It’s the new year and many of my clients struggle this time of year. Weight Gain, bloating, fatigue, and cravings just to name a few common issues they experience. These simple tips will surely keep the cravings at bay and weight gain a memory of the past. 1. Eat Protein 2. Drink Water – most times we are just thirsty, rather than hungry 3. Plan your meals 4. Avoid deprivation 5. It’s getting colder which means it’s time for my all favourite yellow lentil soup with a healthy twist. Here’s how I make it: Ingredients: * 3 cups water * 1 cup yellow lentils * 1 medium tomato * 1 carrot * 1 small onion * 4 cloves garlic * 1 cube organic chicken bouillon * 1 cube organic vegetable bouillon * 2 teaspoons ground cumin * Sea salt and pepper to taste * 1/2 teaspoon ground coriander * 1/2teaspoon turmeric * Dash of ginger to taste Directions: * Place 3 cups water, lentils, tomato, carrot, onion, garlic, and chicken bouillon in a pot over medium heat; cook until vegetables and lentils are softened, 20 to 25 minutes. Remove from heat and cool to lukewarm. * Blend vegetable and lentil mixture with an immersion blender until smooth. Stir 1 cup water, cumin, sea salt, pepper, turmeric, ginger and coriander into soup; heat over medium heat until warmed. I explore new healthy ingredients all the time. I tried Oat Milk in my coffee this morning. If you’re avoiding dairy, this is a definite winner that is easy to make at home. You don’t need to depend on your local supermarket to stock it. You need these 4 things: • 1 cup rolled oats • Water - 4 cups water for making the milk , plus extra for soaking. • optional add-ins such as a 2-3 dates, some vanilla extract (1 tsp.) and a pinch of salt • a sieve • a blender Directions:
Add oats to a large bowl or jug and cover with water. Leave to soak for 15 minutes. 
Pour through a sieve discarding the liquid then rinse the oats very well a number of times under running water. This step is really important so don't skip it. 
Put the rinsed oats, optional vanilla, optional salt and optional dates into a blender.
Cover with around 3 cups / 720 mls water then blend until it's as smooth a you can get it. The time it takes will vary depending on your blender. In a Blendtec or a Vitamix it will take around 1 minute. 
Check the thickness. It will likely be quite thick like cream now. Add enough extra water to get it to the thickness that you like and give it a quick pulse to mix. 
If you are using it as a coffee creamer then it's nice left pretty thick. For other things it's better thinner. 
Strain 2 or 3 times through a sieve. You can use a nut milk bag if you have one but it isn't necessary. If you use a nut milk bag straining once will be sufficient. 
Pour into a lidded container and store in the fridge. It will last for 3-4 days in the fridge.
