How many models of coaxial helicopters can you name? We bet that your answer will begin with “Ka-”. For 71 years, the design bureau named after the soviet aircraft designer Nikolay Kamov has been producing the coaxial rotorcrafts. Despite the fact that several US companies (Sikorsky, Phoenix) work on the same type, Kamov`s helicopters are the only ones to repeatedly experience the serial production.
The very first helicopter, Ka-8 in 1947 was similar to flying motorcycle because of the absence of the fuselage. It was able to lift up to only 250 meters but the real breakthrough was based on the 2 inventive three-blade rotors moving in mutually opposite directions. They say with this Ka is able to land even with the tail blasted away.
Ka-8 was the first of 18 coaxial models, produced by the bureau during its history. To know more, share this material with your friends and collegues and stay tuned! #vrt500 #helicopter #history #rotorcraft #kamov
