Really good progression for all ages. First feel your hip coil and path. Second keep the coil while you stride. 3rd snap the racket down behind the ball, square it up and hit the back net. #dbatweatherford
Split hand pivot drills are the bomb. Turn and pivot. Bottom hand goes up to cut the ball with the knob, top hand whips the barrel down behind the ball. #dbatweatherford
Feel feel feel. Turn the barrel don’t push it. Snap the barrel don’t pull it. #dbatweatherford
Learning to load. Making it a competition is fun for all ages. Everything before the launch is loading. #dbatweatherford
If you look at how Josh was set pre-pitch. He was sunken down into his quads, not allowing the glutes, hamstrings, and hips to get fired up. By adjusting and feeling the “GO muscles” work from the start, it will lead to a more powerful, more controlled load so we can keep good tempo and good direction.
3 years ago Ethen Corley started with me. Man what a long way he has come both physically and mentally. This week was our last lesson before he and his family move to North Carolina. .
It’s amazing how much you get attached to these young athletes! I can’t wait to see how his story unfolds. I will always continue to help Ethen reach his goals, even from a few states away!
Explain and make the players feel what you’re saying. We can’t fix what we can’t feel. #dbatweatherford
Don’t push the barrel. Turn and whip the barrel through. Hit the back net. Great drill. #dbatweatherford
Stretch until it’s time to go. The front heal is your go button. The biggest issue young hitters face is continuing to load or stretch as they move forward. We started talking about loading forward. Instead of just using “load” as the initial move back. Continuing to load or landing loaded is what we are striving for to create the snap. I stole a drill from @nheadley14
we call it the split grip Go drill. Check out his page to see it. It has become one of my favorite drills. It builds a feel of constraint and how the body should fire during the swing. It’s what a hitter should feel before hitting the go button. To add to it, if you can partner them up or do the drill with them and have them race if you really want see the snap come out. Video 2 is a brother and sister competing against each other.
College softball is using the pivot. That’s quick barrel acceleration. #dbatweatherford
DID YOU KNOW... @kevinalexrusso
was drafted by the @yankees
in ‘06...made the High A All-Star team...and was named “Fan Favorite” with the @trentonthunder
WHAT...A...GUY!!!👏👏 Schedule a lesson with Russo today!
Let’s take a step back in a few ways..
Adding the R3ACT Strap to split squat and lunge variations can offer a way to systematically load these patterns when a heavier DB or KB isn’t appropriate.
Split Squat, Reverse Lunge, and Squat TKEs (terminal knee extension) are an old school tool that seemed to have gone extinct since the arrival of “Generation Glutes”.
They’re valuable. They can definitely help rebuild quads in a safe stance post injury. They may improve functional dorsiflexion (which I think some are calling quad avoidance). They can pre-fatigue quads prior to other lifts if they’re never seem to get sore after squats and lunges ( 🙋🏻♂️)
Challenging valgus/varus is not a new idea either. But more often, you will see a valgus load vector applied, which may not be the complete solution. When you challenge “varus” you will also see the pattern improve, likely to do deep/medial line muscles kicking on (which may be more proximal to the root of the issue).

This guys a stud. Controlled and go. Pivot. He’s getting quicker. #dbatweatherford
Torque, separation, kinetic chain, pivot points, other hitting lingo, and clean mechanics here. #dbatweatherford
Who can agree that this is a really special movement? especially at age 9.
Evin rotates the back hip with so much energy, that his foot comes off the ground as the hip travels. .
PLEASE do not mistake this with just “lifting” the back foot off the ground. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE. Also, don’t mistake just sliding your body forward and bringing your back foot off the ground. That is NOT what this is simulating. 💯
No lefty swings yesterday. Trying to keep getting better to help others get better. Swing to duplicate what you teach.
This is the roster for the Riverside County All Star baseball team for the 2019 San Bernardino vs Riverside County baseball classic. I’ve always told people that actions speak louder than words, well because of the hard work and dedication these two young men have shown they were both selected to play for the Riverside County team. A big congrats goes out to @_serna13 @mc_era3
for having the opportunity to play with Riverside County’s best high school baseball players. (Kyle Serna and Mirel Collazo) #elevateandcelebrate #tightturns #trusttheprocess #hit

[For Trainers] Programming Mindset for Implementing the 3D Strap
Adding the 3D Strap/spiral loading to squats, hinges, and 1 Leg exercises (as most often demo’d on this page) does NOT always go smoothly with clients.
It’s. Not. Easy.
That’s why I get genuinely pumped up when I see an awesome demo and drop a comment.
It’s also why I genuinely feel the frustration along with you. I work daily in a facility of therapists and trainers and I’ve seen, what I call, “The Gap”.
The Gap is the deficit between a trainer’s demonstration/instruction and how the client interprets/performs an exercise.
In this video, I touch on a strategy to “Cold Stone” the 3D Strap into your workouts (fold it in with other stuff to make the work deelishess).
Start with something really simple. No rotation. No sport specific stuff. No technical interference.
Keep. It. Simple.

Hold, hold, hold, and fire!
Sequencing is critical. When you get powerful, you have to keep your bottom half engaged so it can fire first, then the hand and barrel will come through. If you load and lose your bottom during the motion, your hands will fire first and lead to a lot of pull side ground balls and weak contact. .
Sequence, sequence, sequence..
This is wanting to get better. Learned a pivot/windmill drill today and then goes home and practices more. #dbatweatherford
👉🏻 SWIPE the second video is better 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
Exaggeration can work wonders for feel. Slap your elbow to your forehead is what worked today. We will see what cue works tomorrow. #dbatweatherford
Day 3 of lefty learning. I’m think about posture more than anything right now. Swing still feels awkward. There’s more tension in my body than I’m using. #dbatweatherford
“90 percent of the game is half mental.”
