For a long time, I wasn't interested in female friendships. I hung with the dudes because my experiences with females during those teen years were pretty awful and I was carrying lots of wounds around. I trusted no female. My heart was walled off.
I thought I had handled things pretty well until I reached my mid-20s and realized I actually experienced some bigger stuff than I thought leaving me with emotional trauma. Heavy feelings of being ostracized... for no reason other than taking up space.
Fast forward to age (almost) 36 after some major growth and healing and I have more amazing females in my life than I've EVER had. Still a small circle girl but I never knew what I was missing. Some have come and gone with their lessons but I really never saw myself wanting... no, NEEDING female friendships.
I want to take a moment to extend a huge THANK YOU to those who showed me what real friendship looks like. What it's like to be able to trust again and know that I have a real support system. You know who you are.♥️ P.S. shout out to my health-freak online friends too! I love our growth game!
🏜️DRY SKIN. All the humidifiers can't keep this house from drying us all up. A healthy home humidity level is 40-50% and lately (according to my humidity meter) my home has dropped to 26%! 🙏If you've got any tips besides adding humidifiers everywhere - send them my way!
In the meantime, this Recovery Sleeping Cream from the Countermatch line is my "saving face" (see what I did there?). It's the ONLY thing that works for my dry winter skin. (Well, this and the overnight peel which is my favorite beautycounter product ever. Dynamite combo with the wild dry air.) Truly. I've tried all the things. I even use this during the day right now. It's da best! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 BY THE WAAAAY... Did you see the new COUNTERMAN line released on the website??!!!! Gah!! Check my shopping link in my bio to shop for the dudes in yo life!
Grow. Change. Shift. Adapt. Question everything. Leave comfort zones.
Same old thinking = same old results.
This applies to everything: "I've always ate this way, I've always thought this way, I've always used these products, I've always slept this way, I've always moved this way, I've always believed this way, I've always worked this way, I've always loved this way..."
Does it really work for you?
What would the best version of yourself do?
Welcome to my weird lunches.
I'm a big fan of slowing down to eat. We Americans tend to rush through life and well, that doesn't suit our digestive system.
It's a parasympathetic system (rest & digest) and requires being relaxed in order to kickstart and work efficiently. So many of us are in flight or fight mode most of our days that we literally have to force ourselves to sit down, breathe, and truly enjoy our meals.
This is totally me with lunch.
I'm all about a slow-paced morning and enjoying breakfast with my kids before Trent heads to school. And dinner is all of us around the table enjoying conversation with our meal (Rory is such the entertainer). But lunch...
It feels like an interruption. Anyone else feel me? I'm sure I felt differently when I worked outside the home but I just want to yell, "Body, I just fueled you! How dare you be hungry again so soon! I'm busy!" Trying to shift this mindset. Maybe it'll be better after my entire home has been 🙏 KonMari-ed.
Hodge-podge meals or leftovers it is 'round here.

☕🍵CAFFEINE. Don't drink it as soon as you wake up!
Yeah! Cortisol levels are still elevated for the first few hours after waking (cortisol helps you wake up - like melatonin helps you get sleepy). And guess what caffeine does? Boosts cortisol! So if you drink it when not needed, you blunt the effect.
Drinking it somewhere between 10am - noon is ideal because that is when cortisol naturally dips. This will give you the caffeine boost when you may actually need it.
With that said, if you're like me, you don't handle caffeine well. I can only have a little and do much better drinking it bulletproof-style or with food. I prefer matcha because of the L-theanine which helps with a calm buzz (if that makes sense). When do you usually drink your coffee/matcha?
If you have skin struggles, keep reading 👉 I can't explain to you the difference in my skin since I stopped using conventional products, ditched birth control pills, and worked on balancing my hormones with diet and lifestyle. I have a few pictures of my skin I'll be sharing soon because everyone loves a before/after but I honestly hated having any photos of my suffering skin.
I jumped on the oil cleansing train when I decided to purge/recover from birth control pills and I saw immediate improvement in my acne and skin tone... until I didn't anymore.
Lesson learned: coconut oil is STRONG and comedogenic over time. Not cool. It took digging and researching to find the right combo of oils for acne prone skin. I settled on pumpkin seed oil and/or hempseed oil with some frankincense essential oil. Then I'd moisturize with rosehip oil.
This was my jam for a long time until I noticed I needed more SOMETHING. Enter Beautycounter.
I was hesitant to use anything other than what I was doing and I didn't want to add in anything complex cause I'm a simple girl who likes not being high maintenance. But I LOVED everything Beautycounter was about. Education-based, better beauty advocacy, and rigorously tested products? Um, yes please.
The charcoal mask won me over. Then the moisturizers. Then the overnight peel. Then the body lotions and oils. Then serums. And now... makeup. And guess what?! Everything is still frickin' simple and my skin is even BETTER.
EVEN POST PARTUM. I mean, I've got some tired eyes, a few wrinkles, and some winter dryness but that's small potatoes compared to that inflamed, painful, congested, discolored skin 7 years ago.
Nothing against going natural and simple - it works but I found it wasn't ENOUGH for me. And while it's important to use non-toxic skincare products, what we can put ON our skin IS different than what we put IN our bodies. Some synthetic ingredients that are effective, aren't harmful. And some molecules are so large, they don't absorb into our blood stream (hello, non-nano zinc oxide in safer sunscreen).
So, while I post about Beautycounter because I sell it, it is so much more (more in comments)
I gained 40lbs with both of my pregnancies. I'm not sure why as I don't eat carelessly but I def don't count anything because that isn't the time to be rigid. It's just what my body does to have a healthy pregnancy, ensure milk supply for baby, and make sure I have the nutrient stores to recover. For that, I am thankful.
It can be emotional to watch your body change so much in a short time. And I don't mean just the belly growth (that's the exciting part!). My second pregnancy covered me in a lovely layer of cellulite. Everywhere. My face gained weight and was puffy from double blood volume. My back widened, boobs exploded, and none of my old clothes fit for a very long time post-delivery. My body was foreign.
We talk a lot about embracing this magic. Motherhood. And I do - I'm a bad mamajama - but that doesn't mean it's still not challenging sometimes. There is a grieving period over what was and will never be again.
I don't "bounce back." It takes a full year for me to see and feel some resemblance of my normal self. Could I *do* more about that? Maybe. I guess. I just don't see that time in my life as the time to try and be an athlete. That time will come but it's not when I have broken sleep, am breastfeeding, and navigating that first year with a new baby.
With all that said, I worked out today for the first time since before the holidays. I am weak. I've lost so much muscle and it's a little disheartening. I want to hit the fast forward button to at least feel strong enough to do more intense workouts more frequently. ×
But I'm. just. not. there.
Patience, grace, and most importantly - consistency. It'll come. It will come. (Btw - this is NOT about aesthetics. It's about strength, function, and my mood. But seeing some muscle definition never hurt either.💪)
I'm a fan of candles just as much as the next person... But I'm not a fan of the air pollution. While there are some candles that burn "clean" they aren't that easy to find (beeswax, coconut wax, soy, no paraffin, no synthetic fragrance... The list goes on). So, I've been doing simmer pots with real ingredients! This one is lemon slices, rosemary, and some vanilla.🍋
Of course diffusing essential oils is a great option but I have to be careful with a baby and a cat. Cats don't metabolize oils like humans do and they are quite sensitive to many of them. Much of the oils I love (like clove, citrus, cinnamon, eucalyptus), I can't use around my cat (makes you think of the toxic cleaning chemicals used in the house at times too - if you haven't switched to safer yet) so simmer pots are what I feel most comfortable with.
Sooo sooo true!!! In my routines, I workout at night before bed. And once I’m seeing results, it’s much easier to shut down any resistance or excuse of wanting to skip a workout. It’s also much easier turn down those fatty foods too. Let’s make 2019 a better year for us, for health, and for life! Stick to those workouts, healthy eating, and becoming a better you. But ultimately it does start with you not physically so much as mentally. A journey to good health is a change inside and out. It’s our thinking pattern and mentality that has to change first before we can achieve success in all those areas we want to change. #itallstartswithyou #healthyminded #changeyourthinking #goals #results #loveyourself #newyearnewyou #dedication #determination
One of the best things you can do for yourself is work on your gut health.
Poor gut function is an indicator of your whole health. This goes beyond just 💩 though.
Gut health plays a role in:
While there are many things involved with healing a leaky gut, consuming fermented foods regularly is high on the priority list. Probiotics are a key player in re-populating your gut with diverse, healthy good bacteria. While probiotic capsules have their place, #fermentedfoods
offer more variety of good bacteria. Diversity is what we want!
Fermenting your own food is best but if you're like me, it's a little intimidating. So I look for brands like Farmhouse Culture and Bubbies for fermented kraut, veggies, and pickles. (I drink kombucha too but beware of those flavors with too much sugar - plus buch isn't right for everyone.)
What's your favorite way to support your gut?
A hiatus always does the soul good. What's that Banksy quote? "If you get tired learn to rest, not quit."
Breaks give clarity. We are inundated with others lives on our social media feeds (why I completely ditched Facebook entirely). It's fun but overconsumption is real. It's the perfect place for comparison and no one is immune.
So, leave for a bit. Remember your own amazing, REAL, imperfect life before instant updates, planned content, witty/punny captions, photo presets, and staged photos.
New content coming this month with bite sized health info and the podcast will release it's first episode! Stay tuned and Happy 2019!🥂
For decades coca cola has been marketed as delicious & refreshing, but after you read coke’s usage abilities, you may not want another cola ever again. Opt for the blue green algae over the coke! **************************************
1. In many states (in the USA) the highway patrol carries two gallons of Coke in the truck to remove blood from the highway after a car accident.
2. You can put a T-bone steak in a bowl of coke and it will be gone in two days.
3. To clean a toilet: Pour a can of Coca-Cola into the toilet bowl and.......Let the "real thing" sit for one hour, then flush clean. The citric acid in Coke removes stains from vitreous china.
4. To remove rust spots from chrome car bumpers: Rub the bumper with a crumpled-up piece of Reynolds Wrap aluminum foil dipped in Coca-Cola.
5. To clean corrosion from car battery terminals: Pour a can of Coca-Cola over the terminals to bubble away the corrosion.
6. To loosen a rusted bolt: Applying a cloth soaked in Coca-Cola to the rusted bolt for several minutes.
7. To bake a moist ham: Empty a can of Coca-Cola into the baking pan, wrap the ham in aluminum foil, and bake. Thirty minutes before the ham is finished, remove the foil, allowing the drippings to mix with the Coke for a sumptuous brown gravy.
8. To remove grease from clothes: Empty a can of coke into a load of greasy clothes, add detergent, and run through a regular cycle. The Coca-Cola will help loosen grease stains.
It will also clean road haze from your windshield.
1. The active ingredient in Coke is phosphoric acid. Its Ph is 2.8. It will dissolve a nail in about 4 days.
2. To carry Coca-Cola syrup (the concentrate) the commercial truck must use the hazardous material place cards reserved for highly corrosive materials.
3. The distributors of coke have been using it to clean the engines of their trucks for over 20 years!

Why do onions grow in rings?
Have you ever noticed that onions are one of a few vegetables out there that have a series of layers? I have been wondering why this is. Especially because onions are sourced from the turnip family (with no layers in sight). As it turns out, each layer is a leaf. The onion grows from the inside-out... pushing the older/outer layers further away from the core. Like a tree trunk or skin, the outermost layer becomes compromised and change in texture and shape while new layers are created to replace what was once there.
As a fun fact, the outermost layer contains the least amount of nutrients (ie- it is the most affected by the elements) and develops a tougher skin which minimizes its cooking value. On the other hand, as we move closer to the core - the fresher the leaf - and the more we are affected by the chemicals that are released when we chop or dice it :). Super awesome right! Haha, so... I guess we peeled the layers to answer this onion conundrum lol.
Hope all is wonderful!

I'm a huge fan of taking social media breaks so off I go until 2019! I'm taking this time to really savor the time with family and let my creativity flow (without excess noise from social media overconsumption). Lots of projects coming in the new year. Hashtag excitement!
I wish you all a Merry Everything!🎄🎅
See you next year!🍾🥂🎉
This biz is hard. Anything online is scary. Building a "following" (kinda hate that term) of people who legit NEED and WANT what you put out takes SO much effort. And connecting with other folks in this niche can be just as difficult because we are all trying to do the same thing. This is the behind-the-scenes truth... The real, REAL.
The follow-to-get-you-to-follow-then-quickly-unfollow so your follower:following ratio is higher is so annoying. The follow loops make me feel icky because it doesn't feel genuine and like I'm trying to skip the hard work to race to the "top." You feel me? Crazy, right?
If you have no clue what I'm talking about, just take the quote and apply it to whatever YOUR dreams are. KEEP GOING! Your work is valid.♥️
Sitting and wallowing in the HARD days won't get ya anywhere, will it? That's just where I am today - in this moment - and thought I'd be transparent.
Success is not linear. Success is not linear. SUCCESS IS NOT LINEAR. This is my reminder to KEEP MOVING.🎬 #takeaction

Baby food choices... It's wild out there!
I prefer just giving real food I make from home but that's not always convenient. I'll take stuff to-go butttttt sardines aren't everyone's favorite smell in public.😂
Sooooo, I love grabbing up @onceuponafarm
from the refrigerated section at Target. It's organic, non-gmo, and COLD PRESSED! Thank the heavens. (And no heavy metals - did you see that baby food report?!)
⭐Cold pressed keeps nutrient content, enzymes, and healthy bacteria intact! Traditional heat pasteurization kills all that stuff and leaves behind a simple sugar slime. This is basically the next best thing to fresh. For real. I've tasted them all and they're GOOD.
Do you sometimes wonder to yourself why you are in a rut? Or feeling kinda shitty? Or is it totally clear what is making your life not what you dreamed it to be?
When you get real with yourself and spend time observing and admitting that yes indeed this is a feeling that has been keeping me down. Then, only then can you start making change.
We are talking about admitting that we aren't perfect, that we aren't always "fine". I mean do we get this?
When someone asks us "how are you?" and we answer "fine" , that many times we are totally masking what is really going on? What if they really cared HOW YOU REALLY ARE!?
I am designing an authenticity challenge - I have done this before and it is an awesome way to check in with ourselves and a great way to acknowledge that change is needed.
Who wants to play? 🎶⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Comment "Yeah, I want to challenge myself!" and I will send you the challenge.
p.s. this park is where I go to get real, and authentic and feel what is really going on in my mind and body! Do you like? .

Once you learn better, there is no going back. Shopping for some gifts this holiday season has me eyeing lots of spa/luxury item labels.
😳 It's a mess out there! Worst offender?
This trade term can include some 3,163 chemicals (with harmful ones like pthalates, aldehydes, benzene derivatives). It's now considered the new "secondhand smoke." Ick.
You CAN have the smell goods without the nasties. You CAN have safer skincare and makeup without the nasties too. The cosmetics industry just isn't regulated as it should be.
BUT CHANGE IS COMING! Did you see Beautycounter is the most searched for beauty brand of 2018??? #toptrending #betterbeauty #saferskincare #beautyonamission
⭐Btw - flash sale going on this weekend!⭐
Sitting down at the computer this morning came a little easier for me this morning, I don't always spring out of bed after a late night out with a friend.
I actually couldn't get to sleep right away because I was thinking how many women out their need the work I do. I am writing out my thoughts right now.
WOMEN - if you are unhappy, hurting, scared in your marriage it is HIGH TIME that you find help, it is time that you quit faking that you are happy, and it is time to heal the pain inside so that you can shine again. 🦄
Because she, you, the women you know yourself to be IS inside of you. Nobody can steal that from you unless you allow it...
And let me tell you - you might not know what that means, you might think "screw you Petra, you don't know what I have been through..." ⚡⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
What I am saying is there is "stuff" there for you to look at. 🧘♀️⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Your soul is saying free me - let me express myself - let me shine and live a beautiful life and feel LOVE!!!
Too many times I hear women going through tough times in their marriage and they want out. It doesn't have to be that way. Mind you the man needs to get to work as well (they may be resisting it - but deep down, they want to be loved too at a real level...not only sexually, they want help, they want to be set free).
IT IS TIME - I CAN NOT be quiet any more - Ladies come to my Nourish Program - it starts in January. We will be working on our self-care and it will be fun, and liberating!!! If you want more message me ;)
I am not gonna stop there - if your man has been looking for some kind of help my husband, G (Gary), has just opened a very similar program only for men. Again contact me for details.
Phew I think I will talk about some of the changes we need to make in IGTV...soon so look for it to get a head start on going inward.
Blessings to you all!!!!

That's him. That's the one who made me a mom and he's going to be NINE this coming Friday. #wintersolsticebaby
He's the biggest reason I started evaluating the products I put on my family's skin. It's been a process of learning and eliminating and swapping for better, safer cleaning products and beauty products but it's an effort I do NOT regret.
Now that I have a daughter, it's even more important to me to keep safer skincare and beauty products in our home. The last thing little growing bodies (or any bodies) need is excess exposure to endocrine and hormone disrupting ingredients in items that shouldn't even have them.👊 #beautyshouldbegoodforyou
🥑Guac is ALWAYS a good idea. Homemade and chunky. My fave part of this photo is the single, big #cilantro
How perfectly put with such few words.
When I first started playing with the idea to talk about holistic health on social media and a blog, I was so scared as to what people were gonna think about the things I had to share because it was unpopular and unconventional.
I started a blog in 2011 but abandoned it as rude comments, fear of people not liking me, and even loss of friendships occurred.
I kick myself a bit now for letting others dictate what I put out in the world but I extend myself some grace and see it as lessons I needed to learn. Constructive criticism is helpful but unfortunately people will hate on you just if they disagree or are envious of what you're doing.
My skin had to thicken before I really got publicly vulnerable. And I had to realize if "friends" turned away from me, it was on them. I was starting to live in alignment with my true self and the wrong-for-you folks will naturally fall away (however painful), just as the right-for-you ones will show up.
And there will always be critics. They say if you don't have any then you probably won't have any success either.🤷♀️ It's not anyone's job to be everything to everyone. In order to avoid criticism, you pretty much have to do/say/be nothing... and well, that's not happening!
People can only meet you as deeply as they have met themselves. And it's OK! Gosh, it took me so long to learn that. So, "let whoever, think whatever!"
Broccoli! Woohoo :D
Often considered as one of the healthiest foods in the world, broccoli is high in SO MANY nutrients, but mainly vitamin K, C, Iron, Potassium and also a healthy dose of soluble fibre. Interestingly, broccoli also contains much more protein than most other vegetables, which is in large part why we feel much more satiated with this food item.
This lovely veggie can be enjoyed raw or cooked in other ways - like steaming, stir-frying etc. Of course, each cooking method affects the nutrition we gain from the veggie itself and it is key to consider the way our food is prepared (not just the ingredients themselves) when wanting to eat a healthy diet. For instance, a recent study revealed that as it turns out... gently steamed broccoli provides us with the most health benefits out of all the cooking methods. As we lightly steam the broccoli, this cooking method activities health-promoting compounds without losing the water-soluble vitamins :D. Steaming it seems like has the best mention rates around!
Hope all is great :). Enjoy! .
TOP OF THE MORNING!! Some are getting the worm while others are getting the donuts... ME? I HAVEN’T EATEN YET😫😫 But, I’m hungry.. so I’m in this kitchen BAYYYBEE!!! This post has absolutely nothing to do with FOOD!! SN: can’t nobody tell me these aren’t the new Beatles! A so don’t!!! #securingthebag #beastmode #watchmework #wealthyminded #healthyminded
There is nothing wrong with posting a photo of your physical hard work (even though *I* rarely do it because it feels attention-seeking to *me*).
Just remember that it's meaningless without doing the work on the INSIDE.
External validation is extremely short lived.
And you still have to live with yourself.
Whether your abs are visible or not (swipe) means nothing in the big scheme of things yet they tend to get the most attention on social media. Everyone loves a good before/after but what you can't see is the mental shift. The internal health. The WHOLE being. The mind, body, and soul. Sometimes those hard bodies are very sick and yet people hashtag "goals." Would you still think it's goals if they have insomnia, anxiety, and hormonal imbalance in order to maintain that low level body fat?
The first photo is with good lighting, angles, flexing, and good posture.
The second photo is me relaxing and slouching a bit. No, I don't love the picture (and I don't have to).
But I *love* the person in both - and that makes all the difference.
Many accounts on IG would have you thinking that any midsection fluff is somehow less than but today I'm here to remind you that it's simply NOT the truth. Not in my world. #mindset
The only way one could possibly be better than the other if is one brings dysfunction - and it can go either way. Overworked core or underworked core? How would you know from a photo?
Visible abs are not superior and frankly, I'm sick of them being glorified. Give me an evolved, open, awake, growing human with or without abs over one with such narrow, superficial focus.👊

I like to drop mad BEETS.🤓
Mmmmmm roasted in coconut oil, sweet like candy.
Beets are nutrient dense and help support the liver. When your liver can detox your body well (it's job), you are better able to balance hormones!
Crazy 'detox' potions and extreme diets aren't necessary unless detoxification organs aren't working the way they are supposed to due to crap food-like choices, toxic chemical and fragrance-laden beauty products, and poor air quality. (Which is most likely all of us at some point in life.)
Even then, you do not have to do extreme "juice cleanses" in order to get your body working well again. Your body is a fighter and always looking to be stable and balanced (homeostasis) - just support it. Beware: most "cleanse teas" are full of herbs with laxative effects that make you think all that 💩 is "releasing extra toxins." Unless you're super constipated - you don't need that stuff but even then, chronic constipation is a symptom of bigger issues (that vary).
💗All you really need to do is replace junk food with nourishing/healing food, switch to safer skincare, improve your indoor air quality, AND WORK ON YOUR HEADSPACE. You will feel/see a difference.💗
Please don't do any type of cleanse without proper guidance. An extreme cleanse may be appropriate for *some* people but don't go it alone. I've known people who have had severe reactions that are not 'detox symptoms' but extreme malnourshiment and dehydration.⚠️
Wellness tip: find a support system! Keeping up your motivation to workout and your resolve to eat healthy during this time of year can be challenging. But the best way to get through it is with a support system! Early last week, a client let me know about a challenge she had joined with some friends - they need to run at least a mile each day (or do some form of physical fitness for at least 20 mins) between Thanksgiving and New Years. I loved the idea and told her about how great I thought it was that she was doing it. She asked me if I wanted to join, and I gladly accepted. I love being part of a group environment of awesome people encouraging one another. We have a little Facebook chat where we post each day about the workouts we’ve done. Besides my client I don’t know anyone else in the group. But I love getting their positive words of encouragement each day and seeing what they are up to. Especially during a challenging season, I’d highly suggest finding or forming a support group.
to this time at @fusepilates
when it took us forever to figure out how to make a plank look cute. You two are the best!
One of these things is not like the other! ⚠️Important!⚠️
Vitamin D3 is a very important fat-soluble nutrient (acts more like a hormone) that many of us tend to not get enough of because of lack of sunlight on bare skin. This time of year is when I consider supplementation because we live in the Northeast and just don't get the natural vit D from sunlight as much as we need. I'm typically not a supplement fan because the body uses nutrients from their natural sources best but sometimes ya gotta do what ya gotta do! (Of course testing your nutrient levels is a good idea before supplementation - especially with fat-soluble nutrients.)
⚠️It is crucial to take vitamin D3 with vitamin K2.⚠️
Vitamin D helps with the absorption of calcium and K2 controls where that calcium ends up. We want calcium where it is supposed to be in the proper levels, like bones, and NOT in other tissues, like arteries and veins. Calcium in our arteries leads to vessel stiffness and cardiovascular disease. Just because vit D is a nutrient, doesn't mean we can take it without caution - as with anything else over the counter!
While the plain D3 drops are ok, it is important to make sure K2 in foods (like egg yolks, cheese - if you can do dairy, dark meat chicken, and grass-fed butter) is being consumed at the same time for appropriate absorption and assimilation.
Obviously, the drops with both makes that much easier to ensure.👍
Isolated nutrients can help with our health but it is important to work with someone knowledgeable and test your levels at least once a year to see what's going on inside! Everyone has different digestion and absorption so it's better to know than guess.
