Which ceiling is your favorite? 1️⃣ or 2️⃣? . 1️⃣ The Hannover Market Church was built in 1360. Destroyed by bombings during World War II, it was reconstructed in 1946 - 1956 by local architect Dieter Oesterlen. He designed a minimalistic interior by uncovering the church’s brick structure ⛪️ . 2️⃣ The New Town Hall of Hannover was built between 1901 & 1913. This prestigious building is representative of eclecticism: a union of the style of past eras 🏛 . Photos & information via @chollewa 📷 . For more art history ➡️ Follow @historyofartdaily 🖼 . Château de Mercuès, France 🇫🇷 I am so sorry for not posting this morning. I had terrible connectivity issues with my phone:( It’s all back to normal now I hope. Château de Mercuès is famous for it’s wine as well as a wedding venue. This medieval 13th century chateau is now a 4 star hotel. But it still has its historic ambiance with a small chapel and a cellar. This chateau was the summer residence of the Counts and Bishops of Cahors. To add to its grandeur, the chateau is perched atop a hillock overlooking vineyards. The wine produced here is aged in their cellars. This makes the chateau a perfect gateway for history fanatics. Have you lived in a chateau before? ⚜️⚜️⚜️⚜️⚜️⚜️ Photograph: @voyageursfrancais
On #WanderlustWednesday , here's a wonderfully wintry photo of St Leonard's Church which towers over the town of Bridgnorth, #Shropshire . Originally a Norman church, St Leonard's was commandeered as Civil War ammunition store, and was blown up in 1646. Rebuilding started in 1662, and extensive restoration took place in the mid-19th century. The buildings of old Lerwick; all built end on to the waterfront, crammed along the foreshore like teeth. These were built by merchants for trade and date to the 18th century.⠀ .⠀ Halfway through the week and on the home stretch now...⠀ .⠀ I have my first tour of 2019 on Sunday so I’m hoping for good weather 🤞 ⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ #inspiredbyshetland #60north #shetland #OneHourOutside #gowander #exploremore #exploretocreate #explorescotland #brilliantmoments #visitscotland #theslowdowncollective #scotlandisnow #thisisscotland #scotspirit #lifeofadventure #ig_scot #shetlandwithlaurie #myshetlandlife #thewildnesstonic #awakethelight #holdthemoment #stayandwander #folktravel #somewhereinscotland #postcardsfromtheworld #archilover #architecture #historicarchitecture #vernaculararchitecture #architectureporn

Often, working in historic properties can present unique challenges. It’s a privilege to be entrusted with these special spaces. It’s an honor that our clients have faith in our ability to deliver results. We take this very seriously at Sylvia T Designs and treat each project with respect, exceptional care, and attention to detail. Here, there was only one original screen and one original column finished in the 19th century remaining. We are matching these finishes on two newly hand casted screens and columns. The work takes time and meticulous diligence. In the end, the visitor to this centerpiece room won’t be able to tell the difference! . . . . . . #yourspaceasworkofart #artisan #craftsman #craftsmanship #craftsperson #craftswoman #decorativeartist #fauxfinisher #artist #designer #interiordesigner #interiordesign #interiors @limeworks #honoringtraditionandprogress #plaster #limeplaster #plasterfinish #nola #frenchquarter #neworleans #renovation #remodel #historicarchitecture #historicinterior #itsyournola #iheartnola #nolaphotguild

Deborah has this thing about white kitchens...white, off white, whatever. The kitchen in the Beaufort house started out green with black appliances. Not the worst, but not white. And it was a galley design, difficult...not the best plan. It also had two doors, one into the dining room, another into the living room. Why? Who knew? There was a fabulous 18th century corner cupboard in the dining room that did not belong there. The room had not existed when the house was built. The walls had all been moved, the corner cabinet had been moved, doors had been stuck in here and there. It wasn’t awful, it was just all wrong. So, Deborah said, the solution was to close the living room door, move the cupboard back to the study where the floorboards showed its original location to have been, rip the kitchen cabinets out, move the dining room wall over ten inches...then put in all new cabinets, appliances and countertops. Oh and, hand made backsplash tile, there needed to be hand made backsplash tile to work with the Bianca Avion countertops. Gus started fussing at “move the wall 10 inches” ...and he kept on fussing for days, but it all got done in the end. The new kitchen is small but it has everything, including a walk in pantry, tucked into the corner next to the integrated refrigerator. Deborah has a thing about pantries...and Gus loves the integrated refrigerator, almost as much as he loves the gas range. #charlestonstyle #downtowncharleston #antiquechina #antiquedinnerware #kingstreetshopping #vintagechinarentals #charlestoninteriors #charlestonliving #interiordesign #historichouses #historichouse #historicpreservation #beaufortsc #lowcountrystyle #homerenovation #historicarchitecture #antiquehouse #periodhouse #colonialhouse #houserenovation #interiordesigninspo #interiordesigninspiration #oldhousestyle #lowcountrylivin #southerninteriors #midsummercommoncharleston #oldhouselove #ipreview @preview.app
Ever drive by a business or building and wonder "Why haven't I seen that before?" That was the case today when driving downtown Greenville. I passed this building and had to take a pic. The idea of innovation plays so well into a builders mindset. Let's face it, with the right amount of money, choice of materials and tools practically anything can be built. Yet it's not those things that builders have to work through. It's finding the perfect balance of budget and resources to work for the client's wants and the project's limitations. Bottom line, it requires thinking outside the box and an innovative mentality. I may just have to drive by this building every so often to remind myself of that 📷🤯🤯👊 #historicarchitecture #historicbuildings #architecture #innovativedesign #brickbuilding #downtown #urbandesign #innovation #buildinginspiration #designinspiration #worktrip #projectcoordinator
Passing time before arrival, Park City bound through the first week in February for the 2019’ Sundance Film Festival. This is an annual trip for us with a tight schedule of back to back events and screenings so I will not be posting until February but will be sharing in stories. The only building in the gardens of Stowe that is built from ironstone, designed by James Gibbs in 1741. Grade I, The Gothic Temple. Also love the fence . #gothic #temple #gothicarchitecture #historicarchitecture #jamesgibbs #fence #gardens #folly #landscape #englishcountryside #architecturephoto
View of Hagia Sophia from Sultan Ahmet Camii (The Blue Mosque). Hagia Sophia is thought of as one of the supreme achievements in the history of architecture, which is located at the European part of the city in Sultanahmet area, near Topkapi Palace in Istanbul, Turkey. It is an important symbol in Istanbul because it is a meeting point of the world's religion. The Hagia Sophia has long been a tug of war among religious, political and cultural groups. It was a church for 1,000 years before being converted into a mosque in 1453, and now a museum. Since my childhood, I have traveled to a lot of religious temples with my family, several wonderful monasteries during my college days in Northeast India, and finally I could manage to visit some of the great mosques and museums in Turkey. I chose not to post the pictures from the interior of "Hagia Sophia" because it is famous for having been used by different religions of the world. #onenessofgod Lose your soul in God's love, I swear there is no other way. ~ Rumi #hagiasophia #hagiasophiamuseum #middleages #unity #city #istanbul #travelgram #unesco #hagiasophiaistanbul #sultanahmedcamii #thebluemosque #travel #museumphotography #theculturetrip #historicarchitecture #religion #worlderlust #spirituality #rumiquotes #nature #massivedome #architecture #worldheritagesite #byzantineart #thattravelblog #divineworldplaces #traveldeeper #goexplore #wondersofancientworld
Lost in Nola
Love everything about this exquisite Victorian house! It’s so ingenious to paint all disparate exterior elements into unifying antique white. The same hue visually carries through the elaborate wrought iron and the lacquer-finish wall and make it so cohesive and elegant.

This house reminds me of the “pink palace” in #Coraline , one of my favorite movies. I can totally picture Mr Bobinsky training his jumping mice circus here
As a culture, I wonder if we are trapped in a cycle of cynicism, viewing everything as an opportunity for acquisition, aggrandizement and false ego. The old adage about the artist starving in some belfry is an interesting one. Yes, many artists in the creative realm do struggle for survival in a world increasingly defined by mundane possessions, status, social contacts, mobility, and ageism. It’s not always a meritocracy. So much of the visual, architectural, musical, and theatrical landscape is banal and ephemeral. So, it is important to ask ourselves, “How can I rise above that and capture something beautiful and profound? “—Stephen Weir
