻🧠 💪🏻 This week we’re talking about whether or not you are doomed to lose all of your muscle mass and strength as you get old. Aging is commonly associated with a loss of muscle mass and strength, resulting in falls, functional decline, and the subjective feeling of weakness. But is the physiology of the muscle aging process itself that causes of this? And can this loss of strength be influenced and combatted with lifestyle changes? 👩🏼‍🔬THE STUDY: This study evaluated whether high levels of chronic exercise prevents the loss of lean muscle mass and strength experienced in sedentary aging adults 🔅A cross-section of 40 high-level recreational athletes (age 40-81) who trained 4-5 times per week were tested for health/activity, body composition, quadriceps peak torque, and MRI of bilateral quadriceps. The MRIs looked at mid-thigh muscle area, quadriceps area, subcutaneous fat, and intramuscular fat 🔬THE RESULTS: The only “expected” change that occurred with age was an increase in total body fat percentage 🔅The following showed no decline with age: mid thigh muscle area, quadriceps area, quadriceps peak torque, and specific strength 👉🏻WHAT THIS MEANS: This study contradicts the common observation that muscle mass and strength decline as a function of aging alone. Instead, these declines may signal the effect of chronic disuse rather than muscle aging. Evaluation of masters athletes removes disuse as a confounding variable in the study of lower-extremity function and loss of lean muscle mass 🔅TLDR: Don’t let life “get in the way” of exercise as you get older. Making time to exercises regularly will help insure that your quality of life stays higher as you get older ❗️LIMITATIONS: For the study design, this seems to be a small sample size. It would be useful to look at studies where participants were evaluated over time
+1lb to be honest I can’t really complain. I’ve been going through lots of health issues for years and years. It’s what brought me to Young Living which has changed the course of our family’s life. I’ve had so much help and support and encouragement but I’m definitely still walking through health ups and downs, praying for full healing and seeking as many natural ways to support my body as possible. I’ve learned so much and truly I’m grateful for this journey I’m on. Currently I’m changing my whole diet ((again)) and learning different ways to nourish my body. Today I had the pleasure of meeting and working with @drterrywahls for a mutual client/patient, and WOW is she a true and incredible healer and innovator. She said to me that when she started on her path, her peers thought she was crazy, and now she is thought of as brilliant by the same people. She fought against the current at the time to pursue healing from an environmental, nutrition, exercise and spiritual perspective and not only has she healed herself, but she has healed thousands. She practices a form of medicine that is so encompassing- including spiritual, movement, nutrition- and she is powerful. I made it to the @otf.issaquah this morning but was struggling with some pain in my right shin. It was endurance day. I tried not to over do it and it's reflected in my stats. 37 weeks! 2 weeks til induction day! So many emotions right now 🤗🙊👏🏻😬 Aaaand we had our first excitement {potential trip to the hospital} yesterday bc I had a cramp in my lower right belly for 10 hours 🤦🏻‍♀️ After the first 5 hours of constant pain I called the doc on call and almost went into the hospital for early labor pains... but since it didn’t feel like contractions {bc it was a constant pain} we decided to wait it out and see if it got better, which it finally did around 8:30 😬 Doc said as long as it didn’t get worse or have a rhythm then I could stay home, and gave me a list of things to monitor. She said it was probably just my muscles freaking out bc Peanut is lower and so much heavier now that the muscles are cramping from being exhausted. Talk about being exhausted 😬😴😴😴 Thankfully we stayed calm and now the cramp has resolved itself 👏🏻👍🏻 When the pain was at its worst I kept talking to Peanut (myself) saying we’re going to be fine and that Peanut is going to be a happy healthy babe so it’s all worth it ☺️ Thankful for the skills I’ve learned around mindfulness that I could be present in that moment 👏🏻 Certainly had a mental shift after realizing that we almost went into the hospital... Working my way out of another flare up; Levo taken bright and early, drinking water like my life depends on it, and home exercise targeting abs, legs, arms, and glutes to help reduce inflammation. Deep breathing to de-stress. Vitamins and minerals. Staying indoors in cool and dry environments to prevent puffiness and swelling. Re-creating a great sleep routine. Partial morning fast. Water. Reducing and eliminating dairy, sodium, sugar and caffeine😢. No sodas/pop. More water. Portion control. No gluten cross contaminants. Broth. Green tea. Clean eating. Real meals. Mostly plant based. Mostly raw. Forgiving the occasional cheat meal. First meal today- Hard boiled eggs, 2 tbls hummus, half or a serving of spinach(serving size is 2 cups) and teff. Baby steps. Dinner last night was maple glazed chicken and sweet potatoes, green beans, a biscuit, and applesauce with a sprinkle of cinnamon. This was so good and so easy to throw together! I probably won’t be posting much food this week guys. It’s a proper using up week as we only have 2 and a half weeks till we finish the PGCE and move back to Kent! ¶ HOW TO START I want to share a few steps I did to prepare myself for the challenge. First of all, *motivation*: it is absolutely important to have a specific reason why you want to start a challenge like this. Find your personal motivation and keep it in mind any time you are tempted to quit. Secondly, *knowledge*: if you're not seeing a doctor (or nutritionist, as in this case) you want to learn as much as possible. Start from the basics, understand how the body works and what factors are or may be involved in whatever health issue you have. In my case, I looked for the causes of acne and I tried to make a list of the possible ones for me. Then I did a little research on the web, reading others' experiences AND scientific papers. Now I have an idea of what I could tried, other than using drugs or skincare products. This is my personal choice, now explained.
