KheerGanga, Himachal Pradesh, India
KheerGanga is a divinely beautiful meadow located in the mesmerizing Parvati valley near Kasol in Himachal Pradesh at a height of 2960 meters above sea level. Set in the lap of the majestic Himalayas, this is said to be the place where Lord Karthikeya, the elder son of Lord Shiva had meditated for 3000 years being enchanted by the natural beauty of the place.
There is a small temple dedicated to Lord Shiva here nearby the KheerGanga natural hot springs. The hot springs are believed by the pilgrims and locals to have natural healing powers. The place assumes religious significance for people from the Hindu and Sikh faiths. The river Ganga flows abundantly in the adjoining forests. The local belief says that the river stream was once a stream of white kheer(a sweet dish) which was transformed by Lord Parashurama into the river seen today due to it's misuse. To date, the water is very much whitish in color with flakes visible.
