I don’t really set New Years Resolutions but I like to re-evaluate life and goals periodically, especially in the winter when I tend to hibernate a bit and become better acquainted with what I want to achieve and where life is going. 2019 is going to be about ‘LESS’, less stuff, less busy, less work (or more focused work and less unnecessary tasks) less people (more focus on the quality of those who I surround myself with), less stress and lots more. I recently rewatched The Minimalist’s @theminimalists
movie on Netflix and was re-inspired about having less material items. Also @mariekondo
‘s new @Netflix
series is great for those wanting to declutter and re-organize their living space. I’ve taken much inspiration from both. Also there will be less IG posts but more focused ones, less blog posts but again ones that really inspire me. Also, I’m still on the mission of less plastic in my home. I hope you all don’t mind a little less of me in 2019 ✨☺️ (but obviously lots more @demure_amsterdam
hats ) .

It's Espresso and Vine for the intersection of your bed and nightstand. Make your bedroom classy.
I love it when a project comes together. Since Christmas I've been slowly organizing and purging. I started before watching Tidying Up with Marie Kondo started on Netflix but it has definitely inspired me to keep going!
I've been wanting to get a shelf for the boys bathroom for a while but hadn't found what I was looking for anywhere. Randomly went to @homesensecanada
on Friday night and found it! Even better, we had it on the wall less than 24 hours after I bought it #newrecord
After getting the shelf up and counter cleared off, I kept going and cleared out the drawers and cupboards and reorganized them too. One more room finished!
I have #ADHD
, and this can make organization difficult. Putting away laundry is one task I have trouble with. This is because it involves so many steps - I have to sort it, then fold it, then walk to one of two different dressers, open drawers until I find space, then go to the closet to hang things. Then things are hidden away to the point where I forget I have them. This may be manageable for a neurotypical person, but it's overwhelming for me. Add in #fibromyalgia
, and it can be near impossible to do.
I decided to try simplifying this by creating a wardrobe station. Everything will be in my closet - foldables will be on shelves where I can see them, socks and underwear will be in baskets where I can just dump them in and grab them when needed, and everything is near my hangables. By having everything in one space, I'll save physical and mental energy.

Made some custom toy storage for my folks for a gift, doubled the cuts so we could put one in our house for the twins. Inspired by one seen online- basically expanded for the space and dimensions of the 4 bins. I love the big storage bin below on casters- add some loose toys in the bins and stuffed animals and books on the shelf- a great toy system! I’ll post a few more of the details in next posts-
We loved organizing this beautiful pantry earlier this month. Our client loves gray and it worked really well here - back stock goes in the baskets on top.

You might be thinking that your closet has no hope!🤔. You might feel your stuff can never be organized or that maybe you don't have the right closet. .
You might be wonder that maybe, just maybe if you had a bigger, better or prettier closet, then your things might look more organizing.
But, it's really how you go about it that matters. Little tweaks and a little change of methods can go a long way and make a huge difference in your organization.
Look at the before and after of this closet by @creative.organizer
and see the huge difference due to a change in folding method. .
Yours can look as beautiful as this too, no matter how your closet looks like.😉 Nothing has to be too complicated.
Okay so you might have seen from my story this morning, todays mission was to sort out under the stairs cupboard. It was atrocious😩 but with the massive help of Mr H! We have done it 💪🏼 so much better!

one of my weekend projects was husband approved. I couldn’t believe my ears when I heard him say how much better he liked how the fridge looked. Functionality is important, y’all. Especially when those smaller items get “lost” in the background. Make life easier for yourself, (and your family) to find items with quick access. More details on the blog! #homeorganization
So I finally got on the bandwagon and tuned into Marie Kondo’s new show. I have to say she is so cute and sweet! I wonder if my clients think that of me? 🤔Mmmmm…. Probably not 😄
Too much stuff and chaos impacts many aspects of your life (time, money, health, relationships and energy) and after watching the first 2 episodes, the theme I picked up on was the impact of the home environment and their relationships. This is real. I see this all the time when I work with a client in their home. I have even experienced it in my own home and can see how too much stuff and lack of systems can slowly erode a relationship. The relationship with your partner, kids and self. 😏
For years, my mindset to keep things in order was a constant point of contention between my me and husband. He isn’t wired like me, so toys all over the floor and dishes in the sink simply don’t bother him. It drove me nuts that he could just sit there, scrolling through his phone while I ran around trying not to pull my hair out. In my mind, picking up all the toys, clothes, and kids’ crafts from all over the house was a never-ending task. I usually handled the situation by making some unkind comment to my husband, trying to make him aware that I spent my entire morning picking up with no end in sight. Not a strategy I would recommend! 🤦🏼♀️ We often don’t even realize how our space is impacting us and those around us. .
Just like the homes I work in, I was excited to see how happy these couples on the show looked after they let go of all the stuff that was just getting in the way of their relationship. .
I am excited to catch up on a few more episodes and see what else they uncover.
Who else is watching and what are you taking away from it?
I've been cleaning closets here. I've heard that the Konmari Method suggests hanging close so they rise to the right, which is completely backwards to how I have mine hanging. I'll see what it changes!
I'm also putting my hangers on backwards, and as I wear a garment I will flip the hanger around. In 6 months I'm going to assess which hangers are still backwards and if I really need to keep those items.
Sometimes it's a seasonal item, and having the extreme weather changes that we do here means I need to have clothes for all degrees of weather.
Have you tried the backwards hanger method? What did you discover?

It’s looking like a stay home Sunday or throw some sweats on and go bargain hunting kind of a day. If your choice is staying home - then might I suggest some Netflix bingeing... OZARK is a good one. If hitting the local mall, check out the clearance section first for some great finds. Usually all the big name craft stores like Michaels, and your local Target or Walmart, will have a clearance section filled with reduced treasures. Yay! Whoo hoo!... -because nothing gets me more excited then finding drastically reduced storage solutions, craft items and other odds and ends marked down that I normally wouldn’t purchase. 🤑 (Yeah, ok....maybe other things get me more excited, but this is definitely top 10 🤗)
Just check out these awesome baskets Emily @le.cultivateur
found at her local Walmart. A perfect example of style, function and budget friendly. Use them for corralling kids art supplies, pantry staples and so much more. Check out Emilys blog for some great content and other creative ideas.
