I’m having one of those days... weeks... where I don’t feel great about my body. I stand in the mirror and grab at my stomach skin. I turn and pinch. Bend and pull. Trying to determine... what I’m not sure. Perhaps just how inadequate I am...quantified by the fat I have?
Distorted body image? Bingo.
It’s irrational. Completely ridiculous. But it’s there. I don’t fit my expectation of what the ideal body looks like. Therefore I am less
So I post this picture where I think I look ideal to try to feel better.
It never works by the way.
There’s an expectation that women need to be a specific size, color or shape to be valued. Our culture impresses on us that our bodies are our currency. And if our currency isn’t highly valued then what does that say about our value as people?
While you may disagree and say you don’t think that way... I’d bet you it’s there, deeply integrated into your though pattern. It may not be as extreme as mine but... it’s probably there. And it can really muck with your relationship with food and eating.
My own journey trying to repair my relationship with food while struggling with body image has taught me lots. It led me to my profession for one. Where I try to help people do the same - repair their relationship with food. .
I’m still learning. But right now I am enough. And so are you. It’s a journey right?

I definitely go through phases with my food...you guys have seen my avocado posts 😐
But when I was living in a land of restriction/binge things looked a little different...
I would always keep an ear open for a new healthy food to latch on to- one that would be the key to a Victoria’s Secret body 💁🏼♀️
I remember being sick in bed one time in high school. Debra Messing was being interviewed on @oprah
just after she’d had her baby and naturally the conversation gravitated to food/body yadayadayada. I remember Debra saying that she’s gotten hooked on Shredded Wheat during her pregnancy....clearly the reason she’d lost all of the baby weight so quickly 🙄
For the next 3 years I kid you not I ate Shredded Wheat every day. Sometimes it was pretty much the only thing I ate...as in like the entire box 😂
I’m so not perfect with food now but I’ve come suuuuch a long way from the Shredded Wheat days. I’ve found joy and abundance (not as in an entire box 🤪) through REAL food and I’m so fired up to support my clients in discovering this for themselves 🤗🤗🤗 If you’re ready to ditch the days of binging, “diet” food and tiny salad plates reach out and say hi ;) I’ve been there. I am all about balance and lately my laziness and health issues has been tipping that scale off balance
(Not an actual weight scale though, because mine is broken 😒)
This is actually my favourite 'food court' meal. I bought it from Coles... Sometimes I'll go for something actually from the food court (balance) but I eat in a variety of places, so I like to make good choices as often as possible
Especially to outweigh times when I'm unwell or lazy and indulge too much 😰
I've been quite silly with my food choices lately and not starting the day properly often sets me up for failure for the rest of the day (I will snack constantly, nothing will satisfy me)
And honestly I've felt like a complete failure most of the last month
I have realised, that through all the ups and downs with my health/injuries this year that even when I've had a bad week or month, I've not completely undone everything I've worked so hard to achieve
Yes sometimes it takes a bit to get back to running comfortably or lifting weights, but I've still maintained my weightloss and gained so much in health that I'm not about to reverse
Long story short, I'm not a failure, I'm still kicking 👊

Listen to it - it’s saved me many times with my children’s sickness so why should it be wrong any other time? So I said YES. Having no idea what I would be doing to be honest. But it felt right and it felt good and the people were good.
They still are.
Night Time Snack
So many times we hear, “don’t eat within 2 hours before bed” or “no food after 7pm” but it’s all just not true.
Eating protein right before bed is perfectly fine, encouraged even!! Protein puts your body in an anabolic state which allows you to burn fat.
One of my go-to snacks is a protein mug cake. Makes me feel like I’m getting a sweet treat without the guilt and I know I’m doing my body a favor.

Throw back to the night before I gave birth to our baby girl, Tiana💜 it was one of the longest nights of our life but it was all worth the wait.
I have heard and read a lot of stories where women have said "I hated being pregnant" or "I couldn't wait for it to be over" and I can totally understand if the woman had a difficult pregnancy or were on bed rest due to health circumstances but for those who were perfectly healthy, for me to hear that blew my mind. Inside I was thinking "How could you possibly hate being pregnant!?" but I guess everyone is different and that is perfectly fine. For me pregnancy and everything about it, even when I had my head in the toilet was the most satisfying and beautiful journey that I have ever undertaken. Pregnancy is BEAUTIFUL! You are growing a little human, who you will one day hold, look into their eyes and know that that amazing little person was created out of love. If you're pregnant at the moment or are about to give birth embrace every moment because it comes and goes so quickly, cherish the time you have and make the most of your relationships before your bundle of joy comes into the world.
Honestly, I cannot wait to be pregnant again and to welcome another little addition to our family but only time will tell when that will happen👨👩👧🖤🤰🏽

June 2017, I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia months after a pretty traumatic divorce. My marriage and my entire life had fallen apart. .
What wasn’t new was health struggles. Years back I was diagnosed with PCOS and chronic pelvic pain. I became a train wreck.
With the fibro diagnoses, I decided to attack it differently. With a positive mindset. .
In 2017, I had 408 sick hours of missed time off work. I was practically bedridden with debilitating pain. What I focused on, was the beauty in the world. .
I started taking photographs to capture all the goodness of life despite the intense battle of pain I struggled with. Along with the photographs, I was determined to find answers. .
I chose to deny opioids and went the medical cannabis route instead. This not only helped the pain but also my mindset. I LOVE CBD. Did you know @marys_medicinals

I also focused on food, exercise, massage, and, my spiritual well-being. .
Today, I am a vibrant soul that LOVES life and lives each day to the fullest. I do take nerve drugs (Savella) but mostly, the process has been natural. .
Here are my tips that I use daily to fight this incurable illness. Even if you’re not a fibro warrior, a lot of these tips can still be applied towards a better life. ❤️

Jayhawk win and meal prep is done! My own spin on a creamy shredded chicken soup 🍜 cooked in a crockpot on high for 4 hours: 3 very large chicken breast, 2 cups chicken bone broth, 1 can diced tomatoes, 1/2 an onion, 4 Tbs butter, 1 Tbs cumin, 1 Tbs chili powder, 1 tsp paprika, 1 tsp salt, 1 tsp pepper, 1 tsp red chili flakes, 1/2 tsp cayenne, then add a block of cream cheese and cook for 30 more minutes and finish with parsley! It made about 10 cups and these containers are 1.5 cups each•

Anytime I have a “lap blanket” on (mainly because it’s arctic in my room) I always think of the grandparents in Charlie & The Chocolate Factory. They literally sat under the covers forever and were decrepit. I was chuckling at this as I tucked myself into my fuzzy blanket and thought “Hm, are there areas in my life that I just need to get up and try to freaking walk?” 🤔 Yeah, there are! There are totally areas of my life that I’ve been “sitting” for so long that I have to learn how to “re-walk” in those areas. 💡 Then while connecting with some clients tonight we chatted about the joys of goal setting and how important it is to keep moving forward toward the goals we’ve set for ourselves. #sofreakinginspired

Know that regardless of your goals (physical health, mental health, financial health, etc.) you CAN learn how to walk again! I spent years being unhappy with where I was in life in so many different aspects. My job, my health, my relationships, my self confidence.. (you get it right?) •
I know what it's like to feel trapped. Like you have no way of changing your circumstances and no chance of being authentically happy. But you do. And you can be. I can't promise everyday is going to be perfect or that you'll feel the same motivation on day one as you do on day 50, (spoiler alert-you probably won't) but I doubt you'll ever say to yourself, "damn, I wish I never took the first step to better myself"... • ((Basically, this is me telling you to take that step. Whatever it is. Just freaking do it. And I promise, you'll spend the rest of your life thanking yourself for doing it.❤️))

💧Carry a water bottle with you literally EVERYWHERE! I know that this can seem annoying to carry a bottle with you everywhere, but I promise it will get you drinking more water. Try to drink water anytime that you can. When you’re bored in class? Drink water. When you’re waiting in line? Drink water. Have a headache? Drink water. 💧Write notes to yourself! This sounds weird but give it a try. I like to write a habit tracker in my planner, but you can also try writing sticky notes for yourself or setting an alarm on your phone! 💧Get an app! There are countless apps that are specifically for getting you to drink more water. I know of a couple that grow a plant the more you drink water (just make sure to not let your plant die…) This post is for anyone out there who’s neglecting water at the moment or even just trying to be healthier. Clearer skin, increased energy, and regulated digestive system are just a few benefits of drinking the recommended amount of water. Do some more research if you’re really interested, or drink more water and see results for yourself! I’ll be completely real with y’all and tell you that even drinking 2 liters has been a struggle for me- so I’m right there with ya!

I don’t hear enough about getting proper sleep from health social media accounts. Sleep does so much for your body!! It helps with concentration, fight off sickness, rebuilds and restores muscles, and so much more. Sleep is one of those refine skills in knowing when to listen to your body! If you feel tired listen and get some rest! Need a quick 20 minutes siesta in the middle of the day? You deserve it girl.
