Yesterday we were joined by 43 women in Spearfish Canyon, South Dakota… our most attended group hike in the history of . When we began three years ago, I never would have imagined women coming together like this. And nothing makes me happier than seeing it happen in the dead of winter, and in the Midwest.
Our hike yesterday could not have been more perfect. People showed up early as we made our way into the parking lot an hour ahead of our start time. Women came from all over the state of South Dakota, one of them driving all the way from the opposite end of the state, and several other women came from North Dakota, Wyoming and Minnesota. To say that I am surprised, blown away, grateful would be an understatement.
Yesterday I was asked how got started, what’s next for us and what the overall goal is. I can honestly say this is something I don’t ever really think about, because it is YOU the community who drive ... So, whatever or wherever that is we will support you and come with you.
Here is one thing that I will promise all of you right now, and that is more group hikes. Social media is such a small part of what we do here at and it is on the trail where we truly all become Women Who Hike.
From the very bottom of my heart, thank you thank you thank you to all of you who joined us yesterday. A special thanks to for hosting us all week long and to who also joined us on the snowy and slick trails yesterday. South Dakota… we will be back!
