So 2 years ago, after some love from the @spotify
playlist hit makers, @anchorandbell
got offered a record deal. We had a Grammy nominated producer and a great manager; we were poised to make dreams come true. ..
But Emily, my partner and the Bell, realized her dreams weren’t the same as mine. “I don’t want to be an artist,” she said, “I don’t want to be responsible for my own voice. I just want to write for other people.” ..
She gave me her blessing to keep going with Anchor + Bell, but needless to say, aside from breaking my heart, her leaving also changed the trajectory of my life drastically. I moved to Nashville in search of a new duo partner, and in many ways spent the last two years having to reimagine what my artist career would/should look like. ..
This week is the first time ever that I’ve played any A+B songs with someone other than Emily, and it’s truly striking how clear it is that no one will ever replace her. But it’s also strangely heartening that life after heartbreak goes on, and can still be beautiful, and that we never actually lose the people who leave us; they are forever apart of who we are becoming. ..
I’m deeply grateful for @m_o_lee
and the beauty she brought into my life, and I know she continues to bring that same beauty into the lives of the people she’s making music with now.
Here’s to the future kids.
