2 days ago I wanted to hike some 4k’s for today, but I really really hate leaving Drexel behind. I decided to hike this mountain instead with Drexel and between 3 of us we could help him in situations where he needed it. He didn’t need help once. He did so good and I’m so happy and proud of my old man. Oh...and the four of us matching with our headbands, that’s also awesome and hilarious...🏔🐶🐾 ❤️
Keep the warm weather momentum going. Mother & Child and @replaynh are now restocked with Live Free and Take a Hike shirts so you can get a better idea of which size works best for you.
Today we had to do a #trailcrushtuesday . This means though that we have 2 different trails to talk about. Mount Eisenhower on the left and Mount Garfield top right.
My sister’s favorite trail so far has been Mount Eisenhower, she says of the trail that she loved the 360 views from the top and being able to see the other trails that lead to other summits from the top. We had the amazing experience of watching a summer storm move in over the Washington Valley while at the top and managed to hit tree line just before the thunder started, although we did get hailed on while at the top. Another favorite part for her was the “rock scramble” near the top, which was nerve wracking but fun (just not in the rain). It’s definitely a trail (and mountain) we’d love to experience again.
While my favorite so far has been Mount Garfield. I had hiked this mountain with my dad when I was about 7 years old, stopped 0.2 miles from the summit and refused to continue on. This past year I finally finished the trail, and it was WELL worth it. The views from the top were simply breath-taking, and it was a beautiful blue sky day as well. But secretly I loved this hike because it was so easy, as a mostly “fair weather” hiker, this long slow grade hike was meant for me.
#latergram The first time I stayed at Joe Dodge in Pinkham Notch, I strapped on my snowshoes and crossed the road to hike to Lost Pond. Continuing my list of #HikesToDoWhenMyLegIsntBroken , I can head out here on this flat section of the AT as soon as I can put on snowshoes again.
