The Columbus skyline from the trail at Scioto Audubon Metro Park. This park is a great example of nature restoration. This land used to be an unsightly city impound lot. Miles of abandoned cars, dirty and ugly to look at from the freeway above. Now it is a thriving city park with wetlands for birdwatching and a great nature center!

Hike #2 of my 52 Hike Challenge. We are having a heatwave here in Columbus with temps in the 40's. We've been in the teens and lower for a while. Scioto Audubon offers a great cityscape hike in downtown Columbus.
What a beautiful morning at Firestone Metro Park. I ended up meeting and walking the trail with a man named Bill who was carrying around a grocery bag of unsalted peanuts and was feeding the birds. It was crazy how much he knew about the different types of birds and how they were going to react to him. Through conversation, he mentioned his lack of income, but his daily visits to Firestone give him a lot of joy in life. He doesn't have much family around and lives by himself, but he walks the trail every day and makes sure to bring some peanuts for the birds. I went there this morning to get a few more photos for my February Outdoor Gems feature in the Devil Strip magazine, but I left with a lot more appreciation for what our local parks provide to all different types of people in the community. I am really thankful for that interaction this morning.
10k Wed. Hike #mohicantrailsclub . My pleasant satisfaction with the 10 degree temperature during the hike and it was a sunny day, was if you paused and you turned your face towards the Sun, one could feel it’s warmth. Wear layers of clothing before you go out to experiment with my discovery.😁
